In this guide we are going to walk you through the juicing basics and teach you advanced juicing principles. 3 The Power of Juicing One of the best ways to boost your health and begin to repair years of toxicity and damage to your body is to begin juicing. As a doctor, I have personally recommended juicing to many of my patients to overcome various illnesses as well as for preventive health measures and weight loss programs. Juicing really is incredible and as you will see in this guide it can be easy, fun and transform your life and health forever. There are many reasons you should start juicing but some of the top health Healthier skin, hair and nails Weight loss Disease prevention and reversal Boost in energy and endurance Stronger immune system Improved digestion easy way to get a large serving of fresh veggies into your diet in one easy shot. You can consume far more of these veggies and herbs with juicing than you could probably eat in the same amount of time. a super concentrated dose of electrolytes, vitamins, minerals, antioxidants and phytonutrients in just one glass. The amount of nutrients you can get in one glass of juice can be anywhere from 5-10 servings of fruits and vegetables! Today, most people don t get the recommended daily intake of 6-8 servings of fruits and vegetables per day and because of that they are - 3 -

4 take your body from nutritional bankruptcy to having a wealth of nutrients in your system that promote healing. Also, most of us get very little raw food in our diets and have enzyme foods are high in enzymes, vitamins and minerals and have healing compounds most of us are missing. One of the biggest pioneers of promoting raw foods and juicing was a physician by the name of Max Gerson. He developed Gerson Therapy which has helped thousands of people overcome chronic illnesses like tuberculosis and cancer by juicing vegetables. He recommended his patients drink between 5-13 glasses of fresh vegetable juice a day. Obviously, there are many reasons we should be juicing and now that Juicing vs. Blending One of the most common questions I get is what is the difference between juicing and using a blender? A smoothie is made using a blender and usually contains fruit and a small amount of vegetables and and healthy fats. Juice and pulp out of the way, your body is able to digest many more micronutrients

5 What Kind of Juicer Should You Get? There are two main types of juicers available today which are: Centrifugal Juicer and Cold Press (Masticating) Juicer. A Centrifugal Juicer is your most cost effective option and what I recommend for anyone starting out. It uses a higher speed to extract the juice and you don t get quite as much juice as a cold pressed and may lose a few nutrients but it s not too big of a difference. A Cold Pressed Masticating Juicer is what you d see at a juicing shop or a large store like Whole Foods. These juicers are incredible but are much more expensive. My recommendation is to buy a mid level juicer that is easy to use and clean. For that I recommend the same juicer I have at home which is a stainless steel Breville juicer. You can get this on Amazon and the reviews are excellent. Ready Set Juice! Before you get started, let me give you 5 juicing tips. #1 USE PESTICIDE FREE VEGETABLES Whenever possible, it s best to buy organic. This is especially important when juicing because you are getting a more concentrated dose. I would go for organic with: celery, kale, apples, spinach, collards, romaine lettuce, and cucumber (unless you peel the skin then it s OK). #2 START WITH CUCUMBERS AND CARROTS Some juices taste great and others can end up very bitter. So if recommend beginning with a mix of cucumber, carrot and lemon. Then for your second juice, I would add celery, a small piece of ginger and a handful of spinach. As you continue, start adding in parsley, kale and other vegetables

6 #3 STICK WITH VEGETABLES RATHER THAN FRUIT Even though I think we should have fruit in our diet, I don t think juicing fruit is your best option. Fruits are higher in sugar so they are active, I think juicing some fruits in small amounts is OK. Also, you can juice as many lemons and limes as you would like, and the second best fruits to juice include grapefruit, cranberries and green apples. #4 DRINK FRESH OR STORE PROPERLY Ideally, all juices should be made fresh then consumed immediately herbs have been juiced they can quickly lose their enzymes. However, if you are being wise with your time, you may make a batch of juice to drink immediately and have some leftover to consume later that day. I do this often. Make sure you store the juice in a glass airtight container and drink within 24 hours. #5 CLEAN YOUR JUICER If you get the right type of juicer it doesn t take long to clean, maybe 2-3 minutes total. So you will want to clean your juicer within 10 minutes after making juice. Also, make sure to clean your juicer properly and thoroughly or mold could grow and vegetable debris can harden in certain areas making it harder to clean

