1 International Symposium Childhood, Youth, Society VII May 2014, Festspielhaus Bregenz, Austria 1
2 Dear Participants! We have been inviting you to our international symposiums since the year 2000, the events of which were planned in the course of inspiring exchanges with our partners and participants. In the course of these joint efforts we have been attempting to reflect the rapid as well as substantial changes of our times in a sustainable way in order to respond to these shifts and to put ourselves into a position of proactive anticipation of the future. This is achieved by including sources and insights from many different areas of knowledge; also by taking a thorough look at their basic principles and then scrutinizing our everyday actions. In 2013, we began to prepare for a new phase of this process by using our theme of Childhood, Youth, Society as a basis, the results of which will be made accessible in the course of three large events in 2014, 2016, and The point of origin of this project is our fundamental esteem for individuals as well as groups and, consequently, standing up for and safeguarding their integrity. The symposiums will continue to be a placed in spaces where encounters are fostered, different orientations are permitted, and where networking and support is provided with the intention of offering young people a fair and sustainable way of working together in a creative way. By virtue of input from lectures, discussion groups and round table discussions, these symposiums will act as spaces for reflection and polylog, which again will allow participants to expand their horizons and attitudes towards children and young people, based on their own biographies and shaped by their occupations and to then discuss and plan possible applications for their own day-to-day lives. 2 Hence, our Childhood, Youth, Society symposiums will have a strong transdisciplinary focus with the goal of eliciting the formation of underlying orientations as well as building new values that will enable participants to intervene and advocate on behalf of others on a socio-
3 political, regional and international level, based on the appreciation of historical as well as present-day circumstances. We are offering this space for reflection to the following groups: Children, adolescents, parents, mental health professionals, professionals working with families in pre-schools and schools, community representatives, health professionals, children s rights advocates, media representatives, policy makers, administrators, and law enforcement members. The program was designed in cooperation with representatives from these groups as well as the sciences. We would enjoy the opportunity of welcoming YOU at the 2014 Symposium. Carmen Feuchtner and Gerhard König (Welt der Kinder) On behalf of our cooperation partners: Christoph Hackspiel, Anneli Kremmel-Bohle (Vorarlberger Kinderdorf), Christian Posch, Elisabeth Hauser (SOS-Kinderdorf International & Österreich), Stefan Allgäuer, Karin Moratti (ifs), Peter Klinger, Michael Natter (Caritas), Bernd Klisch, Andreas Hemetsberger (aks gesundheit Gmbh), Wolfram Metzger, Thomas Summer (pro mente Vorarlberg Gmbh), Manfred Ganahl (Stiftung Jupident) 3 Cover page: Wassily Kandinsky, The Blue Mountain, , oil on canvas (106 x 96.6 cm) Solomon R.
