Students will be provided with a thorough understanding of the fate of drugs in a mammalian system by providing a detailed insight into selected topics including; routes of administration of drugs, phases of drug metabolism and pharmacokinetics. The relevance of this topic will be developed in relation to pharmacokinetics, drug metabolism and elimination. The analysis of drugs and their metabolites will be examined in relation to physiological enhancement in health and performance in sports science. Describe the process of drug absorption and distribution. Identify the key factors affecting drug absorption and distribution. Describe the process of drug metabolism and resultant metabolites. Identify the most likely route(s) of drug elimination; Identify some of the key organs/systems affected by drugs. Describe how drugs may be utilized to enhance performance or treat disease.
