2 GROUP STRUCTURE POSITION FOCUS This position exists to provide a high quality, culturally appropriate, assessment and therapeutic service for clients and families living with or affected by mental illness. This role will work cross the community, inpatients and alcohol and drug service.

Document client based therapeutic changes and planned treatment interventions. To assist in the development and implementation of the early intervention programme Be prepared to undertake client consultations as required within the hours of work or by prior arrangement with Clinical Director and/or Service Manager Community Mental Health. Supervision To provide professional mediation and conflict resolution support/supervision to other departments/staff within the organisation as approved by the Group Manager Mental Health and Addiction Services or Service Manager Community Mental Health To participate in cultural supervision with the Kai Arahi or suitably approved supervisor Psychotherapy provided in an environment, which is safe, private, and comfortable and which affords minimal disruption. The individual and family/whanau is supported to make an informed choice of the most acceptable form of psychotherapy from the range of psychotherapies and therapeutic techniques available. Concise, accurate records are appropriately maintained. The Therapist will be available to contribute to the various professional skills and abilities for the benefit of the service. Regular contact is maintained with the Clinical Director and Service Manager Mental Health Services, ensuring professional supervision (both therapeutic and cultural) and development is co-ordinated and maintained.

6 Skills, Knowledge, Abilities and Attributes PERSON SPECIFICATION Essential Have a three year degree in Counselling and registration with professional body in New Zealand A proven ability to understand, observe and apply the appropriate professional Code of Ethics (e.g. NZAP) and quality standards of professional practice A proven ability to recognise, acknowledge and address cultural differences with sensitivity and a willingness to participate in ongoing activities directed at improving one s knowledge of the Treaty of Waitangi, Tikanga Maori and Te Reo skills A sound clinical knowledge combined with appropriate therapeutic skills Proven ability and performance in the appropriate application of legislation relevant to the Mental Health Service Ability to work closely and harmoniously with others to achieve professional and department/service based goals A sound knowledge of developmental psychology, personality formation, psychopathology and the nature of the human condition A sound knowledge, understanding, experience and application of a variety of therapeutic treatment interventions/programmes to address a broad range of psychiatric and psychological conditions including (but not limited to) psycho-analytic (Jungian), psycho-dynamic (Freudian), Object-relations, Transactional Analysis, Existential, Person-centred (Rogerian), cognitive and behavioural techniques (e.g. CBT), Psycho-synthesis and Integrative Psychotherapy. A sound knowledge and experience of working with and treating a broad spectrum of clients presenting with personality disorders and severe personality adaptations, schemas and traits e.g. Schizoid, Narcissist and Borderline conditions A proven ability of establishing an effective therapeutic alliance/bond with clients and the ability to be effective working within the therapeutic relationship.
