4 Program-Level Student Learning Outcomes (PSLOs): n/a Course-Level Student Learning Outcomes (CSLOs): At the end of the course students will be able to: CSLO 1: Develop an appropriate stretching and warm up routine for athletic fitness for competition courses. (PSLO 1) CSLO2: Establish a base level of strength in specific muscle groups. (PSLO 1) CSLO3: Establish a base level of endurance running, and interval sprinting. (PSLO 1) CSLO4: Utilize appropriate mechanics for advanced weight exercises. (PSLO 1) Assessments: Pre Test and Final Post Test: Sit and reach test Pre Test and Final Post Test: 1 mile walk/run Pre Test and Final Post Test: 1 repetition maximum for specific muscle groups CSLO 1: Students develop an appropriate stretching and warm up routine for athletic fitness competition courses. Students will be taught stretching exercises for major muscle groups involved in the course prior to fitness training. They will do this daily to improve their level of flexibility. Students will be pre-tested to establish a range of flexibility for them as an individual and post- tested at the conclusion to evaluate their level of improvement. This is accomplished by the sit and reach test. CSLO 2: Establish a base level of strength in specific muscle groups. Students will evaluate their strength by establishing the maximum weight able to move (1 rep. max). They will record their results and establish the amount of weight to be lifted in each specific muscle group in a progressive resistive format. Students will be given a pre, midterm, and post test to evaluate their improvement in 1 repetition max. CSLO 3: Establish a base level of endurance running, and interval sprinting. Students will evaluate their aerobic fitness level by running a timed 1 mile. Proper running, breathing, and pace techniques will be emphasized. Students will evaluate their anaerobic fitness level by running a timed 40 yard sprint. Athlete will begin in a basic sprinter stance with proper acceleration techniques being emphasized. CSLO 4: Utilize appropriate mechanics for advanced weight training exercises. Students will be taught weight training exercises using individual weight machines, hand weights and free weights that use different major muscle groups. They will be mentored on proper body mechanics to get the full range of motion on a specific lift itself and the proper breathing technique for muscular endurance. Students will implement their workout based on the results of their 1 repetition max. This will be done on a daily or class schedule basis. Page 4 of 6
5 Method of Evaluation/Grading: A-Student is consistently participating and is observed exercising at a high level within their established level. In terms of cardiovascular endurance a student will consistently improve on the 1 mile run and 40 yard sprinting pre and final post test levels. In terms of flexibility students will consistently improve towards the highest level on the sit and reach test or goniometer measurements. In terms of the strength test the student will consistently improve their 1 repetition max from pre-test to final post test levels. C-Student participates adequately and maintains their pre-test level of performance in the 1 mile run, 40 yard sprint, sit and reach test, and 1 repetition max on the final post test for these activities.
