3 4 5 Foreword epact 2 update Welcome to the April 2017 issue of Hints & Tips, your regular newsletter full of updates and information. In this issue we ve included an update on epact2, and we re introducing our new look website. We d love your feedback on the website, so do have a look at and let us know what you think by completing our short survey. There s also information on recent organisation changes and on how changes to the BNF will affect Information Services reports, plus details of products now available as licensed medicines. If there are any topics you d like us to cover in future issues please let us know at nhsbsa.communicationsteam@nhs.net As a public sector organisation, the NHSBSA is obliged to observe the purdah pre-election period regulations in the same way as all government departments. During purdah, there are restrictions on publications and the communication activities that we can carry out. Therefore the national roll out of epact2 will be delayed until after the election period. We will update all epact2 users as soon as possible after the purdah restrictions are lifted. We re introducing our new look website. We d love your feedback on the website.

4 6 7 New NHSBSA website now available! As part of the NHS Business Services Authority s work towards digitising our services, a number of new or replacement online services are being developed. Our website acts as both a gateway to these services and our biggest source of customer information, so we ve replaced our outdated website with a new one that better meets our customer and business needs. We ve ensured that our users have been involved from the beginning and throughout development of the new site. It has been designed around what they actually told us, and has been subject to the Government Digital Service (GDS) approval process throughout. The new site launched in the week commencing 17 April. You won t notice any change to our content, but it looks and feels more user friendly and there are other benefits including easier navigation and an improved search facility. We re keen to hear your feedback on the new website, so why not have a look at and let us know what you think? 5 8 9 BNF 72 The NHS Business Services Authority s (NHSBSA) information systems and reports are produced using a therapeutic classification system based on and closely following the British National Formulary (BNF). The BNF chapter numbering structure (sometimes referred to as the hierarchy) was changed in BNF70 to facilitate the development of digital products and the print restructuring of content. However the BNF publisher is continuing to support the chapter structure featured in previous editions of the BNF throughout 2017 through BNF Legacy. The NHSBSA makes amendments to their systems every year to reflect any changes which have taken place in the BNF during the previous 12 months. These relate to changes to section headings and item classifications and take effect from prescriptions dispensed from that January. With the release of January 2017 data in March 2017, all reports will reflect differences up to and including legacy BNF hierarchy 72 (issued September 2016). The NHSBSA makes amendments to their systems every year to reflect any changes which have taken place in the BNF during the previous 12 months. Licensed medicines Folic acid 5mg/5ml oral solution sugar free is now available as a licensed medicine from Colonis Pharma Ltd, and should ideally be considered instead of using Folic acid 5mg/5ml oral solution (Special Order) which is an unlicensed product. Naproxen 250mg/5ml oral suspension (Thornton & Ross Ltd) is now licensed and available. Unlicensed Naproxen 250mg/5ml oral suspension (Special Order) has been discontinued on the NHS dictionary of medicines and devices (dm+d).

6 10 11 Organisation changes From 1 April 2017 NHS Lancashire North CCG changed its name to NHS Morecambe Bay CCG. At the same time three CCGs in Manchester merged to form one CCG; NHS Central Manchester CCG, NHS North Manchester CCG and NHS South Manchester CCG are all now part of NHS Manchester. NHSBSA systems will reflect these changes and from April 2017 data all reports will mirror the new structure. Historic data will continue to be available for the three Manchester CCGs which existed prior to April 2017 but only data from April 2017 will be available for the newly formed NHS Manchester CCG.
