Approval of Minutes Dr. Margaret Churcher moved to approve the Saturday, June 18, 2016 minutes. Seconded by Mr. Ray Clark. MOTION CARRIED. 3. Presentations 3.1 CCA Research Strategy Dr. Greg Cairncross Marg Semel Dr. Greg Cairncross and Marg Semel presented the CCA Research Strategy what research should look like in Alberta. They shared the findings of a current state inventory of research needs which involved over 50 structured interviews with key CancerControl Alberta (CCA) stakeholders. From this process and additional feedback/discussion opportunities, the objective is to table a series of recommendations that can form the basis of a 5-year CCA research vision/strategy. Moving forward both organizational structure and stewardship are seen as key focus areas. Discussion from the group included the following ideas: Structure needed to support a provincial plan Include patients at a think tank level Donor confusion present due to lack of overarching Federal and Provincial

Quarterly Report Updates 4.1 Governance and Council of Chairs Dr. Tony Fields 4.2 CancerControl Update Dr. Matthew Parliament Nancy Guebert Plans Guiding principles embrace differences, pursue alignment, share mandate and co-locate Create a culture of all heath care providers are a part of research Dr. Tony Fields provided the following update from the Council of Chairs September 1, 2016 meeting. Renewal of PAC/HAC representatives will be forwarded to the AHS Board for consideration prior to September 29 th. AHS Community Engagement is in the process of drafting an Orientation Booklet. Conflict of Interest (COI) forms and process being streamlined. Minister Hoffman is confirmed to attend the Fall Forum ; theme of forum is Engagement & Partnership. Dr. Matthew Parliament and Ms. Nancy Guebert provided an update entitled Alberta s Cancer Plan to 2030: Performance Measures Update. Updates on the following measures were provided: Reducing the Risk of Cancer Risk Behaviors Cancer Screening Cancer Stage Data Early Detection Rate Wait times to referral to first consult, ready to treat to first radiation treatment, for systemic treatment, cancer surgery Clinical Trials Participation Stage by SES & Ethnicity Patient Report Outcomes (PRO) and Experience Improving Transition Support post Treatment Measures for Distress Nancy Guebert invited the group to attend the Community Open House for the New Calgary Cancer Centre on October 12 th 5-8pm at the Project Management Office in Calgary. Nancy asked group about its interest in utilizing a PAC Participation Request Form as 2 P a g e

3 4.3 Cancer Strategic Clinical Network Core Committee Tricia Antonini Lorelee Marin 5. Outstanding Business a tool to engage the group as a lens to CCA Operations when feedback/input is needed from patient/family perspective. Group was very interested in opportunity to help at a strategic level. Ms. Tricia Antonini and Ms. Lorelee Marin updated group from the last meeting s focus on Breast Reconstruction Work Project. Next meeting is scheduled for October 13, Work Plan 6. New Business 6.1 Council Roundtable The Workplan will be updated and presented at the December 10 th PAC meeting. Discussions for the plan are underway focusing mainly on prevention and engagement objectives. Dr. Heather Bryant Save the Date April 7 & 8, 2017, CPAC hosting meeting to connect and share work related to Innovation Dr. Huiming Yang Community Profile Project will cover screening indicators at a greater depth and will be more interactive; it will soon be released to the public. Varinder Bhullar - raised concern for interest in how group can play a role in increasing the numbers for awareness and action related to screening and testing. How to share and connect with ethnic communities? Social media and public show opportunities have potential to reach out to these groups. Would like to connect with Dr. Yang to look at options. Dan Holinda Been involved over the past few months in co-leading organizational renewal and structure to increase performance in cancer control and research. Looking to co-fund and fund hard to detect and hard to treat cancers to increase survivability from 68% to 80% in 15 years. Urging governments to look to 20 year platforms for prevention funding options. Please watch for a couple of high level announcements to be released in Spring Ray Clark Has chosen to step down form the TBCC PFAC group. Dr. 3 P a g e

4 Lorelee Marin has taken on a new project in her role with AHS as Health Promotion Facilitator, Community Addiction and Mental Health. Presently reviewing key messages related to prevention and screening of alcohol consumption. Tricia Antonini TBCC PFAC requested her participation at Sept 7 th meeting with Alberta Infrastructure related the New Calgary Cancer Centre Project. Overall she was very pleased with the information prepared by NCCC team previous work from 2 years ago was well incorporated as an appendix to be used in current planning. Patti Morris New Edmonton Wellspring scheduled to open soon. Wellspring Calgary has purchased land in Seton subdivision for second location; RFP for architect will go out in near future. Dr. Angeline Letendre The newest SCN to join the network is Population, Public & Indigenous Health. There will be cancer prevention working group as part of the SCN (presently on hold). CPAC strongly supported the International Indigenous Cancer Research event by taking group to the convention. Dr. Margaret Churcher Preliminary meetings for the CHR grant funded BETTERWISE initiative are scheduled for December and January. LauraLee Clarke - PAC representative renewals and reappointments have gone to the AHS Board for Sept 29 th approval. Mike Ross and Dean Wheeler have resigned. There are 4 public member vacancies and 2 resource experts open for recruitment. Terms of Reference will be updated along with bylaws Meeting Dates Please let LauraLee know if dates need to be adjusted. 7.
