4 Page 4 discussion sessions incorporate the use of live, interactive audio & video connections originating at the Lakewood Campus at Pierce College Fort Steilacoom in academic quarters when there are students at the Port Angeles Campus at Peninsula College. Collaborative Learning Instruction occurs by collaborative learning through lectures, MSPower- Point presentations, group discussions, individual assignments, selfevaluation, self-study quizzes, and written examinations. Student Conduct Policy Communication Please refer to the Student Rights and Responsibilities/Code of Conduct, located in the Pierce College Catalog and Peninsula College Catalog (Port Angeles students), as well as the Pierce College Department of Dental Hygiene Program Policy for the general guidelines of conduct within and related to this course. Official communication from the instructor to students will be accomplished through announcements posted on Angel, messages sent through Angel, messages sent directly to students Pierce College address, or correspondence delivered to students mail folders. To facilitate this, students should enter their Pierce College address into their Angel profile and then elect to auto-forward those messages to their personal address if they so choose. Students are expected to check Angel, their student mail folder, and their Pierce College account daily. Course Requirements & Evaluation Course Requirements Lecture/Discussion Sessions Students will be evaluated on Application of Knowledge, Time Management, Policies & Procedures, and Communication/Self- Evaluation/Professionalism. Students are expected to complete the pre-reading assignments listed in the Course Schedule and/or posted on Angel prior to each lecture/discussion session. Student outcomes and an outline for each lecture/discussion session will also be posted on Angel prior to the session and students may elect to download/print and bring these documents to the session. Since the course instructor s MSPowerPoint presentations are primarily utilized to facilitate the session and not to transmit content, these presentations will not be posted on Angel. Students should be prepared to take their own lecture/discussion notes and not rely on classmates or the instructor for this integral part of the learning process. Lab Sessions Students will be evaluated on the Application of Knowledge, Time Management, Policies & Procedures, and Communication/Self- Evaluation/Professionalism. Students are expected to complete the pre-reading assignments listed in the Course Schedule and/or posted on Angel prior to each lab session. Student outcomes, activity instructions, and forms for each lab session will be posted on Angel. Students are expected to wear the appropriate attire and

Manikin Radiographs Students will be evaluated on the acquisition, evaluation, technique, interpretation, recording, and storage of digital radiographs of a teaching manikin. Student outcomes and forms will be posted on Angel. Client Radiographs Students will be evaluated on exposure, processing, evaluation, technique, interpretation, recording, and storage of a panoramic radiograph and full-mouth survey of a human subject (client). Clients must meet the Guidelines for Prescribing Dental Radiographs published by the U.S. Department of Health and Human services and be approved by the lab instructor. Student outcomes and forms will be posted on Angel. These radiographs, proofs of payment, and all required forms must be submitted with the client chart to the course instructor within one week of the client appointment. Client Photographs Students will be evaluated on acquisition, evaluation, technique, interpretation, recording, and storage of a digital photographic survey of a human subject (client). Specific criteria, student outcomes and forms will be posted on Angel. These photographs, and all required forms must be submitted with the client chart to the course instructor within one week of the client appointment. Table Clinic Students will be evaluated on their preparation and presentation of a 2-student team table clinic that enhances and assesses the students knowledge and understanding of selected dental imaging topics, research competency, writing skills, nonverbal and oral presentation communication skills, and team dynamics. In the event of a class size of uneven number, one team will consist of 3 students. Student outcomes, instructions, and forms for the table clinic will be posted on Angel. Mid-Term Examination Students will be evaluated on their knowledge and understanding of material covered in Weeks 1-4 during a 60-minute examination comprised of questions utilizing a variety of formats and delivered Angel in a proctored classroom or computer lab. To prepare for this examination, refer to the student outcomes posted on Angel for Weeks 1-4. Final Examination Students will be evaluated on their knowledge and understanding of material covered in Weeks 1-10 during a 120-minute examination comprised of questions utilizing a variety of formats and delivered Angel in a proctored classroom or computer lab. To prepare for

At the discretion of the course instructor, examinations may be rescored on an adjusted curve providing that the new highest score is not be below 92% of the original total possible points. At the discretion of the course instructor, course work with earned scores below 75% may require retake, resubmission, or supplementation and/or position the student for academic review. Disclaimer Security & Safety Access & Disability At times, changes and/or additions to the course schedule, pre-reading, assignments, activities, grading, assessments and examinations may be necessary in order to facilitate student learning. If this occurs, those changes and/or additions will be announced via posted on Angel and/or through messages to the student s assigned Pierce College address. With the exception of emergency situations, students will be provided with sufficient notice for any changes that require adjustments to the course schedule. Call 911 (or if using Pierce College campus telephones) then Campus Security & Safety in response to an imminent threat to persons or property. In the event of an evacuation, be prepared to be outside at least one hour and stay a minimum of 200 feet from any building or structure. So long as it is safe to do so, students are expected to stay on campus and return to class after evacuations that last less than 15 minutes. Do not attempt to re-enter the building until instructed by an Evacuation Director (identified by orange vests) or by three horn blasts or bell rings.
