3 convenience Same-day Appointments When unexpected illnesses occur, the Great Falls Clinic Pediatric Department offers same-day appointments. Each day, our Pediatricians leave a part of their schedules open to accommodate patients who need an immediate appointment. Of course, parents still have the option to schedule an appointment for their child in advance. Pediatric Walk-in Clinic Pediatric Walk-in Clinics are an option for patients who are unable to see their primary care provider during regular Clinic hours due to an emergency or other special circumstance. For acute illnesses, our Pediatricians offer extended weekday walk-in hours from 8:00am - 9:00am and 5:00pm - 6:30pm at our Main Clinic, th Street South, Pediatric Weekend Walk-in Clinic Pediatricians are available on Saturdays from 8:00am - noon and Sundays from 1:00pm - 4:00pm for walk-in services. Our Pediatric Weekend Walk-in Clinic is located at our Main Clinic in the Immediate Care Center, th Street South, Immunization Clinic Immunization (vaccination) is a way of creating immunity to certain diseases by using small amounts of a killed or weakened microorganism which causes the particular disease. The risks of vaccinations are small compared with the health risks associated with the diseases they re intended to prevent. The Great Falls Clinic pediatric department is pleased to provide an immunization schedule for your child recommended by the American Academy of Pediatrics. our team The Great Falls Clinic believes in the team approach to healthcare. We offer a collaborative team of healthcare providers, allowing your child to receive the highest quality care available. Our team consists of: Neonatologists Nurse Practitioners Pediatric Physical Therapists Pediatric Specialists Pediatricians RNs, LPNs, CPNPs and support staff Speech & Language Therapists
4 pediatric specialties Behavioral & Developmental Pediatrics Our Developmental and Behavioral Pediatrician specializes in the care of children with extreme behavior problems, autistic and autistic spectrum disorders and developmental delays. This includes assessment of developmental issues, coordination of appropriate services and use of medication if necessary. Pediatric Allergy Our board certified Allergist provides services to pediatric patients with specialized testing needed for allergies. Our Allergist is trained in the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of immune system problems including hay fever and conjuctivitis, severe reactions to foods, insect stings and medications (anaphylaxis), asthma, eczema and contact dermatitis, hives, angioedema as well as inherited immunodeficiency diseases. Pediatric Cancer Care We are pleased to provide Pediatric Cancer Care services through the Great Falls Clinic Pediatric Department and Clinic Cancer Care. Our commitment to pediatric oncology patients and their families is supported by a team of medical staff and healthcare professionals who are highly experienced in addressing the special needs of children and their families during their cancer journey. Monitoring the late effects of childhood cancer therapy is also provided. When a child is diagnosed with cancer, a special network of support is required, which is why Clinic Cancer Care has partnered with Seattle Children s Hospital. This partnership allows us to provide your child with the best treatments available. Your child may receive initial care at Seattle Children s Hospital, but then return home for continued treatment locally at Clinic Cancer Care. There is direct input and communication between the Seattle team and Great Falls team to ensure that all aspects of patient management and family support are offered on a continuum. Children receiving cancer care through other cancer centers are easily enrolled into our program. The Pediatric Cancer Care team offers: Pediatricians who work closely with the Clinical Director of Pediatric Hematology/Oncology at Seattle Children s Hospital to assure a high level of coordinated care. A Radiation Oncologist with pediatric training at St. Jude Children s Research Hospital in Memphis, Tennessee and pediatric experience in Great Falls. A highly skilled nursing staff with Pediatric Oncology certification and ongoing education through Seattle Children s Hospital. Anesthesia and conscious sedation available on-site at Clinic Cancer Care for special procedures and imaging procedures. A social work team with pediatric intensive care and pediatric oncology experience available for patients and family. Support groups for families of pediatric patients. Communication between Pediatrics, Clinic Cancer Care, Seattle Children s Hospital and Seattle Cancer Care Alliance. An environment where the patient and family remain our top priority.
