1 Student Recreation Center Policies & Procedures Updated 3/2/2016 PATRONS RIGHTS & RESPONSIBILITIES As a valued member of the Student Recreation Center (SRC), guests have the right to quality facilities that meet the diverse recreational sports needs and interests of its members. As a valued member of the university community, guests have the responsibility to: Read, understand, and abide by all policies and regulations of the SRC. Respond to and cooperate with the SRC staff members. Treat other guests and the SRC staff with respect and consideration. Take responsibility for personal and community security. Recognize that everyone uses recreation facilities and their furnishings and abuses of those areas violate the rights of others. Please respect our building and do not spit on the floors, walls or in the water fountains. Make sure your physician is aware of any proposed fitness regimen before embarking on any exercise program. Discuss any health problems with your physician before beginning an exercise regimen. All members and guests are expected to comply with the rules and regulations of the SRC. Any individual or organization not fully complying with the facility s policies and guidelines or cooperating with the SRC staff may be asked to vacate the premises and may face further disciplinary action. GENERAL MEMBERSHIP Membership is nontransferable nonrefundable. Membership is a privilege which may be modified or revoked for cause. Memberships can be purchased at the Membership Service Counter in the SRC. Membership fees are not prorated. Membership Types See Membership Fees Schedule Method of Payment: Payment may be made by cash, check, Visa or MasterCard, and by payroll deduction for current ISU Faculty and Staff. Membership Status Members not current in the payment of their monthly fees will be denied access to the facilities. Sponsored Guest Passes Members are allowed to sponsor up to two Sponsored Guests per day. The fee will be $8/day. Youth Guests Youth dependent guests, under 18 years of age, may be sponsored by their parent/legal guardian during specified youth/family hours at $8/day with no limit per day. (See chart) 1

2 Spectators All individuals who enter the SRC whether as a participant or as a spectator must be a current member or purchase a guest pass in order to pass through the Welcome Desk into the activity area. All others are welcome to wait and/or watch from the lobby area. The exception to this policy: parents who are watching his/her child participate in a rec sports program Visitor or Tour Visitors seeking to tour the SRC must be accompanied by an SRC staff member, Office of Admissions staff member, or other personnel approved by the department. ISU Sycamore Identification Card and Entry Procedures All members must acquire an ISU Sycamore Card Members must present their ISU Sycamore Card or guest pass receipt to the Staff Member at the Welcome Desk to gain entry. The Welcome Desk closes 15 minutes prior to the close of the building. No patrons will be permitted to enter after that time. The expense to acquire or replace a lost or damaged ISU Sycamore Card is the responsibility of the member and can be purchased at Public Safety during normal business hours. ISU Sycamore Cards not belonging to the actual bearer of the card will be confiscated. The bearer as well the owner of the card may face disciplinary action and a possible fine or other sanctions. Unauthorized Entry Attempt: Any individual who is found in the building without proof of appropriate access or who is stopped for attempting to gain illegal access will be removed from the facility and may be referred to the Office of Student Judicial Programs or involve other action including involving the Public Safety Department. 2

Exception to the Minor Policy The exception to the minor policy is only permissible when a participant is engaged in a coordinated activity approved by SRC professional staff. Any other special event program including and not limited to: pool parties, post prom events will also be included under the exception to the Minor Policy. The number of chaperones or guardians required to be present at special event programs will be determined by the staff and at the time of the reservation. 3

4 MEMBER CONDUCT Membership Suspension The SRC staff reserve the right to suspend a member s privileges if a member is unwilling to act in a manner consistent with appropriate public behavior, disrespects other members and/or the SRC staff, uses improper language and/or dress in the fitness setting. Unruly Participant/Disorderly Conduct This shall include, but not be limited to; verbal abuse of any SRC employee, verbal altercation with another guest, disruption of operation within the facility, and use of obscene, vulgar or offensive language, and any physical acts or intimidation toward any guest deemed unsafe or detrimental to the long term health of the SRC and/or the equipment within. Once these incidents have been documented, professional staff will contact the participant to arrange a meeting. Facility access rights will be removed until the meeting has been completed. The penalty will vary based on the severity, intent and scope of the incident. Penalties may include, but will not be limited to; suspension from the SRC and referral to the Office of Student Judicial Programs and/or termination of membership. Assumption of Risk Individuals assume a risk of injury or even death while voluntarily electing to participate in physical activity. All participants are strongly encouraged to have a health evaluation by their physician. Risk Statement Participants use the facilities at their own risk. Neither the SRC, Indiana State University, nor the agents thereof, assume responsibility for injury or damage to personal property resulting from participation in recreational activity or an intramural contest. THE STUDENT RECREATION CENTER IS NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR ANY PERSONAL PROPERTY THAT IS LOST OR STOLEN. POLICIES The following policies are the guiding tenants of the SRC and are established for the following purposes: To create the highest standard of safety and care for all patrons To promote community and outline the expectations of how members shall conduct themselves when using the SRC General Building Dress Code Patrons must have on clean shoes, shorts/pants, and a t-shirt to enter the building. Patrons are strongly encouraged to carry in their court shoes. See specific activity space sections for each area s requirements for dress Food, Beverage, Tobacco, Gum Food and beverages may be consumed only in the Juice Bar area located on the first floor concourse ONLY. No food items may be taken beyond the Welcome Desk. Water in a plastic bottle with a lid is permitted throughout the facility. Possession and/or consumption of alcoholic beverages/illegal substances are prohibited. Consumption of/or the appearance/smell of intoxication will be cause for immediate removal from the facility. Tobacco use in any form is prohibited in the facility. 4

