1 The Mulligan Concept In Manual Therapy ~ NAGS, SNAGS and MWM..~ Presented by: Gaetano G. Milazzo BSc(UNSW) GDPhysio(APA) GDManipTher (Curtin) MBiomedE(UNSW) Consultant Manipulative Physiotherapist This is a practical workshop designed to introduce and give the therapist detailed training in the unique physical examination and manual therapy procedures developed by Mr Brian Mulligan (Manipulative Physiotherapist New Zealand). The workshop will present the Mulligan Concepts and provide a learning environment where the therapist can train and practice to examine and deliver appropriate manual therapy techniques for both spinal and peripheral joint articulations. Course Expectations At the conclusion of this course each participant is expected to 1. Have a good understanding of the theories and principles of the Mulligan Concept and how it is applied to the examination and treatment for spinal and peripheral Joint dysfunction. 2. Be able to examine, and correctly administer appropriate Mulligan techniques (and apply taping where required) to the following regions Cervical spine Thoracic spine Shoulder Elbow Wrist / Hand Lumbar spine Hip Knee Ankle / Foot 3. Be able to instruct patients in the self mobilisation treatment for the cervical, thoracic and lumbar spines 4. Correctly apply taping when indicated to maintain positional correction and assist patients with self mobilisation 5. Be able to apply Mulligan techniques in relation to specific clinical presentations. 2 Course Contents (8-9 March 2010 for 2 days): 1. Introduction Assumptions 1. Good knowledge of anatomy 2. Good knowledge of Biomechanics 3. Good knowledge of pathology 4. Familiar with the contraindications to manual therapy 5. Possess basic manual therapy skills Anatomy (peripheral and spinal)+ terminology overview Mulligan Concepts: Theory, terminology and principles Basic biomechanics of articular motion and manual therapy treatments 2. Cervical spine NAGS SNAGS Neurodynamic Mobilisations Self SNAGS Fist traction 3. Thoracic spine NAGS SNAGS Reverse SNAGS Belt traction Self SNAGS 4. Shoulder complex MWM gleno-humeral and AC joint Elevation Hand behind back Exercise 5. Elbow MWM humero-radio-ulnar and humero-ulnar, Exercise 6. Wrist/hand MWM radio-ulnar (distal), metacarpals, Phalanges Self mobilisation 7. Neck / Arm Spine mobilisation with arm movements Self exercise 8. Some Clinical syndromes Headaches Vertigo Tennis Elbow Participants will receive a certificate from the Mulligan Concept Teacher's Association (MCTA) certifying that they have attended and completed the required content for each course Upper Quadrant and Lower Quadrant. These certificates are recognized internationally. Participants who complete these 2 courses will need to complete follow-up course to be eligible to take the exam. For those who have successfully completed of the examination process, are recognized as Certified Mulligan Practitioners (CMP).

Ankle / Foot MWM tibio-fibular (distal), talo-crus Belt technique for plantar flexion 6. Back / Leg Spine mobilisation with leg movements Self exercise Bent Knee SLR 7.
