While it is undenible the importnce of brestfeeding nd its beneits, erly wening is still quite frequent. Community nurses s eductors hve key role in encourging, teching nd clriiction bout brestfeeding, especilly in young women nd those who re irst time mothers. Methods: We opted for prticiptory-ction reserch -on the grounds tht this methodology is best suited to the scope of the project, since it becomes dificult to know the trget udience without intercting with it nd consequently led to behvior chnge. Results: Europen guidelines set out the dvntges of brestfeeding idelly up to 6 months nd thus it ppers tht 51% of the infnts were brestfed. According to the report of the register of brestfeeding, 2011, it ws found tht the prevlence of brestfeeding stnds t 48.4%, which comes ginst the dt. Conclusions: Even without finl ssessment, it is cler tht the ongoing ction contributes to n increse in the number of children brestfed. THE REDUCTION OF HEALTH INEQUALITIES DURING PREGNANCY: A CHALLENGE FOR HEALTH PROMOTION Fátim Mrtins Universidde do Minho. Escol Superior de Enfermgem. Portugl. Contct detils: fmrtins@ese.uminho.pt The helth promotion is the process of enbling people to better mster the determinnts of helth nd thereby improve their helth. The World Helth Orgniztion sttes tht in order to promote equity on helth mong popultions, it is necessry tht ll individuls hve n equl opportunity to be helthy, with fir nd equitble ccess to helth resources. How cn we implement ctions cpble of tking into ccount the dimensions of prevention nd eduction when it comes to promoting the helth of pregnnt women in firly mnner? This context is the strting point of our study, bsed on the nlysis of eductionl prctices developed by midwives in prentl cre in Primry Helth Cre in the District of Brg, in northern Portugl. We conducted cse study where we focused on semi-structured interviews, direct observtion nd documentry reserch. Pregnnt women interviewed vlued the work of the midwife in prentl cre in regrd to helth eduction. However, we found tht the mjority of pregnnt women hve not hd the opportunity to be followed by midwives nd prticipte in the preprtion sessions for childbirth nd prenthood. The eductionl prctices used were bsed on stndrd pttern for ll women requiring the knowledge of professionls. We conclude tht the eductionl ctivities re n integrl prt of two models tht we cll trditionl nd dilogicl. Contct detils: mrcos.ribeiro@iol.pt Introduction: This study conveys the reltionship between the psychologicl nd socil dimension. Objectives: Through it we im to contribute to the understnding of the chnging of drug consume ptterns registered in the present time. This investigtion consists in the comprison of signiicnt differences in the socil representtions, bout the old nd new drugs nd their consumers, from two ge groups (12-15 nd 22-25), coming from disquliied environments. A prt of the presupposition of the modiiction of consume ptterns cn ind its explntions, mong others, in the different conjunct of socil representtions mong the distinct ge groups, representtive of development periods, which re lso divergent. Methods: We opted by methodology of mixed chrcter - qulittive in irst moment nd quntittive in second one nd /$ - see front mtter 2013 Elsevier Espñ, S.L. Todos los derechos reservdos.

Number of dolescents with impired glucose metbolism hs incresed signiicntly in the lst decde. Purpose: Estimtion of trends in the prevlence of MS nd its components (high triglycerides, low HDL cholesterol, high blood pressure, bdominl obesity nd hyperglycemi) mong dolescents ged yers in Novosibirsk. Methods: Representtive smples of dolescent popultion ged were investigted in Novosibirsk. The survey ws conducted in 2003 (663) nd in 2009 (742 dolescents). The prevlence of MS components ws ssessed by IDF criteri (2007): bdominl obesity ( 90 percentile wist circumference) nd the presence of two or more other components of the syndrome (triglycerides 150 mg/ dl, HDL cholesterol < 40 mg/dl, blood pressure 130/85 mm Hg, plsm glucose 5.6 mmol/l). Results: In the period the prevlence of bdominl obesity mong dolescents ws on the rise. The prevlence of low HDL cholesterol levels in 2009 doubled in comprison with 2003 yer (12.1% vs. 6.0%, p < 0.001), similr dynmics observed in study of high blood pressure (in %, in %, p < 0.001). The incidence of hyperglycemi signiicntly incresed (4,0% in 2003 nd 1.3% in 2009, p < 0.001). The frequency of hypertriglyceridemi decresed (1.5% in 2009 to in 2003, p < 0.003). The prevlence of MS by IDF criteri (2007) mong dolescents in 2009 slightly incresed (0.3% nd 0.5%, respectively). Conclusions: For the period the prevlence of MS in Siberin dolescents were not signiicntly chnged, but there ws tendency to incresing. However rising of prevlence of most of MS components ws registered. Contct detils: 37149@ulg.pt Introduction: Alcohol use mong dolescents