Charantimath, Chairman B.V.V. Sangha, Honarary Secretary Shri Mahesh Athani, Governing Council Chairman Shri Siddanna S. Shettar and Principal Dr. Srinivas S. Vanaki also graced the occasion. The slam-book commemorating the graduate memories of alma-meta was also released. FROM THE EDITORS DESK No any other moment can be as imperative as Graduation ceremony in anybody s life.the outgoing batch wouldn t have asked for more than Dr. M. D. Dixit well known cardiothoracic surgeon s presence and inspirational words. The new comers 2014 batch were given a warm and gracious welcome during the orientation day programme. 2 ORIENTATION DAY RANK HOLDERS : The new comers of batch were given a grand welcome during orientation day. President of the function Shri Siddanna Shettar, Chairman, Governing Council addressed the new comers and parent, where in highlighted the importance of professional course and role of parenting. Principal Dr. S.S Vanaki briefed about the syllabi and institution. Dr. Raviraj Desai presented vote of thanks. (Periodontics) II Rank PEDODONTICS AND PREVENTIVE DENTISTRY CDE programme and hands on course was conducted in Dept. of Pediatric and Preventive Dentistry on Forming with Thermoforming on 21st and 22 of July, The function was inaugurated by Dr. Nagalaxmi Choudhary, Member, DCI. The chief guest lauded the struggle and dedication of Management and faculty in achieving the landmark of institution. Shri Siddanna Shettar, Chairman, Governing Council presiding the function pledged to continue the momentum of progress. The guest speakers Dr. Ravindra Puppala and Dr. Balaji Ketheneni made every delegate curious and enthusiastic in taking vital information. Dr. S.S Vanaki, Principal, Dr. Shivaprakash, Professor and Head and Dr. Hina Noorani, Professor also graced the occasion. 2

3 DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC HEALTH DENTISTRY National Tooth Brushing Day was observed in collaboration with Indian Association of Public Health Dentistry and Colgate Bright Smiles Bright Future on November 7th 2014 at Bevinmatti village. Tooth brushes and tooth pastes were distributed to Anganwadi and primary school children. Oral Cancer Awareness and Screening was conducted as a part of this event. World No AIDS Day was observed on 1st Dec An awareness rally was participated by students and staff members with much aimed action reaching the streets with placards, banners in their hands and distributing awareness materials. Free dental checkup and treatment camps from the NSS unit & Department of Public Health Dentistry were conducted at Ilkal, Ramdurg, Herekodagli, Kulgod,Bilgi, Badami, Bevinmatti, Bagalkot. Dr. Srinidhi P.B attended a workshop on Research Methodology & Research Statistics held in Bapuji Dental College & Hospital, Davangere from 11th - 13thSep An article titled Effect of two different commercially available tea products on salivary ph: A randomized double blinded concurrent parallel study authored by Dr. Srinidhi P.B was published in Dent Med Res 2014;2: ORAL AND MAXILLOFACIAL SURGERY Dr. B.C. Sikkerimath, Professor and Head, Dr. Santosh Gudi, Professor, Dr. Satyajit Dandagi, Professor and Dr. Girish V. Chour, Reader along with postgraduate students attended the 39th AOMSI conference held at Goa on 14th to 16th November Postgraduate students Dr. Vishwanath, Dr. Shushma, Dr. Snehalata Narvekar, Dr. Prannoy and Dr. Gangadhar presented posters in the same conference. 4 ORAL PATHOLOGY Postgraduate students Dr. Anuraag Sharma, Dr. Sankalp Maharishi, and Dr. Pooja Naik attended slide seminar on Salivary Gland Tumors at Belgaum on 7th August, Workshop on ELISA was attended by postgraduate students Dr. Shruthi and Dr. Gayatri, at M.R. Ambedkar Dental College, Bangalore on 11th August Seminar and Workshop on Immunohistochemisty was held at Kalinga Institute of Dental Sciences, Bhubaneshwar, Odisha during 22nd to 23rd August. Dr. R. S. Puranik Professor & Head delivered a guest lecture on Immunohistochemistry. Postgraduate students also attended the workshop. Dr. Pramod I, attended the XII National conference of Forensic Odontology, Dehradun on 20th and 21st September Postgraduate students Dr. Shruthi and Dr. Harshada presented a scientific poster on Salivary gland diseases associated with HIV in the 7th World Workshop on Oral Health and Disease in AIDS held during 6th to 9th November 2014 in Hyderabad. During which they had opportunity to interact with stalwarts like Dr. Neville and Dr. Greenspan. Dr. S. S. Vanaki, Prinicpal, delivered a guest lecture on Odontogenic Tumors and Dr. R. S. Puranik, Professor and Head, delivered a guest lecture on Mucocutaneous Lesions in CDE programme Patho- Vista held during 29th to 31st December 2014 at M.R. Ambedkar Dental College, Bangalore. Post graduate students. Dr. Anuraag Sharma, Dr. Sankalp Maharishi, and Dr. Pooja Naik also attended the Programme. Final year postgraduate student Dr. Anurag Sharma won the session s 1st prize for his paper presentation The profile of Red cell distribution width and some hematological parameters in OSMF patients at the 23rd National IAOMP conference held at Bangalore during 28th to 30th November2014. Faculty and post graduate students attended the confernce. Dr. Pramod I, senior lecturer and post graduate students Dr. Pankaj, Dr. Supriya Bharti, attended 6 day Apprenticeship in Forensic Odontology during 15th - 20th December An article IHC assessment of PCNA protein expression in plaque, reticular, and erosive types of oral lichen planus co-authored by Dr Pramod I, senior lecturer, was published in Annals of Medicine in August An article Computer assisted Histomorphologic comparison and the expression of AgNORs in the central and periheral giant cell lesions of the oral cavity and giant cell tumor of the bone Post graduate students with Dr. Neville Post graduate students with Dr. Greenspan 4

