Woburn Sportsmen s Association Newsletter September 2015 WSA Office hours: Sundays 10:00 AM 1:00 PM & during the Monthly Meeting 6:30PM 9:30PM Hello All, PRESIDENT S FIRING POINT I'd like to take a moment to offer my most sincere gratitude to outgoing directors Alec Murphy and Mike Yates. Thank you both for your time and commitment to the Association's operation and affairs. I'd also like to express my appreciation to those of you who will be stepping up to support the club by running in this month's elections, or re-election as it were. On that note, I'd like to share with all of the membership an I received recently regarding the outdoor pistol range and the ongoing work there at the time. The member was inquiring on the condition of the range, the debris from the removal of the old baffle material, various boards lying about and the lumber pile. The nature of the inquiry was essentially that the ranges normally look quite presentable and well maintained, but on this occasion of the member's visit, it seemed out of character to what the member was accustomed to. It was obvious that this member had not recently been on the website, nor reviewed recent newsletters as there was frequent reference made to the baffle repairs and IDPA upgrades. For this reason I implore everyone to keep current with the goings on at WSA by frequenting the website and reading the newsletter on a regular basis. There is always something going on, whether they are projects involving enhancements or repairs, safety issues, range closures or other pertinent club business and events. Additionally, after I responded as to the nature of the range conditions, the member stated the impression that the club had some form of paid staff that performed all range and grounds maintenance. So this goes to my next point: all members need to be aware that WSA is heavily dependent on volunteerism, especially involving routine maintenance. Outsourced projects to private contractors for maintenance and enhancements are limited to those requiring building permits, heavy construction equipment, technically involved projects and/or product installations, and those projects, which may be time sensitive to minimize range closures. The last issue addressed was regarding the lack of available target frames at the time of the visit. It can happen that the frames left outside the building get shot up and disposed of by the last user of the range. On this point, I'd ask anyone that for this condition, or any other for that matter on any other range, do not hesitate to info@woburnsportsmen.com and your concern will be forwarded in a timely manner to those who can best get the condition corrected. In this case, if you see there are only a couple of shot up frames remaining, let us know so we can get some replacements out. In closing, please do not hesitate to reach out to us if you have time to give and stay tuned to the newsletter and website for information on where and when you can be of service. Also, your attendance at our meetings is highly encouraged for up to the minute news, discussion and member input on cub business and events. Our Association is only as good as the willingness of its membership to positively impact function and appearance. Thanks in advance to your assistance and cooperation. I'll see you on the range. Rocky Collura 2

5 Annual Elections The following individuals are running for three open BOD seats. Jonathan Carey Member 2774 To all of those who may not know me, my name is Jon Carey and I have been a member of WSA for more than eight years. During this time I have served as a Board of Director, Archery Chair, and I have coached Junior Archery. I have been involved over the years in a variety of disciplines and am the current All-Around Club Champion. Since joining WSA, I have become a resident of Billerica. I am family oriented; I live with my girlfriend and her daughter who is a member of the Jr. Archery team, and I also have a son who is four and is becoming interested in the outdoors. I am avid recreational and commercial fisherman as well as a dedicated hunter through archery, rifle and primitive arms. I am a firm believer in the rights guaranteed to us by the Second Amendment. Robert Nicoloro Member 3201 Hello my name is Robert Nicoloro. I have been a member at WSA for a few years now, and I'm running for the Board of Directors. I am a level two archery instructor and am the current Junior Archery Program chairman. I believe that a strong stable club we will be able to put forward great programs to promote all the shooting sports. My employment experience is varied; I have held position from a High level IT and Engineering Consultant to my present position as a Water Distribution and Treatment Operator. This varied experience allows me to view issues from diverse perspectives, and allows me to approach situations with an open mind. I would like to continue to give back to our excellent organization and assist it in moving forward. I would appreciate your vote and look forward to seeing you around the club. Fred Crosdale Member 3314 I have been a member of WSA for a few years now. Since I first joined I got involved with the greater Boston pistol league. From there I started to volunteer for the junior archery program, and the beginner junior air pistol program. Currently I am on the OPEC committee here at WSA, where we are looking at how we can improve both the indoor and outdoor ranges and make them safer. I am also one of the safety officers for the IDPA practices that are held in the indoor range every second and fourth Sunday of the month from 4pm till 7pm. I ve been attending the Board of Directors meetings for some time now and would like the opportunity to help serve the club as best I can. In addition to all that, I am also a NRA Certified Pistol Instructor and a NRA Certified Home Firearm Safety Instructor. I would like to ask you for your support and thank you for your consideration to fill the newly vacated seat on the board of directors. Jackie Heller Member 3069 Hello members of WSA, I am running for one of the open board positions this month.