is mjor public helth problem nd hs lrge short- nd long-term consequences on their helth nd psychosocil djustment. Studies suggest tht positive prent-child reltionships, ge-pproprite monitoring of children s ctivities, nd wrm nd supportive disciplinry strtegies re importnt predictors of dolescent psychosocil djustment nd helthy behviors. Objectives: Our study exmined the ssocitions between lcohol use mong dolescents nd prenting prctices. Methods: A totl of 239 dolescents ged yers old living in Algrve (Portugl) filled in questionnires bout mternl nd pternl prenting styles (ESPA29), lcohol use (HBSC), nd socio-demogrphic informtion. Results: Contrst nlysis performed (MANOVA nd ANOVA) showed different prentl sociliztion profile for the dolescents who never hd consumed lcohol from those who hd one time or more. In generl, these differences occurred in prentl cceptnce/involvement, with the irst group showing greter scores thn the second one, but not for coercion/ imposition. There re differences between both groups of dolescents regrding dolescents gender, but not ccording to ge. Therefore, girls who hd never consumed lcohol reported greter scores in cceptnce/involvement nd lower in coercion/ imposition for the fther nd the mother; boys who never did it differed from those who hd consumed lcohol in perceived prentl sociliztion for their fthers, reporting higher scores in cceptnce/involvement. Conclusions: These results show the importnce of considering the inclusion of prents in lcohol use prevention progrms. This is due to the fct tht high intensity sounds hve become dily prt of life. The MP3 plyer which llows individuls to listen to music for hours on end virtully nywhere, nd night clubs re exmples of this. Objectives: This study ws crried out to exmine udiologicl helth hbits in secondry school students nd relte them to hering bility nd skills. Methods: A questionnire ws dministered nd hering test to thirty-one young people entering high school. Results: It ws found tht: 26 (83.9%) of these youths hd norml hering nd tht the frequency most ffected by hering loss ws 6000 Hz. However, 83.9% (26) of subjects used hedphones in both ers; 19 subjects (61.3%) listened t intensities of more thn hlf of the level on the sound dil; nd 20 of these youths(64,5%) regulrly went to plces with loud music. Among the young people ttending music venues with loud music: 6 (30%) tended to sty close to the spekers; 17 (85%) left these plces with worse sense of hering, nd 18 (90%) left with ringing in the ers. Also noteworthy is tht, from ll subjects, 12 (38.7%) felt uncomfortble with loud sounds nd 48.4% (15 students) hd dificulty understnding the techer when there ws noise while one of them hd difficulty understnding the techer in silence. Conclusions: Although this study did not revel the presence of hering loss mong young people, it revels some precursor symptoms nd/or centrl uditory processing disorders, such s tinnitus, sensitivity to loud sounds nd the dificulty of perceiving with noise present. Thus, the implementtion of udiologicl helth progrms in our high schools becomes quite importnt nd urgent.

UNHEALTHY FOOD BEHAVIORS IN YOUTH AND ADULTS: AN EXPLORATORY STUDY Rosin Fernndes, Emíli Mrtins, Susn Fonsec, Frncisco Mendes, Li Arújo, Mri Amnte ESEV/IPV. Portugl. Contct detils: rosin@esev.ipv.pt Introduction: Fst food consumption increses weight gin during trnsition from dolescence to dulthood (Niemeier, Rynor, Lloyd- Richrdson, Rogers, & Wing, 2006). Additionlly, the recommendtion of moderte intke of sweeteners is due to the negtive impct in orl helth nd in the nutritionl vlue of the diet (Guthrie & Morton, 2000). These unhelthy behviors hve consequences in weight gin nd relted problems. Objectives: Explore youth nd dults unhelthy food behviors (sweeteners nd fst food). Methods: The present study ws explortory with convenience smple of 129 prticipnts (57% youngsters nd 43% dults). Only some subscles of the selected instrument (Food Frequency Questionnire) were used for evlution of food frequency consumption considering p vlue.05 for inferentil nlyses. Results: Sttisticl significtive difference using Mnn-Whitney (p =.020) in ge group nlysis (10-21 vs yers) with higher results for yougsters in sweeteners sub-scle when compred with dults (19.98 ± 4.76 vs ± 6.23). A negtive nd signiicnt (p.05) correltion (Spermn) between ge nd sweets frequency consumption ws found. Sttisticlly significnt ge group differences were found with higher fst food scores (eg.: pizz nd hmburgers) for youngsters compred to dults (p =.004 nd p =.000). Conclusions: Despite the investment in informtion nd wreness cmpigns, the present results show us the persistence of these behviors in young people, whose importnt consequences require relection nd evlution of the strtegies tht hve been dopted. It s lso importnt to show people who need to cope with everydy demnds tht it s possible