HC-40 columns can be used with flow rates up to 0.5 to 0.6 ml/min on a 305 x 7.8 mm column with only 400 psi of back pressure. Aqueous Mobile Phases Both columns use water as a mobile phase which simplifies eluent preparation and minimizes cost. Application #126 and #91 illustrate the difference in separation that HC-40 and HC-75 provide for an identical sample under the same separation conditions. HC-75 only separates the first four components, while the porous HC-40 column provides a more complete size exclusion type separation. Corn Syrup Conditions: Deionized Water. Isocratic. 80 C. Corn Syrup 305 x 7.8 mm HC-40 (P/N 79432)

With this type of sample most of the higher oligosaccharides have been converted to glucose or fructose to increase the corn syrup's commercial value. High Conversion Corn Syrup 7. Maltoheptaose 8. Maltooctaose + Conditions: Deionized Water. Isocratic 80 C Injection: 20 µl Application #130 and #131 are both beer separations on HC-40. During the fermentation process the majority of the simple sugars are fermented into ethanol. The small differences in unfermented carbohydrates help to give each beer its distinct flavor. Injection: 20 µl The wide applicability of HC-75 calcium form columns is shown in Applications #122 and #123 with the separation of milk product sugars and plant cell wall hydrolysates.