5 Gum is prohibited in the facility Food purchased from outside vendors is not permitted in the SRC. Bikes/Pets/Wheeled Shoes/Sleds Bicycles, skateboards, wheeled shoes (i.e. Healy s/inline skates) or sleds are not permitted inside the facility. For your convenience, bicycle racks are available outside the facility, and skates should be stored in lockers or storage cubicles. Only working companion animals with proper ID are permitted in the building. SIGNS & FLYERS Due to limited space for postings, only Rec Sports related announcements will be posted. SOLICITING Soliciting is not permitted inside the SRC. Organizations must schedule and pay for space by calling the reservation coordinator to conduct fund raising or promotional activities. Membership privileges may be revoked if a member assists individuals trying to gain illegal entry into the facility. ACTIVITY SPACES FITNESS CENTER Please report malfunctioning equipment to the staff member on duty immediately! Members are encouraged to maintain the highest standard of care in terms of personal hygiene, specifically in wearing clean exercise clothes and the use of deodorant while working out. Management reserves the right to confront members exhibiting unsatisfactory hygiene conditions. Appropriate exercise apparel and shoes are required at all times! No tank tops or cut-off t-shirts are to be worn in the Fitness Center/Track Satellite cardio area. Women must wear a t-shirt over a sports bra. Athletic Footwear is required (Boots, Flip-Flops, Crocs, and Open Ended Shoes are not permitted). Please wipe perspiration off consoles, hand rails of all cardio equipment and upholstery of machines after working out using X-Swipes or cleaner and towels provided within the facilities. If unsure as to how to use a piece of equipment, consult with the staff member on duty. The use of equipment is on a first come first serve basis. Please follow all safety instructions posted on equipment. Maximum use for Cardiovascular equipment is 30 minutes per session during peak times of use (3:00pm 7:00pm Monday through Friday). Patrons may use the Fitness Floor after completing the Resistance Training for Teens program. Patrons must use extreme caution when lifting weights to avoid any potential injury to themselves or others. Top loading additional weights onto weight stack machines is unsafe and prohibited. 5

6 Due to facility space limitations and safety concerns, the following free weight lifts are not permitted: snatch, jerk and power clean lifts. Patrons are required to re-rack all weights after use. Patrons are required to return equipment to its proper location/starting position after use. Collars are required on all free bar lifts. Slamming or dropping of weights is prohibited. Improper use of equipment is not permitted. This includes but is not limited to standing on equipment, standing on weights, stacking weights under equipment, top loading equipment and stepping on weights. Equipment should remain in the weight room. Only approved equipment from SRWC staff may be moved. Follow appropriate safety and etiquette practices, demonstrating courtesy toward others in the room at all times. Please keep personal items (backpacks, book bags, and clothing) in a locker or in storage areas ( cubbies ) found throughout the facility. Patrons are responsible for all valuable and personal items. Personal training services are available at the SRC. Only the SRC staff is permitted to provide personal training services in this facility. Non-SRC personal trainers are prohibited and will be evicted from the facilities. The Circuit rotates clockwise only. For the Circuit, follow the voice prompt to begin and end each station. Circuit trainers have priority at all times (Non-Circuit Training is permitted as long as it does not interfere with Circuit Trainers). Cardio equipment is available to patrons on a first come first serve basis. Due to the high risk of injury it is recommended that you use a spotter when training with maximum weights. If you do not have a training partner, ask the staff member on duty to spot you. NO WEIGHT LIFTING CHALK IS TO BE USED IN THE FACILITIES. Olympic collars and clamps should be used to ensure plates do not slide off the bar. Do not rest Olympic plates along walls and avoid dropping dumbbells to the floor. A member who receives two warnings will have his/her membership revoked at the third warning. The SRC does not condone the use of anabolic steroids. Patron(s) identified using, selling, or purchasing anabolic steroids on the premises will be subject to membership termination. Please respect others when using the facilities, and avoid using obscene language and gestures that may offend others. Allow others to use the equipment between sets. Grunting while working out does not accommodate correct breathing and can be deemed as annoying and 6

