2 Dearest Students If you ve been around MBC for awhile, you know that our mission is to help you be real with God, real with each other, and real in the world. Mission Trips are one of the ways that we as a church have been able to have an impact on our world. We ve seen people s lives change on trips to Haiti, Bulgaria, and St. Lucia. We ve had former students experience incredible life change traveling the world to different countries and do ministry on a World Race. There s something about serving on mission that has an incredible impact on both those serving and those being served (we think it has something to do with the incredible power of the gospel of Jesus J ). The problem is, some of those trips can be crazy daunting: foreign countries, travel far from home, and huge expenses ranging from $1200-$2000. Maybe you ve wanted to be used by God, but didn t think you could do so on a missions trip like that. Maybe you ve longed to experience a different context and impact others with your willing heart. Friends, the mission is closer that you think. There are many here in the states who need to experience the incredible life changing power of the gospel of Jesus, both in word and in action. And this summer Nashville, TN is the place where you can make difference, impacting both someone else s life and perhaps experiencing some incredible life change for yourself as well. The great part too is that it s totally doable. For a weeklong Servant Leadership Experience the cost is a mere $500. Given that this experience is replacing our traditional summer camp this year, which is normally $250, the amount you would need to raise is only $250. And with our fundraising efforts together we can assemble a team that will head down a make a difference for Jesus. So what are you going to do with your summer? There s nothing wrong with hanging back in our beautiful, quaint small town, maybe sleeping in, staying up late, playing some video games, or just killing time. But if you want to experience something radically different, and chance to see your life change through impacting others for Jesus, well, you re on the right page. LEAD222, the coordinating organization for this trip, is devoted to the mentoring, training and development of Christian leaders and students. LEAD222 values the concept of servant leadership and provides Servant Leadership Experiences to assist students who want to help serve the physically, financially and emotionally challenged of our world. These experiences help students develop the Christ-like leadership values that will guide them for life. This servant leadership experience will provide both training and service opportunities to help you live out the example of being a servant leader for Christ. You will be encouraged, equipped and empowered to live out a life that extends beyond your needs to meet the needs of others. Are you ready!? 3 General Info Lodging Community Church of Hendersonville 381 West Main Street Hendersonville, TN, Phone: (615) ü You will be sleeping on the floor so bring a sleeping bag and pillow. ü Males and females will be in separate rooms. Although they make every effort to assign our group to its own rooms, we may have to share with another group. ü The rooms may or may not be lockable, so we suggest you keep your valuables hidden, with you, lock them in the vehicles or leave them at home! Donations Apart from the Spaghetti Dinner and any other church sponsored fund raisers, you will be responsible for collecting and tuning in any fund raising checks/cash. You can turn money raised at one of our team meetings or at 360! We encourage you to keep track of how much money you raised, but we will also be keeping track as well. Any money you turn in that goes above and beyond your support will go toward our missions fund or possibly any team members who may need a little extra help. Transportation We ll be renting approximately (3) 15-passenger vans for the trip that will be driven by our 360 adult coaching staff. Coaches We will have coaches and/or parents attending the trip, not just as chaperones, but as spiritual guides and mentors for the students on this trip. Safety Safety is an important issue on any trip and one we take very seriously. LEAD222 is careful to provide prescreened, safe worksites. They reserve the right to send home any youth or adult that endangers the safety of another participant or is disruptive to the purposes of the mission trip. Dress Code On this mission trip our team will be representing LEAD222, Minooka Bible Church and Jesus Christ. It would be expected that you dress modestly at all times- no short shorts or revealing tops, only modest swimsuits, etc. PARENTS, PLEASE HELP US OUT WITH THIS! Males must wear a top at the work sites. If you are unsure if something is appropriate, please ask before we tell you to go change because we will. Be Prepared - Remember that you are a guest on these ministry work sites, keep a servant attitude - Things may change, so be prepared to be flexible and patient - Remember to bring refillable water bottles, sunscreen and hats for summer s hot weather

