A Journal of Radix International Educational and Research Consortium RIJS RADIX INTERNATIONAL JOURNAL OF RESEARCH IN SOCIAL SCIENCE A STUDY OF FRUSTRATION AMONG B.ED TEACHER TRAINEES DR. ARUNA CHAUHAN Assistant Professor RIMT College of Education ABSTRACT Today we find a mad race of competition around us that result in frustration especially among young generation. Our youth is facing the problem of unemployment even after the completion of required degrees and diplomas. The B.Ed teacher trainees are facing frustration badly due to struggle for jobs. In psychology, frustration is a common emotional response to opposition related to anger and disappointment; it arises from the resistance to the fulfillment of individual will. After professional degrees such as MBBS, BDS, B.Tech etc. the trainees get employment but it is only teaching field in which the teacher trainees have to show their worth time and again even after B.Ed for instance teaching tests PSTET and CTET etc. are important to get job. The present paper aims to find out the difference in frustration level between males and females residing in rural and urban areas. In the present study a sample of 90 B.Ed teacher trainees was drawn from the B.Ed colleges of Fatehgarh Sahib district of Punjab. The tools was used namely Frustration Scale by B.M. Dixit and D.N. Srivastva. Dearth of job lead to frustration and it had different impact on male and female teacher trainees residing in rural and urban locality. INTRODUCTION Human beings are equipped with many aspirations and sentiments for their bright and happy forthcoming life. It is aspirations and desires that infuse us and produces restlessness with things as they are. So, all success stories begin with a single desire. Man plans and leaves no stone unturned to achieve the desired goals. Optimistic thinking and positive emotions add excitement, happiness and strengthens human behaviour, on the other hand pessimistic thinking and negative emotions result in repeated failure that drag humans to darkness of frustration. HOW ONE BECOMES A VICTIM OF FRUSTRATION The word frustration has been derived from a Latin word Frusta means obstruct. The term frustration is blocking of behvaiour directed towards the goal. The person suffering from frustration deviates from its fixed goal. The level of motivation began to disappear. Frustration makes one feel that nothing is going to be smoothly. Things that happens prevents us from reaching the goals towards which one drives. People 1 P a g e

who cannot achieve their goal loose heart, feel depressed, angry, guilty and anxious. Hence frustration is a Pessimistic Stage. It may be the individual s own lack of ability or skill too. DESIGN OF RESPONSE TO FRUSTRATION Feeling of fear of failure germinates frustration. Rosezweig s responses to frustration are illustrated below in detail: Extra punitive: When some people face frustrating situation, they began to direct all their sudden reactions towards outward people and situations. These people held others i.e. their friends, colleagues responsible for their bad fortune. Intra punitive: When some people face frustrating situation, then they began to punish themselves. They held themselves responsible for their misfortunes. Individuals in it experience humiliation and guilt. They consider themselves inferior to others and unworthy. They feel themselves deprived of courage. In punitive: When some people face frustrating situation, they began to feel embarrassed and disgusting. None is blamed or held responsible. EXPRESSION OF FRUSTRATION AT SURFACE LEVEL Frustration comes to its surface level in the various modes of expression: (1) The occurrence of violent behavior always presupposes the existence of frustration. (2) Resignation behaviour shows the extinction of any kind of needs, no future orientation, away from social behaviour and isolation. It shows the existence of doubtful mind. (3) Stereotyped Behaviour is without any goal orientation, pressurize and under compulsion. (4) Lack of self confidence is another signia of frustration. (5) Lack of constructiveness is not because of previously learned behaviour but is due to frustration. (6) Emotional instability exhibits itself in the behaviour of young frustrated generation. Thus it can be said that frustration in the form of above said mode bring us back. Here the need of research on frustration among B.Ed students commences. REVIEW OF LITERATURE Although research has been conducted about the full effects of unemployment in the past, little has been researched about present day unemployment and the effects that it has on families and the individual. This can include not only financial and physical difficulties but a feeling of loss or mourning from job loss (Moylan, 2009). In addition, it can affect one s self-esteem and confidence in addition to a switch in traditional roles. The financial strain of unemployment can cause poor mental health, and studies have reported the beneficial effects of unemployment compensation in such contexts (Rodríguez E, Lasch K, 2 P a g e

