2 The Vision Inequities in health are unfair, unnecessary and avoidable. New York City is one of the most unequal cities in the United States and one of the most segregated. It is no surprise that these everyday realities are reflected in our health. A more deliberate effort to name and address these disparities will frame all that we do. Commissioner Mary T. Health Inequities East New York has the highest rate of diabetes in the City Bedford Stuyvesant has the 3rd and Brownsville has the 6th Brownsville ranks 2nd in preterm births, and 8th in teen

7 Health Inequities East New York has the highest rate of diabetes in the City Bedford Stuyvesant has the 3rd and Brownsville has the 6th Brownsville ranks 2nd in preterm births, and 8th in teen births, Bedford-Stuyvesant, East New York and Bushwick all have higher rates than Brooklyn and the City on these fronts as well In regards to premature mortality, Brownsville is first, Bedford- Stuyvesant is third and East New York is ninth. Brownsville s premature death rate is 5x that of the Financial District
