Program Evaluation Co-Investigator, Sexual Health Awareness through Peer Education (SHAPE) Program Evaluation September 2006 May 2008 Responsibilities: Collaborate with evaluation team to develop the evaluation plan including study design for the SHAPE program, conduct formative research, develop data collection instruments, analyze data for manuscript development, present findings and make recommendations to SHAPE stakeholders, and secure funding for the program evaluation. Overview of SHAPE Program Evaluation: The Sexual Health Awareness through Peer Education (SHAPE) program sponsored by the Center for Aids Research at the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) uses a peer education model to provide information related to sexual decision-making and HIV awareness to adolescents and young adults in Birmingham, Alabama. UAB peer educators offer workshops to provide sexual health information. The SHAPE program evaluation was based on a one group pre- and post-test study design with a nonequivalent dependent variable. Pre-tests were conducted immediately preceding SHAPE workshops and post-tests were conducted at one-month follow-up using a Web-based survey. Partnerships: The University of Alabama at Birmingham, Department of Health Behavior and the Center for Aids Research at the University of Alabama at Birmingham. Principal Investigator December 2006-December 2007 Concurrent Sexual Partnerships Among African American College Students: A mixed methods study to identify normative beliefs and perceived health consequences. Responsibilities: Develop study protocol, project planning for a qualitative and quantitative study, data collection of face to face structured interviews and questions adapted from the American College Health Association survey, data analysis including qualitative coding and theme development, presentation of findings at professional conferences.