7 Customize Your Juice As you probably know, certain vegetables, herbs and fruits can and herbs to suit your individual needs. For instance, if you really want to cleanse your liver your body needs: B vitamins Vitamin C Beta-carotene Vitamin E N-acetyl cysteine In that case, you would want to include: Asparagus Ginger Celery Lemon Cilantro Another common goal in juicing is to make your body more alkaline. 8 Juice Yield to juicing is how much juice does each food yield. While I ve got to be honest, I personally just wing it and my juice comes out different every time, for many people they like to have more exact numbers so here are the yields for common juiced foods: Bases Carrots (8 medium) = 1 cup Cucumber (1 medium) = 3/4 cup Celery (1 bunch) = 1 1/4 cup Beets (1 medium) = 1/3 cup Kale (2 bunches) = 1/2 cup Lemon (1 large) = 1/4 cup Ginger (1 inch knob) = 1 tbsp Parsley/Cilantro (1 bunch) = 1/8 cup than others. So when making your juice at home you want to always have a base vegetable to juice. For most, celery, cucumber and carrots - 8 -

9 Top 13 Foods to Juice 1. CARROTS Help stimulate liver function and detoxify that they are loaded with beta-carotene, which can be converted by the liver into vitamin A to support your eyes and nervous system. Also, because beta-carotene is such a powerful antioxidant it s been shown to protect the body from UV radiation and slows aging of the skin. A 2011 study found conclusive evidence that the phytonutrients in carrots can play a role in treating cancers including leukemia. Carrot juice is the most used juice in the Gerson Protocol for good reason. Others studies have found that the juice of carrots can help cure Alzheimer s and irritable bowel disease. 2. CUCUMBER Cucumber is a powerful natural diuretic that supports cleansing of kidney s, urinary tract, pancreas and liver. Cucumber juice contains the enzyme erepsin which helps in the digestion of protein and reduces Cucumbers are unique in that they contain silica which thickens your hair, strengthens your nails and support healthy skin. It s because the silica and other nutrients in cucumbers give you healthy glowing skin and by juicing them you can get an even more concentrated dose of those nutrients

CELERY Celery juice is a nutrient dense liquid and one of the most hydrating foods in the world. It is also highly alkalizing which means it balances the body s ph and creates an environment where disease of the body cannot survive. Celery juice is packed with electrolytes like potassium, sodium, calcium and magnesium which improve cellular cleansing. Also, it s been proven to clear the body of excess uric acid so drinking celery juice is probably the most effective treatment for gout. In recent studies, celery has been proven to: lower cholesterol aid in digestion lower blood pressure eliminate gallstones and kidney stones As you can see, celery is an incredible food you will want to include in your juicing regime. 4. ASPARAGUS This unique green vegetable has been proven to regulate blood sugar levels and has some serious immune boosting nutrients. Asparagus juice contains high levels of vitamin C, vitamin E and glutathione which is known as your bodies master antioxidant. Because of these three powerful compounds, asparagus is especially

BEETS Beets are known in the juicing world as a to boost the health of your circulatory system. Research has shown that beets increase your bodies production of NO 2 which increases energy and endurance. Beet greens are extremely high in vitamin K, iron and calcium which make it great for heart and bone health. 6. BROCCOLI Broccoli has more vitamin C than an orange and is one of the most chromium rich super foods in the world. Chromium has been proven to be one of the most effective nutrients at balancing out blood sugar levels so broccoli juice could be the perfect liquid for diabetics. Broccoli is part of the cruciferous vegetable family and is high in a compound called Indole-3-Carbinol which has been shown to reduce breast cancer risk and naturally balance hormones like estrogen. Broccoli is also packed with selenium and its high vitamin C content makes it a great juice for boosting immunity, balancing blood sugar, and healing your hormones
