Advisers can also refer young people for specialist support if needed. Personal Advisers work with young people aged years, and where a young person has a learning difficulty or disability, this service continues up to the age of 25 years. It provides advice and information on welfare benefits, employment and money advice to those eligible for legal help. Staff from the CAB give advice at outreach sessions in venues throughout the Borough, as well as at its premises at Bennet House. They can also make home visits and there is a telephone advice service. It aims to relieve mental and emotional crises suffered by persons who are homosexual, bisexual or in doubt about their sexuality, as well as supporting their friends, relatives and partners. 5 The Mobile advice Co-operative The co-operative is available at the following centres and times for drop in advice and information: Tuesday pm Dodmire Children s Centre Wednesday 10-12pm Mcnay Street Children s Centre Wednesday pm Skerne Park children s Centre Thursday am Mount Pleasant Children s Centre National Domestic Violence freephone helpline Telephone: The freephone, 24-hour National Domestic Violence Helpline, run in partnership between Women's Aid and Refuge, is a national service for women experiencing domestic violence, their family, friends, colleagues and others calling on their behalf. The Helpline can give support, help and information over the telephone, wherever the caller might be in the country. The Helpline is staffed 24 hours a day by fully trained female helpline support workers and volunteers. All calls are completely confidential. Translation facilities for callers whose first language is not English and a service for callers who are deaf, or hard of hearing, are available. The National Probation Service The National Probation Service is a law enforcement agency and public authority. Officers work with offenders, to supervise them in programmes aimed at reducing re-offending. Protecting the public Reducing re-offending Rehabilitation of offenders Ensuring the proper punishment of offenders. NECA Darlington Drug and Alcohol Service Telephone: Website: This service is available to anyone aged 18 or over who is registered with a general practitioner in Darlington or resides within the borough. We are open Monday to Friday; 9:00am - 4:30pm. The service is open access and people can walk in for advice or an assessment during the opening hours, or ring to request an appointment time. The service also accepts referrals from GP s and other professionals. Our team of specialist clinical and non-clinical staff offer a dedicated recovery focussed approach to treatment by providing;- advice and education on drug and alcohol misuse - specialist prescribing - harm reduction service - one to one support - group work - assessment for detoxification and residential rehabilitation - relapse prevention - counselling - complimentary therapies - aftercare and support - carer's assessments. 5
6 NHS Services Call 999 for emergency medical attention. Call 111 when you need medical help fast, but it isn t a 999 emergency. Call NHS Direct to obtain details of your nearest local health services, and confidential information and advice on health conditions NHS professionals can provide help and support to those affected by domestic abuse. Police Safeguarding Team Services in Darlington include: Alcohol & Substance Misuse Services Community Nursing Contraceptive and Sexual Health Services Dentists GP services Health Visiting Mental Health Services Pharmacies School Nursing Smoking Cessation Walk in centre Address: Darlington Police Station,St Cuthbert s Way, Darlington Telephone: 101 The unit investigates crimes of domestic abuse and aims to reduce the risk of repeat incidents, or serious harm to victims. It also aims to bring abusers to justice. Officers work closely with other agencies to ensure victims are supported. Rape and Sexual Abuse Counselling Centre (RSACC) Telephone: (01325) (Business) or (Support Line) RSACC is a charity which provides free & confidential specialist counselling and listening support to women and girls (over the age of 13) who have been raped and/or sexually abused as well as those who have or are experiencing domestic abuse. We offer a structured package of support tailored to the needs of the Individual Client. This includes: Housing Issues Support to obtain Legal Advice/Orders Financial advice/benefits Support through the court process Sign Posting Drop in Facility Emotional Support Awareness around Domestic Abuse Confidence Building The Service is able to support a client for up to 1 year and the service is confidential. We also have a Children s Worker within the service to provide support to Children who have witnessed Domestic Abuse. Sexual Assault Referral Centre Address: Park Place, Darlington Telephone: (0191) The Sexual Assault Referral Centre (SARC) specialises in health care, police services and agency referrals for women and men who have experienced sexual assault. Risk assessment and safety planning Physical examination and treatment for physical injuries Collection of forensic evidence Counselling Testing and preventive treatment for possible sexually transmitted infections Referral to community agencies Fortnightly clinic for victims of sexual crime Sexual health screening Support with court processes Help with practical issues (eg housing, signposting /referring to other appropriate services such as mental health, drug / alcohol intervention etc) (either police referrals or nonpolice referrals). Victim Support Telephone: Mon - Fri 8am - 8pm Sat 9am - 5pm Darlington Victim Support is a charity, offering free, confidential support and information to anyone affected by crime. Our staff and volunteers are specially trained to give information, practical help and emotional support to people who have been threatened or abused. Victims are usually put in touch with us by the police but you can contact us directly, whether or not you want to report the crime to the police and regardless of when it happened. We ll help you, whatever the decision you make. 7
