2 INTRODUCTION COURSES Introduction to Massage: 78 (1 day) This beginners' massage course is designed for anyone from complete novices to enthusiastic amateurs. The 1 day intensive workshop will cover the main techniques of body massage and all theoretical underlying principles. The objective of the workshop is to allow you to be confident in your touch and understand the nature of what you are doing and to be confident in treating family and friends. The predominance is on practical rather than theory so the course is very hands on and as well as performing the therapy you will also receive massage. This course is ideal preparation for eligibility to the VTCT Level 3 in Body Massage or the VTCT Level 3 in Aromatherapy. On successful completion you will be awarded an Academy Certificate. What you will study: The history of massage, Basic benefits of massage, Consultation process, Basic contra-indications, Preparation for treatment, After treatment care, Full body massage techniques (Full Body routine provided to take away). Entry qualifications: There are no formal entry requirements for this course. Course Date SUN IM JUN Jun 15 SUN IM JULY July 20 Introduction to Reflexology: 78 (1 day) This introduction course offers a taster to Reflexology, hence allowing you to learn about the therapy and how to perform a basic treatment to see if it is for you, without having to commit yourself to a fully accredited course. By the end of the course you will be able you to perform a pre & post reflexology foot massage & basic reflexology techniques on family and friends. The predominance is on practical rather than theory so the course is very hands on and as well as performing the therapy you will also receive treatment. This course is ideal preparation for eligibility to the VTCT Level 3 in Reflexology. On successful completion you will be awarded an Academy Certificate. There are no formal assessments on this course. What you will study: The history of reflexology, Benefits & effects, Contra-indications, Consultation process, Preparation for treatment, After treatment care, Basic foot massage routine, Basic Reflexology techniques. Acceptable entry qualifications: There are no formal entry requirements for this course. VTCT ( awards are QCA (Quality Assurance Agency) regulated. If at any point you wish to join the FHT (Federation of Holistic Therapists) you will need to ensure your practitioner level qualifications are QCA regulated. Any insurer will insure VTCT courses. Level 3 Certificate in Indian Head Massage: 220 SPECIAL OFFER: JUNE 10 discount Plus registration, assessment & exam fees*: 100 (New VTCT) 84 (Existing VTCT) 4 days or 7 evenings, plus final 2 hour examination Indian Head Massage is a relaxing form of massage as it helps relieve muscle tension in the neck, shoulders and scalp. It offers an aid to headaches, sinusitis, eyestrain, helps to promote hair growth, improves blood and lymph flow to the upper body, promotes relaxation, better sleep, sharper thinking and will harmonise the bodies Chakras. IHM is performed fully clothed and is carried out on the upper back, shoulders, back of the neck, arms, scalp and face. This course is suitable for those wishing to qualify as a professional therapist and gain insurance. The course will cover a full working sequence of Indian Head Massage alternatively referred to as Champissage and the related theory including anatomy of the head, neck and shoulders. Course content: History, origins, benefits & effects, contra-indications, therapist, client preparation & after care, anatomy & physiology of treatment areas, IHM routine, balancing the chakras. 3 VTCT Level 3 Diploma in Body Massage: 480 SPECIAL OFFER: JUNE 30 DISCOUNT Plus registration, assessment & exam fees*: 146 (New VTCT) 130 (Existing VTCT) 7 days or 13 evenings, plus final 3 hour examination Full Body massage uses oil or talc and the massage covers the arms, legs, shoulders, neck, face, abdomen and back. Massage strokes include effleurage, petrissage, tapotement, frictions, vibrations and passive techniques. This course is suitable for those wishing to qualify as a professional therapist and gain insurance and for those who wish to move into more advanced courses eg Sports Massage etc. It is also suitable for those who have a genuine interest in taking the basic understanding of Massage further. Through the study and application of aromatic extracts of plants using special massage techniques, healing, relaxation and a general improvement in well-being can be achieved. This course is suitable for those wishing to qualify as a professional aromatherapist but also for those who have a genuine interest in taking the basic understanding of the therapy further. This qualification is supported by the Aromatherapy Council (AC) so for those aromatherapists who hold this award and are a member of one of the associations within the AC, they will be permitted to state they are AC Recognised. Course content: History of aromatherapy, preparation for treatment, consultation & contra-indications, safety in aromatherapy, associated hazards, use of 23 essential oils, use of 8 carrier oils, diagnostic blending, basic principles of organic chemistry, absorption through the skin, anatomy & physiology, effects on all body s systems, aromatherapy massage routine. The application of pressure to the hands, feet or ears relaxes muscles and improves blood circulation. Energy is restored to the body and ultimately reflexology improves its overall condition. Using thumb, finger and hand techniques, pressure is applied to specific areas to alleviate common ailments such as headaches, back pain, colds and stress. This course is suitable for those wishing to qualify as a professional reflexologist but also for those who have a genuine interest in taking the basic understanding of the therapy further. 