Speaking on the night The key speaker at tonight s public meeting is Professor Desmond O Neill, National Programme Director for Traffic Medicine. Prof O'Neill's major field of research is that of transportation, ageing and older drivers. 3 Prof Elizabeth Keane Royal College of Physicians of Ireland Dean of the Faculty of Public Heath, Royal College of Physicians of Ireland Professor Elizabeth Keane, is a graduate in Medicine from University College Cork and subsequently was conferred with an MPH from University College Dublin. She completed Higher Specialist Training in Public Medicine in Ireland and achieved Membership of the Faculty of Public Health Medicine in the Royal College of Physicians of Ireland in 1990 and Fellowship in Dr Keane was Director of Public Health in HSE South (Cork and Kerry) from 1995 until She has lectured in the Department of Epidemiology and Public Health in University College Cork since 1990 and was appointed Adjunct Professor in Her main professional interests are in health protection particularly in the surveillance and control of blood borne viruses and international health regulations. Dr Keane has served on a number of state boards including the National Cancer Registry Board as Chair, the Irish Blood Transfusion Service, and the Irish Medicines Board/Health Products Regulatory Authority. Chair Ms Ann Doherty CEO, Cork City Council On 8th September, 2014 Ann was appointed as Chief Executive of Cork City Council. Cork City Council employs 1200 people and is the only organisation in the city that, as provided for in law, represents leads and serves the communities of Cork City. As Chief Executive of Cork City Council Ann plays a pivotal role in advancing the physical, economic, social and cultural life of Cork City. A native of County Limerick, after completing her Leaving Certificate, Ann trained as a nurse at the then Regional Hospital Cork (now known as Cork University Hospital).

4 On qualifying in the late 1980 s Ann moved to London and worked at Kings College Hospital in a variety of roles, Clinical, Clinical Management and General Management. During her time in London Ann had the opportunity to pursue her academic interests and studied at both the South Bank University in London and Glasgow University. One of Ann s proudest days was the day she graduated with her MBA from the South Bank University, London in Coming back to Cork in 1997 Ann joined the Southern Health Board and had the opportunity to serve in a number of roles but worked primarily in the strategic development and performance management aspects of the development of health services in Cork and Kerry. When the Health Service Executive was established in 2004 Ann competed for and was appointed as a National Director. As National Director over the past 10 years Ann held a number of portfolios, including Director of the National Hospitals Office and CEO of UL Hospitals Group. In 2014, along with 25 other women, Ann was awarded as one of Ireland s Most Powerful Women by the Women s Executive Network. Professor Desmond O Neill Director National Programme Office for Traffic Medicine, RCPI/RSA Professor Desmond O Neill, Consultant Physician in Geriatric and Stroke Medicine at Tallaght Hospital Dublin and Trinity College Dublin and Director for the National Programme Office for Traffic Medicine RCPI/RSA. Professor O Neill graduated from Trinity College Dublin (TDC). He trained as a geriatrician in St James's Hospital and the University of Bristol. Following an appointment as consultant geriatrician in Selly Oak Hospital, Birmingham he returned to Dublin and currently is the senior academic in Medical Gerontology at the TCD campus at Tallaght Hospital. His major field of research is that of transportation, ageing and older drivers. He co-chaired the RCPI Working Group on Driving and Health and has written chapters on driving and health for three international textbooks of geriatric medicine, two international textbooks of dementia care, two textbooks of medical ethics, and an Irish textbook of geriatric medicine. In addition, he was coauthor of a major OECD report on transport in later life, and contributed to a similar report for the US Transportation Research Board.

5 Dr Ronan Boland MB BCh BAO, MICGP, MRCGP, DCH DObst GP, Blackpool, Cork Dr Ronan Boland a General Practitioner (GP) in Cork since 1995, his practice is in Wherlands Lane Medical Centre, Blackpool. He is a graduate in Medicine from University College Cork and was subsequently conferred with an MICGP MRCGP DCH DObst. Dr Boland has served on a number of national boards and working groups including as a member of the Editorial Board of Forum, the ICGP Journal between 1996 and 2007 and as a member on the IT Tutor Health One User Group between 1998 and In addition he was Regional GP Coordinator for the Heartwatch Programme until 2010, and served on the ICGP Council between 1993 and Dr Boland is a member of the Irish Medical Organisation for which he has in the past served in a number of important positions to include Chair of its GP Committee, Vice President and President (2011 and 2012). Dr Boland is a public health advocate and is a frequent contributor on health/medical matters on national radio & television. Mr Declan Naughton Director with the Road Safety Authority driver testing and licensing Declan Naughton is a Director with the Road Safety Authority; he heads up the driver testing and licensing area in the organisation. He is primarily interested in improving the way learner drivers learn to drive and has been involved in initiatives around the introduction of a Graduated Driving Licensing model in Ireland. Declan wants to make licensing rules accessible and meaningful to the public and not merely seen as a list of laws in dusty statute books.