Mead JP, 1997). However, unemployment can also be associated with poor mental health as a result of the absence of nonfinancial benefits provided by one s job, such as social status, self-esteem, physical and Anita Sharma, AASS, Vol. 2, No. 4, pp , mental activities, and use of one s skills (Bartley M., 1994). The main objective of the present study was to examine and compare the level of well-being of employed youth and un-employed youth in both the genders. some comfort to the temporarily laid off group. The negative effects of unemployment are understood as a consequence of decreased control over the life-situation. The unemployment situation imposes restrictions on individuals ability to exercise agency, which results in a lowering of mental well-being (Fryer and Payne 1984, Fryer 1986). The economic strain of unemployment also reduces the individual s control over the life situation. Economic problems diminish short-term control of the life situation; it becomes difficult to uphold the desired standard of living. This, in turn, reduces long-term control of the life course, as financial problems make planning impossible. OBJECTIVES OF THE STUDY Following are the objectives of the study: To study and differentiate frustration between male and female B.Ed teacher trainees. To study and differentiate frustration between urban and rural B.Ed teacher trainees. HYPOTHESE Following hypotheses are framed keeping in view the objectives of the study: There is no significant difference in frustration between male and female B.Ed trainees. There is no significant difference in frustration between urban and rural B.Ed trainees. SAMPLE AND TOOLS The study was conducted through descriptive method of research. The descriptive method has undoubtedly, been the most popular and most widely used research method in education. Data for this research is drawn from randomly selected 90 B.Ed teacher trainees of the B.Ed colleges, Fatehgarh Sahib. The researcher used Frustration Scale by B.M. Dixit and D.N. Srivastva (administered to B.Ed teacher trainees only) METHOD AND PROCEDURE At first Frustration Scale was administered on randomly selected 90 B.Ed teacher trainees of colleges, Fatehgarh Sahib. Scoring was done. 3 P a g e

STATISTICAL TECHNIQUES USED It was thought desirable to apply t test to measure the level of difference and relationship. ANALYSIS AND INTERPRETATION The data was subjected to necessary statistical computation as below: Table 1 Significance of difference between the mean score of male and female B.Ed teacher trainees on frustration B.Ed Teacher Trainee Group N M S.D. S.ED t value level of significance Male Female Significant at both levels N= 90, df=88 The Table 1 indicates the mean scores on frustration of male and female B.Ed Teacher trainees were found to be 96.3 (S.D.= 12.6) and (S.D.=13.77 respectively. The calculated t value 3.92 turned out to be greater than the Table value at.01 level and.05 level. Therefore, it can be stated that it is significant beyond both levels. The Table 1 further reveals that the mean scores on frustration among female is more than male. So, the null hypothesis that there is no significant difference between male and female B.Ed trainee is rejected as significant difference is found. Table 2 Significance of difference between the mean score of urban and rural B.Ed teacher trainees on frustration. B.Ed Teacher Trainee Group N M S.D. S.ED t value level of significance Urban Group Rural Group Not significant at.01 level N= 90, df=88 4 P a g e

The Table 2 indicates the mean scores on frustration of B.Ed Teacher trainees residing in urban and rural locality were found to be (S.D.= 12.7) and (S.D.=5.03) respectively. The calculated t value 1.94 turned out to be lesser than the Table value at.01 levels. The Table 2 further reveals that the mean scores on frustration among rural is more than urban locality. So, the null hypothesis that there is no significant difference in frustration of urban and rural B.Ed trainee is accepted. CONCLUSION Frustration should be avoided among B.Ed teacher trainees for the future and betterment of the country. The teacher educators of the college can play a vital role in it. The teacher trainees must be trained in such a way that they achieve healthy and dynamic personality with information of new technological world. Proper guidance needs to be provided to these trainees to make them owners of healthy minds. Much more emphasis should be put on ethics and value inculcation. They must be taught that closing eyes is not the solution of problem; they have to cope up with the new situations and challenges. Optimistic thinking is the way that leads to success in life. Peer group teaching should be encouraged and made them to adjust properly in the society and its transforming scenario. REFERENCES Bartley, M., & Owen, C. (1996).
