T is for: Tapping the Talent in each lodge, to make the Moose Home more welcoming. I is for: Including each member in each function and meeting. O is for: Overcoming Obstacles so you may work and plat together. N is for: Nuking the needless negativity floating around the lodge home. 6 PRESIDENT MESSAGE I would like to thank everyone who came out for our first meeting of the new year from our surrounding Chapters and Lodges. It was great to have such wonderful support. We have a great line up of officers who are working together to increase our membership in CA North State Council of Higher Degrees and putting much effort into our number one fund raiser which is selling Council of Higher Degrees lapel pins and bake-less-bake sale. Please continue to support our efforts. We would like to thank South Sacramento Lodge #255 for hosting us on Jan 21 st. Our next meeting will be at Elkhorn Moose Lodge #2060 on April 8, Officers to meet at 11:00 A.M. with lunch and General meeting to follow. Mid-Year Conference was great! Also at this time I want to wish our Chaplain Pat a speedy recovery from her eye surgery. Look forward to seeing everyone at our next meet in April. Thank You. Fraternally - Pat Bledsoe VICE PRESIDENT MESSAGE Membership RETENTION is the #1 purpose of this distinctive unit of the Moose the Council of Higher Degrees. Personal contact is one of the most effective tools in retaining our members. With that knowledge, it has been suggested that a Moose-A-Thon be held in every Moose Home. This Moose A-Thon committee is made up of Higher Degree members and other interested members. This committee could develop a system to contact all Lodge, Chapter and Moose Legion members in arrears. Come to our meeting on Apr 8 th at the Elkhorn Moose Lodge #2060 so we can all work together on sharing ideas to bring members back! Fraternally Linda Huber JR. 7 COUNCIL OF HIGHER DEGREES The Councils main responsibility and goal is to aid the Lodges, Chapters and Moose Legions in the RETENTION of active dues paying members through personal contact. Our Council members run various social programs and do a fair amount of fund-raising as well. Support of Moose Charities initiatives and our fraternity in general is often very rewarding as done by these groups. After all, they are made up of past and current leaders who believe in our cause and know our needs and how to fulfill them. Additionally, the Councils normally have an annual banquet and/or other events to honor those new degree holders who have advanced in the past year. These events recognize the individuals and offer a chance to publicly thank them for their service among their peers. This in itself promotes benevolence and charity among all members. As members of the Higher Degrees, these groups are generally in the forefront of support and promotion of Moose programs and lead the cause of fraternalism by example. These groups, at the Chapter, Lodge and Moose Legion level, may meet as often as desired to socialize, work towards building membership strength, raise funds for Moose Charities and help with various other fraternal endeavors. Supporting veterans is something that has always been important to the Moose.

The focus of this program is on the recognition and support of Moose veterans with an emphasis on their ongoing service to their fraternal units and communities through the Moose.

This approach simultaneously honors our veterans while also highlighting the Fraternity s commitment to community service.

11 Supporting veterans is something that has always been important to the Moose. So, it is no surprise that our newest initiative, the Valued Veterans program, has drawn so much interest from members, lodges and chapters. The focus of this program is on the recognition and support of Moose veterans with an emphasis on their ongoing service to their fraternal units and communities through the Moose. The program s tag phrase captures this well: Moose Members Serving Then... and NOW! This approach simultaneously honors our veterans while also highlighting the Fraternity s commitment to community service. The International Heart of the Community Committee approached the planning of this program with passion, enthusiasm, and personal insights, as several members are veterans themselves. The goal was to deliver more recognition and support to our own members who are veterans and to provide Lodges and Chapters with the necessary tools to make the best possible impact on all who have served. When this ambitious program was previewed at the 2016 Moose Convention in St. Louis, many voiced strong opinions about elements they wanted to see included in the program. Obviously, the main focus of the Moose is our fraternal programs, including Mooseheart, Moosehaven and Heart of the Community activities; and though we don t have the expertise or resources to be a full-fledged veteran s services organization, we know we can still provide recognition and support to our veteran members who have made a positive impact on society through their service and through our Fraternity. Admittedly, this program may not be all things to all veterans, but we will strive to serve our veterans to the very best of our ability. Our members strong sentiments only confirm that they are passionate about this cause, and do want to see the program succeed and therefore, we are confident that it will. Official Logo The official logo of the Council of Higher Degrees is the standing Moose overlaid on six (6) interlocking rings representing the Degrees of the Order. The color of the rings denote the degrees: Pilgrim is gold; Fellowship is French blue, Moose Legion is purple, College of Regents is black, Academy of Friendship is blue and the Star Recorder is green. Purpose The purpose of the Council of Higher Degrees is: To be actively involved in the retention of Lodge, Chapter and Moose Legion members. To promote and support the programs of Moose Charities. To honor all newly elevated members of the higher degrees. To honor the memories of deceased members of the Council of Higher Degrees. To promote the programs of the Loyal Order of Moose and Women of the Moose. To encourage fraternal and social unity, benevolence and charity among all members of the Order.
