1 National Certificate in Mental Health and Addiction Support (Level 4) With optional strands in Addiction,, and This qualification recognises the skills and knowledge of people who work as mental health and addiction support workers and ensures they have the appropriate knowledge and skills to perform the role and provide quality support to service users. Programme overview People completing this qualification will meet the requirements of the Ministry of Health s (2008) Let s get real framework at the essential level of performance. Learning and assessment for this qualification can occur in the workplace, through another workplace or in polytechnics and private training establishments. Careerforce is committed to improving the health and wellbeing of New Zealanders through workforce training. Programme outline The qualification covers the following topics: the mental health and addiction sector in New Zealand. local services and resources. engaging with service users. culturally safe operating principles. contributing factors to mental health. the impact of co-existing problems. mental health and addiction and life stages. supporting a user to manage prescribed medication. maintaining wellness. law and ethics. The Mental Health and Addiction (Level 4) qualification also allows workplaces or trainees to select from a range of unit standards to create a tailored qualification that suits the requirements of the workplace info@careerforce.org.nz
2 Average duration 18 months Fees $300 Credits 105 Enrolment requirements To enrol in Mental Health and Addiction Support (Level 4), the trainee must meet the following requirements: be employed as a support worker in a mental health and addiction support organisation. have one of the following residency statuses: o New Zealand citizen (including Cook Islands, Niue and Tokelau citizens) o New Zealand permanent resident o New Zealand work permit/work visa o Australian citizen o hold refugee status in New Zealand. Mental Health Support Workers Training Grant This Grant assists trainees with their tuition fees. Trainees must meet certain eligibility criteria and can receive up to $2, Le Va Mental Health and Addiction Scholarships The purpose of the Le Va mental health and addiction scholarships is to increase the number of Pacific people working in mental health and addictions and enhance the knowledge and skills of the current Pacific workforce.
