Entries due by Nov. 21st Parade Parking Available this year parking on the inside of the square. Special parking permits can be purchased to park on the inside of the square during the parade. Nebraska Main Street Network Webinar Training The Nebraska Main Street program and Southeast Community College are proud to host Can Small Towns Be Cool? Presented by David Ivan, Michigan State University Tuesday, November 1, 2016 Time: 11:30am to 1:00pm Central Time About the Training Based on a three year research study examining the successful approaches of 80 high performing small to mid-sized communities in 18 states, this session provides real strategies from real communities on enhancing local entrepreneurship, strengthening human talent, addressing youth migration, and building successful regional partnerships. Attendees will obtain proven strategies they can implement in their own towns. This unique 90-minute online training is being hosted at various Main Street member locations throughout the state and you may choose the location where you would like to attend. Attendees will participate as a group and will be able to interact with others and the presenter for a more enriched learning experience. For a higher level of educational value and experience, the webinar is not available for individuals to login from their desktop. All attendees must register to attend one of the sites. This format also allows each site to hold an optional informal group discussion afterward to talk about how to apply what was learned. All training materials are included in the registration fee. Walk-ins the day of the training are welcome. About Our Presenter Dave Ivan provides oversight to a team of more than 65 MSU Extension members who specialize in natural resources management, financial literacy, entrepreneurship and more. Ivan has over 15 years of progressive leadership experiences with MSU Extension. In addition to serving as GMI interim director, he also served as a regional director and Clinton County Extension director. Ivan has provided innovative Extension programming in economic development and is frequently sought as a guest speaker on community revitalization. He holds a bachelor s and a doctorate from MSU as well as an MBA from Penn State University. Christmas Carnival Friday, Nov. 25 3:00-5:00pm The Windmill Provide a prize with a value of at least $25.00 for the prize table. The prize can be for either a boy or girl. The tickets won at each booth will be deposit in the box in front of the donated prizes. If there is a prize the child would REALLY like to win, they can deposit all their tickets in that box. Following the carnival winners will be drawn for all the prizes. Winners will be announced following the Christmas Parade. Deadline to register for the Carnival: Friday, Nov. 4th. 26th Minden BandFest THANK YOU Todd Jensen, Michelle Edgecombe & Laura Rut and all the volunteers who helped BandFest it was a HOT event. We hosted 31 bands for the parade and 11 bands for the field competition. The parade route was lined with spectators and the stands full for the field competition it was an amazing day in Minden. 3 Shop Local Support Local business this season buy Chamber Bucks for gifts. Chamber of Commerce Meeting October 6, 2016 Present: Dena Beck, Marcy Brandt, Erica Hansen, Janene Hill, Joelle Knott, Carol Loschen, Jordon Patterson, Don Phillips and Chamber Director Marcia Davis. Absent: Natalie Janda, Jeanne Jons, Sally Jurgensmier and Kevin Krull were absent. Meeting was called to order at 12:05 p.m. by President Marcy Brandt. Janene Hill moved to approve the Secretary and Treasurer reports be approved as submitted. Jordon Patterson second, motion approved. Old Business I. BandFest: Marcy reported that a few volunteers are still needed for the concession stand. The shift would be from 1:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. Marcia reported that there are 34 bands registered for the event. II. Christmas Festival: Marcy reported that the committee is putting together a fun filled 9 day event. Four (4) Bounce Houses have been contracted for the event at a total cost of $9,000.00 for 9 days. Sponsorship will be solicited for helping with the costs. The old Dollar General location will again be used for a craft fair one weekend and a popup Gallery on other. The Christmas Parade and Game carnival will be held on the Friday after Thanksgiving and there is a possibility of having Carolers on the Square during event. III. Shop Local: The kickoff Luncheon held yesterday was a success with 28 members present. Based on the comments and suggestions made at the luncheon the committee will be looking at a rewards program, which may include a Facebook Deal of the Week campaign. Janene Hill suggested that the enrollment forms be made accessible on-line for easier participation. Dena Beck asked when this type of campaign may be kicked off. Marcy said that the committee would most likely look at starting it after the first of the year. IV. 2017 Membership Drive: Marcia Davis is working on updating the membership brochure. Board members were asked to review the current brochure and discussion was held on ways to update and improve it. New Business I. Minden Opera House Membership: Discussion was held on renewing the Opera House membership for 2016/2017. Don Phillips moved that the Chamber renew its membership at the $250.00 level. Joelle Knott, second, motion carried. Marcy Brandt abstained from the voting on this item due to a conflict of interest. II. 2017 Budget: Marcia Davis presented updated budget information. No action was taken. The Budget will be reviewed in greater detail at the November meeting.. III. Public Copying: The Chamber Office has received a request to provide copies for a community organization. Discussion was held on the wear and tear on the copier and competing against other businesses in town that provide copying services. Dena Beck moved that the Chamber not provide copying services for organizations other than the Chamber. Janene Hill second motion carried. Committees: I.