7 disruptive. Wellness Suite The Wellness Suite is located next to the Fitness Center at the top of the main stairs. It offers a wealth of information and services related to wellness, including: nutrition counseling, wellness education, and health screenings. For more information about any of the services offered at the Wellness Suite, please call THREE COURT GYM Rec Sports scheduled programs have priority over all facilities within the SRC. Courts may be used for Volleyball, Basketball, and Badminton. SRC facilities are typically not available for reservations during normal business hours. The HHS Building may satisfy reservation requests more effectively. Please call for details and further information. Inappropriate vulgar language and behavior is not permitted. Patrons may be asked to leave the facility if their behavior is deemed threatening or inappropriate Clean non-marking athletic shoes should only be worn along with athletic pants/shorts and shirts. See court challenge rules posted in the facility for informal basketball play. Please Note: Patrons not following Court Procedures may be asked to leave the facility. All clothing, shoes, or personal items found on the floor will be confiscated and taken to the Lost and Found located at the Equipment Distribution Counter. Patrons are to place all clothing, shoes, or other personal items in the cubbies or lockers. MAC COURT Informal/drop-in floor hockey & lacrosse is not permitted Reserving the Mac Court during the week is not permitted. Use of the Mac court for soccer operates on a "challenge court (see posted rules). Weekend reservations for the Mac Court are available on a limited basis. Only "approved" indoor soccer balls are to be used to prevent damage to the dasher boards/walls. Balls are available for check out at the Equipment Counter. Clean non-marking athletic shoes should only are to be worn in this venue along with athletic pants/shorts and t- shirts (no cut offs). POOLS (Lap & Leisure & Spa) 7

8 Lap & Leisure Pools Rec Sports scheduled programs have priority over all facilities within the SRC. Showers must be taken before entering any of the pools/spa. Clean swim attire must be worn in the pools and whirlpools. Cutoff shorts, T-shirts, thong bikinis, see-through suits and unapproved footwear are prohibited. NO T-shirts, gym shorts, sports bras. Chewing gum, food, and glass containers are not permitted in or around pools. Street shoes are not permitted on the pool deck. When requested, lap swimmers shall circle swim in a counter-clockwise direction. Kickboards, pull buoys, dumbbells, flotation belts, etc are used for exercise only. Flotation belts are not to be used as flotation devices for children. Diving, running on the decks, and horseplay in or around the pools is not allowed. At the discretion of the lifeguard, diving rings, noodles and balls may be used in the leisure pool but not in the lap lane area. Large floating devices are not permitted. Swim diapers or plastic pants are required for children not toilet trained. Please do not talk to the lifeguard while he/she is actively scanning the pool. Inappropriate public display of affection is not permitted. Spa Rules The minimum age for the use of the spa is 16 years of age. Clean swim attire must be worn in the pools and whirlpools. Cutoff shorts, T-shirts, thong bikinis, see-through suits and unapproved footwear are prohibited. NO T-shirts, gym shorts, sports bras. For your safety, please limit your use of the spa to fifteen (15) minutes. Spa capacity is 22 people. Please follow the additional precautions posted on the wall by the spa controls. LOCKERS Day use lockers are available on a first come first serve basis. Patrons must provide their own lock and remove their belongings when exiting the facility. Locks left on overnight will be cut off and the contents removed. For your protection, we strongly encourage you to LOCK YOUR LOCKER. Locks for day use can be purchased at the Membership Service Counter or patrons can supply their own locks. Long term locker rentals are available and include towel service. Please visit the Service Counter for more information pertaining to the fee structure and process for reserving lockers. Cubicles are located throughout the facility for those who prefer to keep belongings within reach. 8

9 All clothing, shoes, or personal items found on the floor will be confiscated and taken to the Lost and Found located at the Equipment Distribution Counter. Patrons are to place all clothing, shoes, or other personal items in the cubbies or lockers in the facility. Cell phone usage is prohibited in the locker rooms. TOWEL SERVICE Hand towel service is available to all members for no additional charge. Bath towel service sales are processed at the Service Counter. Bath towels may be picked up at the Equipment Issue Counter. EQUIPMENT Recreational equipment is available to check out by Members for use inside the SRC is available at the Equipment Issue Desk. Any member of the facility may borrow equipment by presenting their ISU Sycamore Card. Any damaged or unreturned equipment or supplies will be billed to the member. Check Out Equipment Available: basketballs, volleyballs, indoor soccer balls, weight belts, ping pong paddles, badminton racquets, tennis racquets, jump ropes, etc. INDOOR TRACK Track Mileage The track is 1/9 of a mile. Please use the outside lanes to pass others. Tank tops are allowed on the track. Sport bras alone are not adequate. See the posted sign for daily running direction. Strollers are prohibited. FITNESS ROOMS Combatives Room Participants are only to use wrestling shoes or bare feet when on the mats You are responsible for the safety of your training partners Careless and/or rough behavior will not be tolerated Lower body attacks- ankle hooks and knee bars are not permitted Respect each other and yourself No live actual sparring with boxing gloves to the head of your training partner or opponent Keep fingernails and toenails clipped No jewelry All males SHOULD wear an athletic cup if using the mats for grappling arts Group Exercise Room The Group Exercise room is used primarily for formal programming. However, individuals may use the room for appropriate activity such as dance or exercise practice. Members may inquire at the Welcome Desk for access. Appropriate exercise apparel is required. Cycling Room The Cycling Room is only available for formal instructor led programming. 9
