1 PIGS GENERAL: UREA WARNING (only where and if appropriate/applicable) Vinegar is an effective remedy against NPN poisoning. Mix with an equal amount of water. Dose half a bottle per calf or large sheep or 2-4 bottles per head of cattle (1 bottle = 750 ml). Protect this farm feed against rain. NPN is soluble and animals drinking such a solution could be poisoned. This feed contains a NPN source - feed strictly according to feed recommendation. Do not feed this farm feed indiscriminately with other NPN containing farm feeds. Consult an animal scientist. Good quality roughage and/or grazing should always be available. When replacing a NPN-free feed with a NPN consisting feed, it is recommended to feed an adaptation period of 4-6 days, in which the feed is mixed 50/50. Good quality roughage and/or grazing should always be available.
2 GUIDELINES: PIGS: Success in the pig meat industry of South Africa depends on a number of fundamental aspects to manage a pig unit economical enough to put/convert the meat into money. Objective(s): To achieve effective economical production results (kg feed = kg meat) by using the top formulated high specification feeds of Telwiedrè. Important aspects: 1. Type of pig (genetics) 2. Type of housing (pigsty) 3. Species (sex/gender) 4. Age and purpose of pig (re-production or growth) 5. Environmental factors/impact 6. Additives to ration(s) 7. Quality of feeds and feeding methods 8. Health situation on farm(s) Type of Pig: Always keep genetics into consideration, because the ratio of growth compare to the intake of feeds (turnover of feeds) will determine your profits. It will differ from breed to breed! The ability to change/divert the supply of protein into maximum meat (pork) depends directly on the capability of the type/breed of pig to consume the feed economically. Species (sex/gender): It is very important to feed different species of animals and gender types according to recommendation(s), because the objective/aim in feeding, support, re-production and growth will differ, because the need for protein, energy and various amino acids will differ. Age and Purposeful nutrition: Always keep in mind that feeds for support/upkeeping/sustenance, also for growth, will differ. Ad lib means at pleasure (in other words:- it must be always available), during upkeeping/sustenance, at a kg per day with different feeding times (for example twice daily). Environmental factors/impact: Because the environment is very important, taking into account the huge role it plays in animal growth, it is utterly important to keep the following in mind:- - summer/winter - temperature in sheds (pigsty) [open or close]
3 - ventilation control (especially creeping and weaning sheds) - area of farming/business operations will also play a major role in the type of housing to be erected. QUALITY OF FEED PRODUCTS: The following aspects will determine the quality of feeds:- Raw materials: Here at Telwiedrè the quality structures and systems are in place to ensure that all raw materials that enter the premises, are tested by our laboratory personnel with the equipment to their disposal, to be sure that it is find suitable and up-to-standard for using in the mixing of pig feed products (as a matter of fact, in all animal feed products), before off loading. Already mixed products (finalized products): Out of every two tons of already mixed products samples are taken to be tested in the laboratory, for assurance that the standard thereof meets set quality specifications, before it leaves the mill/factory premises. Feed Additives: Additives can be used, but it usually increases the costs of the product. The benefit thereof is the improvement of nutrient digestion and more effective control of toxins. Compare the economical benefit thereof to/between better feed turnover and the costs of feed products. Health situation on farm: The health situation of the herd, as well as the presence of illnesses, will have an influence on growth and action/working against the digestion system, as well as the immune system, which will limit the intake of feed by sick and weak animals. The size of the farrow/litter (piglets), as well as wean weight of the young ones, is directly influenced by the bio-security system on the farm. SOW & BOAR MEAL/PELLETS [V14521]: The system to satisfy the modern breeding pig with the correct specification, as well as formulations, will ever remain a challenge for Telwiedrè. At Telwiedrè we always expose ourselves to the latest technology and research information to keep our products as close as possible to needs/requirements of the modern breeding sow. Always keep in mind dat breeding animals, which are too fat or too lean, will have an impact on re-production of the modern sow. The way the breeding sows have changes over the last few years, causes the adaptation of nutrient supply substantially to keep up-to-date with improving genetics. Changes like:- Bigger structure in anatomy/bodies of pigs Changes in body structures (less fat / more meat)
4 More and bigger piglets per sow Increased milk production Reduction in the utilization/eating of feed products Breeding pigs with higher stress levels Increased variety in nutrition to satisfy needs Benefits: The modern breeding pig will perform with the Telwiedrè Sow & Bore feed product to increase the profits and economics of the breeding pig, by delivering more piglets per sow and the longevity of the sow. In the feeding process of the breeding sow this product (TW Sow & Bore meal) will enhance the following function of the sow:- 1. Comply to the sustenance of the sow (do not grow thinner) 2. Needs of the uteri and development of the affixion to the uteri 3. The development/growth of the fetus to perfection 4. If feed products will comply/satisfy to the adjustment of intake of feed during later stages of gestation and the upkeeping of body conditions. 5. Increased intake during the latter part of gestation to deal with the need of organ development. Protein 146 g/kg Min Fat 42,6 g/kg Min Fibre 53,6 g/kg Max Calcium 7 g/kg Max Phosphate 6,2 g/kg Min Recommendation: It was developed to provide in the total needs of the modern breeding sow and boar. Supply this product according to recommendations, ad lib, but adjust according to body conditions during the phase of gestation/pregnancy or during the breeding program for covering/covertures/matings. Dry sows: 2,2kg until 4 weeks prior to young are casting 3,0kg up until animals are moved to the incubating shed This product contains of registered medicine. A well balanced wean ration which is essential to achieve this goal. This ration of Telwiedrè helps with adaptation, as well as with prevention of diarrhea. In combination with Telwiedrè Creeping & Weaning rations the young piglets have an advance and will adapt easier in the growing sheds. Feeding suggestions: Feed product ad lib after weaning, up until 10 weeks.
