12 Ingredient Glossary Digestive Care Pack Throughout our products we have added ingredients that naturally improve digestion. No hidden science, just nature at its best. Look out for these ingredients within the foods: Sweet potato, Green tea, Rosemary, Seaweed, Beet pulp, Brewer s yeast and Prebiotic FOS. For more information about each individual ingredient keep reading. Skin Care Pack Most of our foods naturally have a skin care pack due to the natural, high quality ingredients we have carefully chosen. The fish oil provides Omega 3 and 6 fatty acids, as does Linseed. But the care doesn t stop there! The whole grains and potatoes we use have high levels of zinc which is vital for skin health and then we have biotin which is integral for the skin and coat to repair itself. Biotin can be found in foods such as salmon, spinach, sweet potato and yeast to name a few. Joint Care Pack Two of our products contain the joint care pack which consist of Chondroitin and Glucosamine. Specific breeds, older dogs and dogs with certain lifestyles can be affected by joint issues such as arthritis, but these two ingredients can benefit all dogs. If you read the following pages below, you can learn more about these two ingredients. Odour Control For odour control we have added Yucca extract to each of our products to help reduce the smells that come from your dog. Product Glossary Alfalfa or Lucerne Lucerne is part of the legume family, and is a good source of fibre, protein and various minerals such as iron, manganese and magnesium. Beet Pulp Beet pulp adds a great fibre source to the recipes, without the sugars. A good source of fibre can aid digestion in your dog. Brewers Yeast Is a microscopic fungus rich in B vitamins (B1, B2, B3, B5, B6, B7, and B9) and antioxidants, which promotes healthy skin, hair, eyes, and liver function in dogs. It contains all nine amino acids dogs need and therefore is an excellent protein source. Carrots By providing Beta carotene in your dog s diet, their body can produce Vitamin A which is essential for healthy skin and eyes. They are also full of antioxidants and as a source of low fat fibre, they are easily digested. Chicken Chicken, whether fresh, dried or meal tastes great and provides an easily digested protein source that is packed full of minerals, omega oils and is low in saturated fats. 12

13 Chicken Digest A freeze dried powder made up of chicken meat and fat that is added as a flavour enhancer as it smells very attractive to dogs. The protein powder also provides a valuable source of amino acids. Chicken Stock A concentrated source of vitamins, minerals and flavours that also improves the taste and desirability of the feed. Chondroitin Chondroitin is a popular joint supplement for dogs to help them deal with conditions such as arthritis. It cannot stop the advancement of joint conditions, but can ease inflammation and improve the quality of life for older dogs. Cranberry Cranberries are a low calorie food found to be high in antioxidants and Vitamin C and K. The cranberry has been linked to lower urinary tract infections and improved immune function. Fish Meal Made up of a fine powder, created by grinding whole fish and fish bones to create a dried, protein rich source of fats, vitamins and valuable minerals. Fish Oil Fish oils contain high levels of Omega-3 and Omega-6 along with important vitamins. Fish oils are recommended to aid joint problems and improve skin condition. Glucosamine Glucosamine is the basic building block of all connective tissues, including cartilage. Studies have shown that it can slow cartilage breakdown and may encourage healing, and if used with other ingredients can help ease the symptoms of joint conditions such as arthritis. Green Tea Green tea is another ingredient loaded with natural antioxidants, minerals, and vitamins. The natural tea also improves the palatability and promotes fresher breath. L-Carnitine This ingredient is a building block for the protein we give our dogs. This amino acid plays a huge role in ensuring the metabolism is healthy. Studies have shown it can also be used to help dogs with heart disorders. Linseed or Flax seed This tiny seed is an excellent source of omega 3 and 6. Linseed provides our dog food with a healthy source of these oils helping keep your dog s coat in top condition and ensuring they have those vital ingredients for growing, reproduction and a healthy immune system. Maize Sometimes referred to as a novel carbohydrate which means it is less likely to cause irritation, maize is a brilliant source of dietary fibre and packed full of protein. Maize Gluten This is simply a concentrated version of maize, for a protein packed ingredient, ideal for highly active canines. 13

14 Marjoram An aromatic herb that can help improve digestion and increase the production of enzymes that help break down food. Milk Powder Milk powder is often included in puppy foods to encourage the weaning process and to help your puppy enjoy our dry kibble. Oats Oats have been used as a food source for centuries and for good reasons too; slow releasing energy, fibre, omega 6 and beta glucans are all inside this whole grain. Oats are also full of micronutrients such as manganese, selenium and phosphorus, they are easy to digest, and an additional source of protein. Oregano Closely related to the mint family, oregano is high in antioxidants. Parsley Often used as a breath freshener or to soothe the stomach, Parsley is high in antioxidants and vitamins. Peas A super food; high in antioxidants, manganese, folate and vitamins C, K and B1. Also a great source of fibre to aid digestion. Potato This versatile tuber is a great carbohydrate energy source where the starch is converted into simple sugars, and is ideal for grain free diets. Potatoes are also rich in vitamin B6 and C. Poultry Fat Dogs need fats to survive, and as carnivores, their digestive system responds best to animal fats instead of vegetable alternatives. Canines also love the taste and smell of fat, great for fussy eaters. Prebiotic FOS Prebiotics FOS, or Fructo-oligosaccharides are short and medium chain sugar molecules that cannot be digested by your dog. They pass through the stomach to the intestines, providing food for the beneficial bacteria, and inhibiting the growth of disease causing bacteria. Prebiotic MOS MOS, or Mannan-oligosaccharides are complex carbohydrate molecules found in yeast cell walls. They promote a healthy population of micro-organisms within the digestive system to reduce the risk of harmful bacteria. Rice Whole grain rice is an easily digestible source of gluten free protein and fibre helping to fill up your dog for longer. Still providing a healthy source of nutrients including vitamin B, iron, selenium and omega-3. Rice is also low in fat, a perfect ingredient for keeping your dog fit and healthy. 14

15 Rosemary This sweet smelling herb is packed full of antimicrobials and antioxidants helping fight illness. It is also known for improving digestion, helping with the heart and repelling bugs! Sage Sage is a health promoting herb that has super levels of antioxidants. It has an anti-inflammatory compound that has been shown to aid digestive problems such as bloating or gas. Salmon Used as a primary, high quality protein source, salmon is a great ingredient. High in fats that support the immune system, it also contains Omega-3, minerals such as zinc, potassium & magnesium. Salmon is often suitable for dogs with intolerances to other protein sources. Seaweed This may seem an unusual ingredient to include in dog food but it s packed full of iodine which is vital for healthy tissues and thyroid function along with lots of other of minerals. Spinach A well-known super food; not only contains antioxidants and iron it also has vitamin K which is vital for healthy bones. Sweet Potatoes Often used to stabilise blood sugar levels, this potato has much lower starch levels than other potatoes but is high in fibre, it is also a high quality carbohydrate for our dogs. Sweet Potato is a super source of vitamin A, and also has high levels of Vitamin C and B6 along with potassium. Thyme Thyme is a natural antiseptic and has anti-bacterial properties. It can improve the palatability of food and aid digestion. Tomatoes Tomatoes are the major dietary source of the antioxidant lycopene, which has been linked to many health benefits, including reduced risk of heart disease and cancer. Tomatoes also contain vitamins C, K and Folate (B9), alongside high quality fibre. Wheat Wholegrain wheat is used in our Sporting Active blend to help improve stamina and energy throughout the busy day of a working dog s life. Yucca Yucca is a natural ingredient included because it is really good at controlling smells. Studies have shown that Yucca can contribute to making urine and faeces a little more pleasant! 15
