If so, send us an email Newsletter OCTOBER 2014 Brightwells Gostrey Centre, Brightwells Road,Farnham GU9 7SB Tel: 01252 718166 Email: carerssupportwaverley@btconnect.com We have recently had to make the difficult decision, jointly with Carers Support Guildford, to discontinue the Ladywell Pamper Days. Carers who have attended have always found them to be extremely enjoyable and beneficial. Unfortunately, however, the rising costs for each day, in comparison to the number of Carers who attend (10 each from Carers Support Waverley and Carers Support Guildford), and also the amount of staff time needed to organise each event, have prompted us to make changes to the present arrangements. For some time we have been considering whether the Pamper days are the best way of supporting our Carers. In future, in place of the Ladywell sessions, we are planning to arrange 6 events throughout the year with a theme of helping Carers wellbeing and preventing ill health, with an opportunity for relaxing and socialising with other Carers. With this in mind, suggestions so far include:- a swim, followed by coffee and chance to chat with other Carers being joined by a choir, to enjoy participation in a singing session to invite some of the therapists who have previously undertaken sessions at Ladywell to provide treatments, such as shoulder massage a dancing session a group walk Your ideas would be very welcome and we are hoping that by offering a wider variety of events these will appeal to a larger number of Carers, which will enable us to use our funding more effectively. We are looking to arrange 2 morning, 2 lunch time and 2 evening activities throughout the year, so that more Carers will have the opportunity to participate. Thank you for your support and understanding and we look forward to hearing from you. 1

Changes to Special Educational Needs Statements From 1 st September there are changes to the way children and young people with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) get support. Statement and Learning Difficulty Assessments (LDA) will be replaced by an Educational Health and Care (EHC) plan. An EHC plan sets out your child s needs and how they should be met. You may be able to get a personal budget for your child, if they are eligible for an EHC plan. This will give you more say on how money is spent on your child s needs. Young people in further education and training will also be eligible for an EHC plan, up to the age of 25 in some cases. For more information, speak to your child s school or contact Parent Partnership: Helpline 01737 737300 www.surreyparentpartnership.org.uk Jolly Dollies is an organisation started by widows for widows whose main objective is to help regain a social life through friendship and organised social events. The website for the Bereavement Register is: www.the-bereavement-register.org.uk FLU JABS for Carers The DoH have published their guidance for this year s flu vaccination programme and main Carers in the household are included. If you would like a flu vaccination, contact your GP practice to make arrangements advice states that this is best in the early autumn. From Carer to Carer.Maria Cassie Reiki Healer and Carer!! I am a Reiki Healer who has a 21 year old autistic and physically disabled son. I have been doing healing for about 12 years and I would like to offer healing to other Carers at a reduced rate of 15 for 40 minutes. Healing can be done lying down or sitting in a chair, with the healer's hands either touching the body or slightly away from the body. Healing is excellent to help with relaxation, aches and pains and is very uplifting. It can work alongside medicine, but it is worth checking with your GP to make sure they feel it would be appropriate. I know how difficult it is being a Carer and for this reason would like to help others.