Puranik and Dr. S S Vanaki, co-authored an article titled A comparative study of oral candidal species carriage in patients with type1 and type2 diabetes mellitus published in Journal of Oral and Maxillofacial Pathology September 2014; 18: Dr. Pramod I, senior lecturer co-authored an article Analysis of lipid per oxidation status in different grades of OSCC was published in International Journal of Dental and Health Sciences in ORAL MEDICINE AND RADIOLOGY Post graduate students attended National P.G. Convention IAOMR at Dayananada Sagar College of Dental Sciences on 25th, 26th, 27th July Dr. Gunjan secured best paper presentation on case report Parosteal Osteosarcoma, Dr. Felicita and Dr. Gunjan secured II prize in National quiz competition held in the same convention. Post graduate students participated in Hands on workshop on ELISA held on 11th august 2014 at M. R. Ambedkar Dental College and Hospital, Bangalore. Dr. Gunjan, Dr. Felicita. Dr. Raghunath and Dr. Satya prakash attended Roentgen week at KLE Institute of Dental Sciences, Belgaum on 5th- 8th November Post graduate students attended IAOMR National Conference on 21st, 22nd, 23rd November 2014 at Yenepoya Dental College, Mangalore by Dr. Gunjan, Dr. Felicita. A CDE porgramme was attended by the PG Students at Vasantdada patil Dental College and Hospital, Sangli on 10th October Dr. Foram H. Trevedi attended The 7th World Workshop on Oral Health and Disease in AIDS on 6th to 9th November in HICC, Novotel, Hyderabad, Dr. Surekha R. Puranik was invited as guest speaker where, she presented lecture titled Case History Taking-An Art Dr. Surekha R. Puranik attended Panel discussion and interactive session on Differential diagnostic approach to Oral lesions. Patho- Quest held on 30th and 31st December 2014 at M R Ambedkar Dental College and Hospital, Bangalore. Dr. Shobha B. 6 CONSERVATIVE DENTISTRY AND ENDODONTICS Dr. Vijay Shiraguppi and Dr. Prahlad A Saraf attended scientific sessions held at Goa in October 2014, as a part of Silver jubilee celebration of Indian Endodontic Society. Dr. Anand Patil attended ROOTS Summit 2014, an International Endodontic Conference held from Nov 7-9, 2014 at Mahabalipuram, Chennai and presented a scientific poster on Controversial Clinical Endodontics. Dr. K.H. Kidiyoor, the Head of the Department, Dr. Jayaprakash Patil, Dr. Shrishail Totad along with the postgraduate students attended 22nd IACDE and 22nd IES National Conference, 4th -7th December 2014 held at Jaipur. Dr. Sneha S Vanaki and Dr. Anika Bhandari presented papers. Dr. T.N.Patil, Dr. Raghavendra.P, Dr. Amit bolival, Dr. Apoorva Kamal and Dr. R.D. Geeta presented posters. Dr. Jayaprakash Patil authored article Comparison of marginal adaptation of mineral trioxide aggregate, glass ionomer cement and intermediate restorative material as root end filling materials, using scanning electron microscope: An in vitro study published in Journal of Conservative Dentistry 2014, volume 17, issue 6. He also authored article Surgical management of mandibular central incisors with dumbbell shaped periapical lesion: a case report, was published in Case Reports in dentistry July Dr. Vijay Shiraguppi authored article To evaluate and compare effect of calcium hydroxide with different vehicles on the mineral content of root dentin an EDAX analysis. was published in World Journal of Dentistry, 2014 volume 5, Issue 3 PERIODONTICS Department of Periodontics observed Oral Hygiene Day on 1st August Staff and students raised the awareness of importance of oral health and its management among the patients. Free scaling was rendered to all the patients and distributed necessary dental aids on this occasion. Dr. Roma Kewlani, Dr. Wasim Kazi, Dr. Ankita Kotecha, Dr. Jerin Mery & Dr. A. Tejaswini attended a Colloquium series titled Perio-Systemic Interlink conducted by Indian Society of Periodontics, on 5th September at GDC, Bangalore. Dr. Lavanya Naik and Dr. Madhur Manak attended FDI conference held in Delhi on 11th-14th September. Dr. Lavanya presented poster and Dr. Madhur presented paper. Dr. Roma Kewlani, Dr. Wasim Kazi & Dr. Ankita Kotecha attended 39th ISP National PG conference in Jaipur on 10th-12th October. Dr. Roma, Dr. Wasim and Dr. Ankita presented posters An article titled Toll-like receptor 9 gene polymorphism in Chronic and Aggressive periodontitis patients was published in Journal of Indian Society of Periodontology 2014 co-authored by Dr. Shivaraj Warad & Dr. Nagaraj Kalburgi. Determining the effect of Gutkha on serum levels of vitamin B12 & folic acid as compared to smoking among Chronic periodontitis subjects: A cross sectional study was published in Journal of Clinical & Diagnostic Research 2014 authored by Dr. Shivaraj Warad, Dr. Nagaraj kalburgi, Dr. Madhur Manak, Dr. Arati Koregol, Dr. Jyoti Pattanshetti.