to mke helthier fst food choices. MENTAL HEALTH LITERACY IN ADOLESCENTS: FROM RECOGNITION TO LOOKING FOR HELP. SYSTEMATIC REVIEW OF THE LITERATURE Amorim Ros Escol Superior de Enfermgem de Coimbr. Portugl. Contct detils: morim@esenfc.pt Bckground: Mentl disorders often rise in dolescence nd hve deep impct on dolescents nd fmilies. However, in the most frequent situtions, dolescents do not receive pproprite help, while for the more severe psychotic disorders, help is received with much dely. The low level of Mentl Helth Litercy is crucil to the lck of help-seeking behviors during dolescence, ffecting the development nd incresing the risk of recurrence of the disorders. Aim: This review ims to systemtize the current knowledge on Mentl Helth Litercy in dolescents, focusing on the recognition of the disorder nd help seeking behvior for the most common mentl helth problems: depression; nxiety nd emotionl stress, nd substnce buse. Methods: Eleven published studies of recognition of mentl disorders nd help seeking in dolescents were identiied through serches of CINAHL, Medline, B-on nd RCAAP. A themtic nlysis ws undertken on the results reported in the quntittive nd qulittive literture. Results: Adolescents showed difficulties in the recognition nd identiiction of the key symptoms of mentl disorders. Levels of recognition re higher in depression, especilly in the presence of severe symptoms. Stigm, resilience nd preference for informl help re the min brriers to ccessing professionl help. Insecurity nd lck of conidence on individul cpcities conditioned the irst id. Conclusions: New technologies (e.g. Internet nd SMS) nd school progrms re importnt sources of support nd promotion of mentl helth litercy. Strtegies for improving recognition nd help-seeking by dolescents should focus on improving mentl helth litercy, reducing stigm, nd tking into ccount the desire of dolescents for resilience nd self-relince. The prticulrities of the preschool period highlight the importnce of evluting growth nd development t this stge of life. Objectives: To describe the prevlence of overweight in preschool children nd relte to fmily socio-demogrphic vribles. Methods: Cross-sectionl nd descriptive study with 1424 pre-school children, verge ge 4.58 (SD = 0.99), residing in vrious regions of Portugl. Anthropometric mesurements of the children were evluted nd grding ccording to the NCHS reference dt (CDC, 2000). Demogrphic dt were collected from questionnires completed by prents. Results: In generl, 49.5% of children lived with their prents nd siblings (verge number of siblings = 1.33; SD = 0683). The verge BMI ws ( ; SD = 1.83). Overll, 60.2% of children hd norml weight, 5.5% were underweight, 34.3% overweight (including obesity 17.4%), being tht signiicntly higher in mles (36.8%) (X2 = 31.22; p = 0.000) nd in 5 yers old children (39.5%) nd low weight in 4 yers old (14.0%) (X2 = 101,301, p = 0.000). Nutritionl sttus proved to be dependent on fmily income (X2 = ; p = 0.007), with children from low-income fmilies the ones tht exhibit more overweight nd independ from the number of siblings, ge, residence nd prents eduction. Conclusions: The results suggest positive reltionship between overweight children nd low fmilir income. Thus it is considered relevnt to strengthen surveillnce nd eduction of feeding behvior in low-income fmilies in order to prevent excessive weight with consequences for child s helth nd future helth.

It hs heterogeneous clinicl expression. Clinicl report: Femle with 16 yers old, previously helthy. In routine nlyzes it ws detected elevted trnsminses nd she ws sent to the emergency deprtment. She reported ftigue nd stheni lsting for 6 months. She denies drugs consumption. At dmission, she hd pllor nd slight heptosplenomegly. Anlyticl studies showed microcytic nemi (9.4 g/dl) nd incresed trnsminses (ALT 254 U/L, AST 155 U/L). The bdominl ultrsound reported signs of liver disese with diffuse micronodulr pttern; hypertrophy of the cudte nd left lobe; comptible with mrked ibrotic. The clinicl hypothesis of liver disese ws rised nd she ws referred to the dolescent ofice for investigtion. The study performed reveled: hyperglobulinemi nd ws positive for ntinucler ntibodies, nti-nucleosome, nti-ctin nd nti-ro. Given the hypothesis of utoimmune heptitis type 1 she ws dmitted to perform liver biopsy. The histopthology confirmed the dignosis of utoimmune heptitis with severe ibrosis. As tretment, she strted prednisolone nd zthioprine with nlyticl improvement. Discussion: Dignosis of AIH is bsed on clinicl nd biochemicl dt, positive ntibodies nd typicl histologicl findings with exclusion of other cuses of liver disese. In our cse report, due to the subtlety of clinicl mnifesttions, the dignosis ws clinicl discovery. It is importnt to emphsize tht nonspeciic complints in dolescents re not lwys psychosomtic, it is crucil the exclusion of orgnic pthology.
