2 INJURY CARE If an injury does occur you should be aware of the proper and immediate means or treatment Some of the injuries can equirer merely self treatment Apply first aid as soon as it happens Once you have treated it the healing process will begin ALSO KNOW AS RICE- REST, ICE, COMPRESSION, ELEVATION
3 THE STEPS TO USING THE TERM RICE Ice Stop using the injured area as soon as you experience pain Apply ice to the injured are for 15 to 20 minutes several times a day for 48 hours When icing it reduces swelling and goes back to normal body temperatures Compression Use compression on the injured area with bandage between icings If the bandage is wrapped to tightly it can lose its colors or loss of normal tempters/ sensation

5 THE PAIN OF BEING A DANCER Cramps A cramp is a painful muscle that can last any where form sev eral seconds to sev eral hours To help keep away cramps drink lots of water freely and increase you potassium food such as tomatoes, bananas and orange juice Cramps are located in the back of lower leg or the back of the upper leg Cramps are reliable to fatigue muscle, tightness or fluid, salt Muscle strains This could be counted as muscle pulling or damaged muscle tissue Scar tissue forms damages in the are and I seems like it is pulling all the time Tissues attach muscles to bones and making blood supply surrounding smaller than the muscles Patellar tendinitis Small jumps and lauding can causing pain, tenderness blow the knee cap Thye aching of the knees apparent at the begging of a workout and disappears after warm-up

7 COMMON DANCE INJURIES SYMPTOMS MUSCLE CRAMP- painful spasmodic contraction usually felt in back of the leg and front of the thigh MUSCLE STRAIN muscle tenderness and possible swelling SHIN SPLINTS- pain on anterior aspect of lower leg possible swelling. PLANTAR FASCIITIS- Chronic pain and inflammation to the foot especially the heel. Longitudinal arch may also feel pain. ANKLE SPRAIN-Swelling inflammation point tenderness swelling. PATELLAR TENDINITIS- Pain tenderness and inflammation below knee cap. STRESS FRACTURE- Chronic pain and swelling usually occurs in the shins or ball of ffoot. CAUSE Fatigue muscle tightness fluid salt or potassium imbalance from potassium imbalance from profuse sweating Sudden contraction of muscle and poor flexibility. Jumping on hard surfaces improper landing muscle imbalance Overuse by putting too much stress on foot. Unstable landings rolling ov er on ankle. Repetitiv e jumping and landing activ ites Repetitiv e jumping and landing TREATMENT Gently stretch or massage area. The symptoms can cause, swelling are in sprain, dislocations ankle sprain STRESS FRACTURE. The shins or the ball of the food, inv olving one or both of the small sesamoid bones located in this area of the foot.. When you have injure you should get first aid treatment and apply the treatment immediately after injury occurs.. The injury causes chronic pain and swelling.