4 NASHVILLE PACKING LIST For The Trip Down - Travel Pillow (Optional) - Headphones (To zone out and rest when needed) - $10 for fast food on the way down, $10 for fast food on the way back - Snacks For Worksites: - Work gloves - Enough work clothes to last the week (old jeans, loose fitting t-shirts, etc) - Athletic shoes (close toed) and socks - Sunglasses and/or hat - Sunscreen, Sunscreen, Sunscreen! - Refillable Water Bottle Free Time: - Sweater or hoodie for cool weather - Nice, casual dress clothes for the Free Day Time activity; Modest Swimsuit - Money for Free Day Time activity, snacks and/or souvenirs; if desired Study and Reflection: - Bible - Journal - Pen or Pencils Hygiene and Toiletries: - Shower sandals // Soap // Washcloth // Toothbrush // Toothpaste // Deodorant // Shampoo - Towel - Medicines (Ziploc Bag with Name on it, for prescription: original prescription bottle Electronic Devices: - IPods/MP3s/Cell Phones You can bring them. However, you can only use them at night to go to sleep. Phones can be a huge distraction and we ask that you limit yourself during our time together on this epic missions trip experience. - There will be no electronics allowed in vans or at worksites during the week! (LEAVE THEM BACK) - Make a friend or two and enjoy one another s company. Leaders build relationships with others! WARNING: Pack as light as humanly possible! One suitcase (nothing that can hold a young bull), one carry on, and your sleeping bag + pillow are the maximum recommendation for packing. If we do not have enough room for your luggage, you will be asked to sit on your suitcase for the entire 8 + hours of travel to Nashville.

5 Fundraising (Please Read Carefully) Each student is required to fundraise for the cost of the trip. The cost for each participant to attend is $500 Our summer retreat normally carries a fee of $250. Thus, one idea is that if you are paying the normal summer camp fee, you can just plan on raising the other $250. Or if you like, you can raise it all! We do have some scholarship funds available, but we do expect that you raise at least half of the cost. Here are some ways to do it: 1. On your own: All students are encouraged to get creative outside of scheduled fundraisers. For example, GFS sells boxes of candy that you can sell to family members, classmates or anyone you know. By selling the candy in these boxes, you can raise around $25 for each box. Again, this is just an example, but don t be afraid to raise money on your own! Do some yardwork, mow a lawn, sell some lemonade get the idea? 2. Letters: We have prewritten prayer and financial support letters that you can mail to members of your family or friends. Please do NOT just send these to church members as they will be encouraged to support us through the auction. Students that have utilized these in the past have raised great support, so please contact me to get an electronic example! Think of it this way, if you have 10 people donate $25, you ve raised your half! 3. Saturday Car Wash Days: We are looking at hosting at least one car wash fundraiser on Saturday, June 4 th. This will be open to our community and we will simply ask for donations as we wash cars for a few hours. Any money that is raised during this event will be spread out among all PARTICIPATING students. More details to come as we get closer. 4. The Spaghetti Dinner &Youth Auction: This event is MANDATORY for anyone attending the Servant Leadership Experience. If you cannot participate in the Auction, You CANNOT attend this year s trip. We will be offering a spaghetti dinner for a suggested donation of $5 a person and auctioning YOU off to help serve members of our congregation through yard work, home cleanup, etc. Along with that, we are going to have items for members of the congregation to also bid on in a silent auction. More details to come on these items! The date of this event will be April 17 th! All participants are expected to be there to serve for the night. REMINDERS: The only mandatory fundraising event you must participate in is the Spaghetti Dinner & Youth Auction. Contact Jason if you have any questions regarding the auction. IMPORTANT: Regardless of what our team raises for the youth auction, participants will be responsible for raising the rest of the required funds for the trip. There are many ways and ideas for you to accomplish this, so please ask and take ownership! There are great fundraising ideas on Google and Pinterest, so take advantage of the technology we have!