4 VTCT Level 3 Diploma in Infant & Child Massage (Instructors Course): 300 Plus registration, assessment & exam fees*: 153 (New VTCT) 137 (Existing VTCT) 4 days, inc. examination. This course is designed for massage therapists, midwives, health visitors and other practitioners involved in baby care that have an interest in massage. It will cover a brief history of baby massage and relevant theory relating to instructing on baby massage procedures and massage techniques. On completion candidates will be able to conduct classes for parents to use massage techniques to reinforce bonding, improve joint movement and soothe fractious babies as well as offer infant massage to infant clients (legislation re: minors must be adhered to). You will also be required to purchase a doll or baby mannequin for training & case studies. Course content: Methodology and procedures for baby massage; massage movements - effleurage, petrissage, stretching, gentle joint movement specifically for babies; lubrications- cream, oil, lotion; demonstration techniques- groups, individuals; understanding outcomes of treatments; contra-indications and benefits; after care and contra- actions; relevant anatomy & physiology, massage techniques, relevant anatomy & physiology, case studies, supported home study. Acceptable entry qualifications: This qualification is suitable for those who already hold a recognised qualification in massage or are a qualified health professional eg health visiting nurse, paediatric nurse or midwife. You must also hold a CRB Certificate or gain this before the final exam date. Mode Month & Ref. Practical & Theory Dates Assessment Dates WEEKDAY Mon & Tues JULY Jul Aug 18 & Sept 22 VTCT Level 3 Certificate in Anatomy, Physiology & Pathology for Complementary Therapies: 80 Plus registration, assessment & exam fees*: 100 (New VTCT) 84 (Existing VTCT) This course intended for those who either have already gained a VTCT qualification but wish to update their Anatomy & Physiology knowledge and gain the full VTCT Diploma in this subject, or those wishing to gain the A&P qualification for their own interest or intended entry to other holistic therapy courses. course content: This is a non-taught course. CMA will provide comprehensive notes PDF containing all relevant bodily systems for study purposes. Course assessment is done via home based assignments and a 1 hour multiple choice exam paper (36 questions) which is done through attendance at CMA on one of the exam dates, see below. Acceptable entry qualifications: There are no entry qualifications for this course. Exam Days: 2014 May 30 June 12 June 21 Aug 7 Aug 21 Sept 4 POSTGRADUATE COURSES & WORKSHOPS Hopi Ear Candling Course: 100 (1 day) SPECIAL OFFER: June 90 This course is recognised by FHT for 10 CPPD points. Hopi Ear Candling, also known as Thermo-auricular Therapy, is a completely natural therapy and has come from the Native American Hopi Indians of Northern Arizona to the Western world. This now popular therapy is known for its physical benefits in treating ear and sinus problems. Course content: How Hopi candles work, who can be treated, ear conditions & contra-indications, benefits of Hopi candling, equipment & procedure, anatomy of the ear, candle routine and sinus massage. Acceptable entry qualifications: There are no formal entry requirements for this course, however, it would be preferable to be a practising therapist and be a holder of a relevant massage qualification or working towards one. In order to claim the FHT CPPD points & add to their insurance you must hold an accredited Full Body Massage qualification which is QCA regulated (ie VTCT, ITEC, NVQ or one recognised by the GCMT. With FHT this therapy is listed as Thermal Auricular Therapy. We are able to do this course as a 121 basis for VAT on a date to suit. You would need to organise a client to work on. Day Month & Ref. Course Date THURS JUN Jun 5 Hot Stone Massage Course: 100 (1 day) SPECIAL OFFER: June 90 This course is recognised by FHT for 10 CPPD points. You will learn about larva stones, how to perform a stone massage and how to integrate stone massage into your other techniques. This is an advanced massage master class and therefore students must already be qualified in and practicing massage. Course content: History of Hot Stone Therapy, About basalt larva stones, Effects of the therapy, Contraindications, Safety points, Preparation for treatment and Hot Stone routine. Acceptable entry qualifications: You must be a practising therapist and be a holder of a relevant massage qualification. Course Date FRI JUN Jun 27 Pregnancy Massage Course: 100 (1 day) SPECIAL OFFER: July 90 Pregnancy massage can help to reduce stress, decrease swelling in the arms and legs, and can also help to relieve aches and pains in muscles and joints. It is a popular complementary therapy during pregnancy for back pain, when choices for pain relief, such as medication, are often limited. Not only can massage be physically beneficial, but the human touch can be comforting and provide emotional support during pregnancy. Massage therapy has also been found to reduce anxiety and depression. Course content: Benefits of pregnancy massage, positioning of the pregnant client, equipment required, techniques for relevant massage, pregnancy massage routine. Course Date THURS JULY July 3 Deep Tissue Massage Techniques Course: 100 (1 day) SPECIAL OFFER: JUNE course 90 Deep tissue massage is a technique that focuses on the deeper layers of muscle tissue. It aims to release the chronic patterns of tension in the body through slow strokes and deep finger pressure on the contracted areas, either following or going across the muscular fibres, tendons and fascia. Course content: