This month we give you an introduction into Thai culture and introduce you to a traditional Thai festival. Thailand, is a spectacular place where magic and mystery can be found in many places. Loi Krathong is as old as Thai heritage itself, and represents a close bond between Thai culture and water. During the course of your detoxification program, allow us to coach you in the art of making your own Krathong and then accompany you as you take part in the beautiful tradition which will be a meaningful and memorable highlight of your Koh Samui rejuvenation holiday with New Body and Mind. It is traditionally performed on the full moon night of the twelfth lunar month, which usually falls in November. If you are here in November, the magic flourishes on the 15th and a truly mystical experience, can be had. On this night, on nearly every expanse of water, be it a river, lake or the ocean, you ll notice thousands of lights drifting across the water like fairy dreams. Gently flickering, dipping and dancing in the breeze as they go, making a spectacular sight. Participants are asking the water spirits to float away their troubles and ill fortunes and to let go of bad feelings like hatred, anger, greed and jealousy, all by releasing a Krathong. Loi means float, and a krathong is a special Thai floating sculpture particular to the festival. The traditional krathong is made from a cross-section of a banana tree trunk, which is then elaborately decorated with folded banana leaves and flowers in intricate towering designs and it carries offerings of food, betel nuts, flowers, candles, joss-sticks and coins. This is the time of the year to forge unforgettable memories, together with other clients and staff from New Body and Mind retreats.

2 Ingredients 4 Slices of cucumber 1/2 tomato 1 big slice of onion 5 leaves of green oak Lettuce 20 grams of sliced carrot 20 Gram purple cabbage 20 Grams white cabbage 10 Grams pea sprouts 20 grams of green apple 70 grams of Tuna 1 teaspoon of flaxseeds 2 teaspoons of crushed cashew nuts 2 teaspoons of crushed almonds 1 teaspoon of white sesame seeds 1 teaspoon of black sesame seeds 1 tablespoon of honey 1 tablespoon of raw apple cider vinegar 1 Tablespoon of soy sauce 1 Teaspoon of sesame oil 1 tablespoon of virgin olive oil 2 cloves of crushed garlic 1 teaspoon of black sesame seeds 1 teaspoon of white sesame seeds A pinch of black pepper Preparation Salads are mostly composed of fresh vegetables, always ready and easy to keep in the fridge, so when you feel hungry you don t need to start preparing or cooking any ingredients. Salads are easy to digest and don t overload the senses or stimulate the appetite. Salads are moistening and refreshing, liberate the stomach, promote sleep and appetite and quench the thirst. The ancient medical practitioners Hippocrates and Galen believed that raw vegetables easily slipped through the system and did not create obstructions for what followed, therefore they should be served first. 5 HOW DOES WATER HELP REMOVE HARMFUL TOXINS FROM YOUR DIGESTIVE TRACT? Toxins? Just what are these creepy things that seem to invade our body? Toxins are actually a normal part of your bodies intake of food and oxygen. The bowel disposes of toxins from the digestive system and the liver helps clear the way for other organs to function properly and help rid of those unwanted toxins. Your body is actually able to detoxify itself in a natural manner with the use of its lungs, liver and kidneys. Problem solved? Not quite... When our bodies are bombarded with unfamiliar toxins, are producing too many toxins, or are not eliminating toxins effectively, the toxins build up and can cause health problems. Then it is time for a detoxification program supporting the body s natural elimination process and preventing the day-to-day buildup of toxicity. Coffee, tea, sports drinks, soda and other sugary drinks cause more problems than high blood sugar. It takes your body more water to flush out these fluids from your body, leaving you dehydrated. Many of these drinks contain unnatural ingredients which add to the toxins that our bodies must help us flush out. The key to detoxification is knowledge: understanding the link between feeling subpar and toxicity, understanding where toxins come from, and understanding what you can do to help yourself: Drinking water is instrumental in detoxification. Just how does water help remove toxins? It flushes toxins and waste from the body and transports nutrients to where they are needed. Without water the contents of your colon can dry out and get stuck, eventually causing constipation. Water is a natural lubricant that softens stool and promotes evacuation of the bowels. Our kidney system is unique in its filtering capabilities and totally dependent upon water in order for it to work. They filter voluminous amounts of blood each day and in doing so maintain the body s water balance and excrete toxins and excess fluid through the bladder. Daily fluid intake is essential for our bodies to function efficiently. Try to drink eight to ten glasses of pure water a day. It s not hard...three to four glasses in each part of the day and you finished! You can even try room temperature water to start and then switch to ice water in the afternoon. You can even add a few slices of lemon or squeeze some lemon in your water to add some tasty natural flavor. This has more benefit than taste because lemons contain a high acid content which helps the digestive system moving. If you have kids you can toss in those reusable frozen shaped ice cubes that kids love. Think all you have to do is just drink the water? There are also other ways water can help you remove toxins. Water is also useful externally: baths and saunas can help detoxification. Hot water increases blood flow and capillary action near the surface of the skin, causing faster release of toxins. The heat also increases sweating and opens up pores. Be sure to bathe in pure water and be mindful that hot water and the detoxification effect can cause dizziness. Also, there are a number of substances you can add to your bath to help the detoxification process. Exercising is also an excellent way to get your bowel moving to excrete toxins. Exercise helps to decrease the time it takes for food to move through the large intestine, this will avoid hard stools which are harder to pass. Why not make simple flavorings of your daily drinking water a habit, as well as adding certain bath salts to help make your detoxifying process with water more enjoyable! If you re thirsty, drink water instead of those sugary drinks we are so familiar with. Water is the number one way to maintain health and to excrete toxins from our body. Lastly, simply exercising 10 to 15 minutes several times a day can help your body and digestive system function optimally. Let us begin paving the way to a healthy and happy lifestyle!
