1 FUNCTIONAL - 7 Supine to Prone spine straight and abdominal muscles taut. Allow knees to bend. - Place one arm across abdomen and bend leg on same side.(a) - Tuck opposite arm closely against side of body. - Cue patient to begin rolling. - Use broad hand holds at shoulder and hip to assist patient. - Ensure crossed arm is in comfortable position, roll onto stomach.(b) - Position head, neck, and arms comfortably. Reverse procedure to return to supine. FUNCTIONAL - 8 Supine to Side-Lying Helper may place knee on bed to improve comfort. Keep spine straight and abdominal muscles taut. Allow knees to bend. - Grasp patient at shoulder and hip.(a) - Cue patient to roll toward helper. - Use arm muscles to assist patient in one smooth move.(b) - Before letting go, make sure patient is stable.
