Factors Associated with Women s Access to and Utilization of Health- Related Services (Sanitation) in Informal Settlements in Nairobi School of Social Work, Rutgers Univ., U.S.; Dept. of Sociology and Social Work, Univ. of Nairobi, Kenya Advised by: Dr. Francis Barchi, School of Planning and Public Policy; Dr. Robinson Ocharo, Department of Sociology/Social Work Description: Designed, proposed and managed 18-month, multi-phase, mixedmethods study exploring women s access to health-related services (sanitation), the factors that influence that access, the role that violence plays in that access, the role proximal social context (e.g. social disorganization) plays in that access, and women s solutions to these issues in slums in Nairobi. Wrote proposals and obtained funding for the project. Collected 55 qualitative case studies and 550 quantitative surveys. Trained and managed a team of 4 research assistants and a field staff of 15.
