South London and Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust Assessment and Liaison Outreach Team Kent and Medway Adolescent Unit (Woodland House)
What we do One in ten young people has a mental health problem such as depression or an eating disorder, and there are a range of services that can provide help. We work with local services in Kent and Medway to ensure that young people aged between get the right mental health care and support. We are based at the Kent and Medway Adolescent Unit, Woodland House, Staplehurst, however we spend a lot of our time out and about working with young people at home or wherever else they would like us to see them. This may be at school or somewhere like a local café or park. We also work with young people who are in hospital. Our team is made up of a wide range of clinical and support staff.
Your care and treatment In some cases, we may be able to provide you and your family or guardian with extra support so that you don't need to be admitted to hospital. This might involve a member of our team meeting with you regularly at home to talk with you about how you are feeling, make sure you are receiving the right treatment and provide practical support. If you do need to go into hospital for a while, we will remain in contact with you in order to review your care. In these cases, we will work with you so that you can be discharged as soon as possible. We may be able to do this by providing you with ongoing support at home for a few weeks once you have been discharged. We may also be involved, along with your local health team, in providing you with treatment.
Working in partnership Your views are really important to us, and we want to work with you and your family or guardian so that you get the right care and treatment in the right place. Once we have agreed a plan of care with you, we will send you a copy in writing. We will also send one to your GP. We also work very closely with local NHS and social care services in Kent and Medway, and each of the adolescent mental health units in the local area.
Want to know more? If you have any questions or concerns about your care and treatment, please talk to a member of staff. Find out more about us at: Find out more about our specialist child and adolescent mental health services at: See overleaf for more contact information, including details of our Patient Advice and Liaison Service (PALS).
