Central State Hospital provides services to patients needing longer-term treatment and specialty care, notably dual diagnosis and forensic psychiatry. Clientele are ethnically diverse, low SES men and women from several counties in Kentucky.

Clientele include parents and children involved with the local Department of Child Services. Clientele are mainly Caucasian, low-ses individuals from rural Southern Indiana. Maintained a caseload of approximately 6-10 individual clients. Provided individual, group, and family therapy, and crisis management services both during and after hours for clients on clinical caseload. Collaborated with a weekly multidisciplinary treatment team to discuss and strategize treatment of all patients Treated posttraumatic stress disorder from past physical, emotional, and/or sexual abuse. Utilized cognitive processing therapy, trauma-focused cognitive behavioral therapy, cognitive behavioral therapy, dialectical behavior therapy, psychodynamic/interpersonal therapy, as well as other interventions such as metaphorical stories and mindfulness meditation. Treated substance dependence, adjustment disorders, depressive disorders, anxiety disorders, and personality disorders in an adult population. Co-led an interpersonal process group for adult women focusing on domestic violence, addiction, and forming healthy relationships. Co-lead an interpersonal process group for adults focusing on dual diagnoses of substance abuse and other mood and/or personality disorders. Worked with a multidisciplinary team to plan appropriate treatments, discuss referrals as needed, and update other providers who participate in the clients treatment. Collaborated with The Center for Women and Families in New Albany, Indiana. The Center for Women and Family offers services to survivors of intimate partner abuse or sexual abuse.

Clientele are mainly women (ages 20+) and children (all ages) who are homeless and escaping from an abusive environment. Completed emotionally and behaviorally based assessments 8/11-6/12 Jefferson County Public Schools, Chancey Elementary School, Louisville, KY Site Description: Chancey Elementary is a public elementary school in Louisville, Kentucky. A majority of its students come from low SES families. Clientele are students ranging from ages 6 to 11 who are primarily African American, Caucasian, and from low SES families. Maintained a caseload of approximately 8 to 10 individual clients. Utilized play therapy, Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, and other interventions such as metaphorical stories and mindfulness relaxation techniques Responsible for coordinating with parents and teachers about each client s therapy and progress. Completed emotionally and behaviorally based assessments. Responsible for test administration, scoring, interpreting results, developing diagnostic impressions, treatment recommendations, and feedback sessions with clients, family, and teachers. 2/11-8/11 Archdiocese of Louisville, Louisville, KY Site Description: The Archdiocese of Louisville is an organization that oversees the Catholicbased schools in Louisville and central Kentucky. Clientele are ethnically and economically diverse male and female children and adolescents, ages 9 to 16. Completed a total of 7 full-battery assessments that included emotional and behavioral testing as well as learning disability and ADHD testing. Responsible for test administration, scoring, interpreting results, developing diagnostic impressions, treatment recommendations, and feedback sessions with clients, family, and teachers. 8/10-2/11 Veteran Affairs Medical Center, Louisville, KY Site Description: The Veteran Affairs Medical Center s (VAMC) acute inpatient unit provides short-term medical and psychiatric care to veterans in the Louisville area. Clientele are individuals ranging from 24 to 62 years of age, who are geographically, economically, and psychologically diverse Completed a total of 7 full-battery assessments of emotionally and behaviorally troubled males and females residing in the VA s acute inpatient unit.

Worked alongside members of the VA staff during the acquisition and testing of these individuals. Worked with challenging adult population, often with multiple psychiatric diagnoses. CLINICAL EXPERIENCE (non-practicum) 9/13-5/14 Peer Supervisor at Spalding University, Louisville, KY Served as the peer supervisor for a graduate practicum student in her first year providing therapy at a public elementary school. Utilized developmental and relationship models of supervision to promote the development of conceptualization and assessment skills, knowledge of evidence-based treatment, and ethical awareness, as well as professional development. Participated in weekly university-based didactic training and group supervision to facilitate development of supervisory model, competence, and confidence in the provision of supervision. Maintained peer supervision notes, and utilized case presentations and videotaped peer supervision sessions to further develop supervisory model and ensure ethical treatment of peer supervisee. 7/08-7/13 Psychological Assistant at the Post Critical Incident Seminar Facilitated all mental health professionals at the seminar with participants history taking, data collection, leading small group therapy sessions, and individual Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing therapy (EMDR). The participants were police officers and their spouses from various counties around South Carolina, as well as officers from North Carolina, Virginia, Georgia, Texas, and Rhode Island, West Virginia, and Niagara Falls, Canada. All officers were involved in traumatic incidents on and/or off the job, and some struggled with pertinent grief issues. Some firefighters who experienced traumatic incidents also attended. Assisted with many seminars that took place in Columbia, South Carolina over several years, dates include: o February 2012 o July 2011 o March 2011 o June 2010 (Seminar took place in Richmond, Virginia) o February 2010 o July 2008 (Served as research assistant only) 11/2012 Psychological Assistant at the Post Deployment Seminar Facilitated all mental health professionals at the seminar with participants history taking, data collection, leading small group therapy sessions, and individual Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing therapy (EMDR).

Taught RAs how to de-escalate situations, manage emotions, and whom to contact during a crisis. Engaged in role-plays with RAs to practice newly acquired skills, and facilitated discussion. 5/10-8/10 Community Living Support Employee at REACH of Louisville, Louisville, KY Worked individually with an adolescent, female client to promote self-sufficiency. Encouraged the development and maintenance of healthy, stable relationships among her family members and people in their community. 6/08-8/08 Volunteer, Summit Behavioral Healthcare, Cincinnati, OH Observed and participated in a Dialectical Behavioral Training (DBT) class focused on distress tolerance and emotion regulation. Sparn 10 7/21/08- Research Assistant at the Post Critical Incident Seminar XII, Columbia, SC 7/23/08 Observed police officers who experienced traumatic incidents during education sessions in trauma, emotional recovery, coping, and Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR). Participated in the administration of EMDR therapy to the police officers, administration of surveys, data management, follow-up procedures and follow-up data management. Prepared and submitted two panel discussions for the South Eastern Psychological Association conference. Assisted fellow students in developing research ideas for their dissertations. 1/11-5/14 Group Member, Child/Adolescent/Family Research Interest Group, Spalding University School of Professional Psychology, Louisville, KY The Child/Adolescent/Family Research Group conducted a longitudinal study investigating the effect of dance lessons on stress and self-esteem in a group of boys living in a residential treatment center. Created and implemented research study from start to finish, including selecting measures and research design, submitting to an IRB committee, explaining the research project to the institution, and coordinating with the needs of the director.
