January 9, :00-3:00pm Howdy all, There is only 3 weeks until Christmas but it sure doesn t feel like it! 50 s this weekend feels more like spring then winter but hey, less snowplowing for us in northwest Indiana! As we move through the winter months here at SOC, fundraising is our top priority. We have several coming up (listed in this month s newsletter) that will generate much needed funds to operate during these down months. We need everyone to participate to ensure the success of these fundraisers so if you haven t already, check them out. Besides fundraising, the other important event going on in the next month or so is the camp holiday party on Saturday, January 9 th. All parents, family, campers and friends are invited to attend. If you can make it, please RSVP by Monday, December 28 th. We will be having the usual potluck lunch and all attendees will be asked to bring an item (desert, appetizer, etc.). So save the date and come on out for a halfway to camp 2016 reunion. As usual, if you have any fundraising ideas, or would like to add something to next month s newsletter, feel free to drop me a line. 2 Fundraising Shady Oaks Camp Daily Pick 3 Raffle 1000 tickets will be sold numbered Tickets are $10 each Every day during the month of February 2016, the Illinois Daily Game (evening Drawing) numbers are picked. Whoever has that EXACT number is the winner for that day. The payout is $100 per day and $150 on Sundays. Not bad for a $10 ticket!! Also, if the same number is pulled during the month (and yes, it happens) you win again! You have to match the numbers in the Exact order and not in reverse or any other combination. Example, If 258 is pulled, only 258 wins (not 285, 528, 852 etc.) We will keep track of the drawing every day. One ticket gives you 29 chances to win!! (LESS THEN 200 TICKETS STILL AVAILABLE!) Contact Lori McAleavy for tickets mcaleavy1@comcast.net Just a piece of the pie. Shady Oaks Camp is partnering together With Baker Square We will be offering 2 types of pie cards. A Fruit or Baked pie card cost $12.50 A Cream pie card costs $15.00 Checks or money orders made out to Shady Oaks Camp. Families will receive half of the profit made On each pie card that they sell. Mary Kay Fundraiser Sunday December 6 th Rachel Manago, former staff member and Sister of current camper Becky, is at it again! Rachel will be hosting a holiday Mary Kay 2-4pm Party at camp from in the dining hall. Pamper yourself and find the perfect holiday gift for that special someone (and maybe something for yourself too!) A portion of the profits will be donated to shady Oaks Camp. If you are unable to make the party, but are still interested in the holiday products and helping SOC, You can visit her website at Gift certificates are also available. 3 Fundraising cont. We will be running an exciting new fundraiser this year. With the help of volunteers, we will be constructing a wishing well/fountain in the middle of camp and leading up to the well will be a memorial brick pathway. We are partnering with polar engraving to sell engraved bricks for this memorial walkway. 4 x 8 bricks will be $ ($ if you would like a replica mini brick) and can be purchased through the polar engraving camp website 100% of profits will go to support SOC! By purchasing a brick, you will not only be immortalizing your occasion or loved one, but also be providing much needed funds to SOC. Bricks may also be customized to include your business logo or other graphic image from a catalog of clip art. Page 3

4 Thank You Thank you to the kids from the UIC Lab schools for coming out on October 30 th to rake leaves and clean buildings. We just need you guys to come out maybe 20 or 30 more times and we can get rid of all the leaves! Thank you to the Junior Girl Scout Troops & from St Mary in Riverside for coming out to do some much needed camp cleanup. We d like to thank the following for their generous donations to camp; Kiwanis of Orland Park, Grace & Basil Tydings, Laurie Harff and Jerry Critser. A big thank you to Florence Blackburn for her donation of a 5' snow blower and also to Randy & Charlene Swanson for picking up and delivering the snow blower. Not much longer and it will be put to the test! Volunteer We are looking for volunteers to help with registration during our charity poker tournament on December 5th, 2015 at Pete Mitchells Bar and Grill (1000 Frankfort Square Rd, Frankfort, IL 60423) If you can volunteer anytime between the hours of 11:30am to 2am please contact Scott Steele at (708) or soc16300@sbcglobal.net Misc.