5 Pediatric Cardiology Our board certified Pediatric Cardiologist specializes in children with heart disease, including diagnosis and noninvasive treatments. If invasive treatment is needed, our Pediatric Cardiologist will coordinate that care with well established children s centers. He treats patients of all ages, whether it is a baby in utero who has been diagnosed by fetal ultrasound or an adult patient who has been monitored since childhood for a cardiac defect. Services are not limited to an office in Great Falls. Pediatric Cardiology outreach care is available to patients in Bozeman, Browning, Helena and Butte. Pediatric Endocrinology Specialized care for growth, diabetes, thyroid and other disorders is provided by our endocrinology team. A Great Falls Clinic pediatrician with special interest in endocrinology and a Great Falls Clinic board certified Adult Endocrinologist practice locally. Regular visits from an out-of-state board certified Pediatric Endocrinologist compliment our services being offered. Because complex endocrine disorders are best managed by well-educated patients and families, our team of highly trained nurses, a diabetic educator and a pump trainer are committed to achieving this goal. Specialty Care The Great Falls Clinic is dedicated to excellence. Many of the specialists in our departments of family medicine, surgery, urology, radiology, orthopaedics, neurology, radiation oncology, optometry, podiatry and sleep medicine focus on meeting the needs of children and adolescents. Please discuss how these specialists can meet the needs of your child with your provider. Neonatology Our board certified Neonatologists offer specialized care for newborn infants who are either premature or ill at the time of delivery. The Great Falls Clinic uses sophisticated technology to assist in the growth and development of these special infants. Our Neonatologists are based out of Benefis Healthcare s Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. While they primarily serve North Central Montana, they treat patients from as far away as North Dakota and Canada. Our Neonatologists study newborn outcomes through an international network and work with your primary care provider to coordinate care after your infant is discharged from the hospital. Pediatric Hospitalist The Great Falls Clinic Pediatric Department is the only Montana pediatric practice to offer Pediatric Hospitalist services to patients. Working with your primary care provider, our Pediatric Hospitalist cares for children who have been admitted to the hospital. Throughout your child s hospital stay, the Pediatric Hospitalist will update your primary care provider of his/her condition. When your child is discharged from the hospital, our Pediatric Hospitalist provides an overview of your child s hospital stay and detailed instructions for any necessary follow-up care. Pediatric Psychology Child & Adolescent Psychiatric Services Pediatric Psychology and Child & Adolescent Psychiatric Services are available. These include psychological and neuropsychological testing and evaluation. In addition, a full range of counseling/psychotherapy, behavior management, biofeedback and other treatments are offered for the pediatric patient as appropriate. Pediatric Pulmonology Our Pediatric Pulmonologist specializes in the treatment of acute and chronic respiratory conditions, asthma, allergy and cystic fibrosis. As the only Pediatric Pulmonologist in Montana, he travels to Kalispell, Missoula, Helena, Butte, Billings and Havre to visit patients during regularly-scheduled outreach clinics in addition to maintaining an active office practice in Great Falls. He also regularly collaborates with the Denver Children s Hospital to care for patients and their families with cystic fibrosis.
6 other pediatric services & programs Well-Child Care Well-Child Care visits provide vaccinations, sports physicals and an opportunity for your pediatrician to assess the physical growth and development of your child. Developmental milestones are also evaluated. These services are available at our Main Clinic and at the Northwest Clinic. Speech & Language Therapy Our Pediatric Speech Therapist specializes in feeding, swallowing, communication functions and failure to thrive concerns, and is also available to treat communication problems such as stuttering, articulation disorders, voice and cognitive communication disorders, language disorders and aphasia. Our Pediatric Department also has augmentative and alternative communication technology available to assist individuals who have limited speech or are unable to speak. Physical Therapy Physical Therapy services are available in the Pediatric Department of the Great Falls Clinic. Our therapist specializes in children s motor development, musculoskeletal status, sensorimotor function and environmental adaptation. Fabrication of orthotics and adaptive equipment is also available to patients who would benefit from this type of assistance. In addition, we care for children with cerebral palsy, spina bifida, developmental delay, gait abnormalities, hypotonia and neuromuscular disease. Conscious Sedation Services/Sedated MRIs and CTs The Great Falls Clinic is dedicated to making our patients as comfortable as possible. Sedation is often needed for specialized procedures in order to obtain the best possible MRI or CT scan images. Our anesthesiologists, pediatricians and specially trained nurses coordinate their efforts to make this service available to our pediatric patients. Children s Special Health Services The Great Falls Clinic works cooperatively with Children s Special Health Services, a Montana state agency, to bring specialized pediatric services to our community. These services include rheumatology, pediatric endocrinology, pediatric nephrology, pediatric neurology, genetics, metabolic clinic and craniofacial clinic. This project is funded (in part) under a contract with the Montana Department of Public Health and Human Services. The statements herein do not necessarily reflect the opinion of the Department. 7 WWAMI Program WWAMI is a medical student exchange program based out of the University of Washington and stands for Washington, Wyoming, Alaska, Montana and Idaho. The program offers third-year medical students an opportunity to spend six weeks in Great Falls and experience firsthand what it means to be a pediatrician. The students also get to experience what it is like to practice medicine away from a large city with a big teaching hospital. The Great Falls Clinic Pediatric Department has been a part of this program since contact us For more information about the Great Falls Clinic Pediatric Department or to schedule an appointment, please call or visit Great Falls Clinic th Street South Great Falls, MT Reach Out and Read Pediatricians and family medicine physicians at the Great Falls Clinic are participating in Reach Out and Read (ROR), a national model for early literacy. This program has made books and advice about the importance of reading a routine part of pediatric well-child care for hundreds of children growing up in Montana. The Reach Out and Read program builds on the special relationship between parents and medical providers to bring books and literacy advice to families with young children. The program model is based on medical research that has shown an increase in language scores for young children participating in the program. Books are provided to every child between the ages of 6 months to 5 years during their regular well-child appointments. In addition, throughout each day volunteers read a variety of age-appropriate books in the Pediatric Department waiting room at the Great Falls Clinic Main Clinic. Reach Out and Read is sponsored by the Great Falls Clinic, Junior League of Great Falls and the Great Falls Public School system. On-Site Services For your convenience, each Clinic location that offers pediatric care also provides on-site laboratory and x-ray services.