This purely practical one day course is designed for those already qualified in massage. The aim is to help you develop advanced massage techniques which will enable you to be more confident and specific in your treatments. This will open up your client base by being able to offer more than a relaxation massage, and you will be able to treat clients with muscular tenderness and lack of flexibility. Included is warm up techniques for deep tissue massage, deep tissue techniques for the back, arms, legs and foot using parts of the body other than the hands such as knuckles, elbows and forearms and spinal rotation technique. Course Date SUN JUNE June 1 FRIDAY AUG Aug 8 Lymphatic Drainage Massage Course: 100 (1 day) SPECIAL OFFER: JUNE course 90 This course carries 5 CPPD points by the FHT. Manual Lymphatic Drainage Massage is a gentle yet effective technique to stimulate the body s fluid circulation and to detoxify. This can have a profound effect on the weight, shape and energy levels of some clients and although anyone can be affected by retained lymph, this treatment is particularly well suited to those who are less active. Known to help with cellulite, puffiness, swollen joints, scarring, bags under eyes, eczema, stress, poor immunity, sluggish tissue regeneration, migraines, run down etc. course content Contra-indications, Benefits & Effects of Lymphatic Drainage, Preparation of Client and Consultation, Full Lymphatic Draining Routine, Contra-actions, After-care. Entry qualifications: You must be a holder of a body massage qualification. WEDNESDAY JUNE June 18 TRAINING ROOM HIRE Training room for guest tutors & other training organisations. Refreshments and massage couches are provided, all other equipment will be provided by the user. We are able to offer a booking service and advertise courses on our website and in our prospectus, please ask on enquiry. 6 *VTCT REGISTRATION FEES EXPLAINED Course registration fees may differs for each VTCT course. You will see that each course has 2 registration fee amounts stated, this is due to the fact that that if you are ALREADY registered with VTCT (ie you have done a VTCT course previously) you will not be charged the VTCT lifetime registration fee as it is a one off fee. If you are new to VTCT courses then this will be included in your fee charge. Hence we state both options: New VTCT & Existing VTCT. You will require a VTCT Record of Assessment Book for your VTCT course, in which you must record all your evidence. You may either choose to pay 10 for one or you may receive this via and print your own copy at no charge. TERMS & CONDITIONS To book please complete a booking form & return with full payment for all Introduction Courses and Workshops and/or 100 deposit for all VTCT Courses. Places cannot be confirmed without a booking form and payment/deposit. Full balance payment should be made at least 30 working days (1 Month & Ref.) prior to your course date, unless you are on the Month & Ref.ly payment plan. Please check your invoice for payment details. All payment options are listed at the top of the booking form. All personal information received will be treated in the strictest confidence, and in full accordance with the Data Protection Act, 1998 PAYMENT PLAN TERMS & CONDITIONS A 20 + VAT fee will be charged for this option, which spreads the total invoice over 3 Month & Ref. (4 for the VTCT L4 Sports Massage course). Invoices will specify payments dates and we can only process this option through recurring payments using a credit or debit card (the same card used for the 1st payment), this is to ensure payments are made on time and therefore do not attract a late penalty fee. COURSE ATTENDANCE & CANCELLATION POLICY (signed acceptance on booking form) THIS IS STRICTLY APPLIED All deposits (VTCT 180, Intros 36, Workshops 54 incl. of vat) are non-refundable, unless Orchid Indulgence Ltd cancels the course. Course bookings cancelled at least 30 working days prior to course date; full payment minus deposit will be refunded or waived, unless VTCT registrations for your courses have been made, then this amount will be deducted from the refund (these registrations will be held by the company for future course completion or can be transferred to another college on request). Course bookings cancelled between working days prior to course date, 50% payment minus deposit will be refunded, unless VTCT registrations for your courses have been made, then this amount will be deduced from the refund (these registrations will be held by the company for future course completion or transferred to another college on request. Course bookings cancelled less than 18 working days prior to the course date, 100% of the course & registration fees (registration at this point will have been competed) will be charged for loss of business and incurred costs. Deferment or Transfers: the company does NOT allow under any circumstances course transfers, this also applies to 1 day courses. Should you wish to transfer this will be at our discretion and charges will apply: VTCT courses: 120. Intros: 24. Workshops: 36, all subject to VAT. Please contact us. If the candidate requests a deferment/transfer by agreement, the companies refund policy will crease to apply as the candidate will, by this agreement, have waived the right to cancel a transferred place. No refunds therefore, will apply under any future circumstances. If the Academy cancels the course the candidate has transferred to due to insufficient numbers (any course which the candidate has transferred too must have 2 additional bookings to run) this candidate will be able to roll over to the next available date of choice. Not under any circumstances, will course fees in full or in part be refunded for courses which are started but not completed.
