JUNE GENERAL MEETING This will be our Annual SHOWCASE It will be held at the Polivalent (directions) on Thursday 22nd of June. The doors will open at 10.30am with the Showcase starting at 11.00am

There will be our usual Coffee and Tea available. Please come along and experience an enjoyable morning Forum We have a members Forum on our Website which gives you all the current and up coming events, plus items of interest and reports on previous activities. Please log on to our website and click on Forum. U3A Oliva visit the Albufera Forty members of Oliva U3A had a memorable day visiting the Albufera, a vast freshwater lagoon and nature reserve near Valencia, where the rice paddies stretch as far as the eye can see. After a visit to a traditional fisherman s hut, made of clay and reeds, we enjoyed a long boat trip around the lagoon, admiring the scenery and the birdlife, followed by lunch. Tourism is becoming increasingly important in this region and we had a choice of many excellent restaurants. Report by Tina Bellinie After lunch we moved on to Sueca to visit a chocolate factory, a family business based in a beautiful townhouse, where chocolate is still being made to original recipes from the 19th century. A tour of the factory and a history of chocolate making were enhanced by many samples, and we had the opportunity to buy a variety of products. It was encouraging to learn that chocolate is really very good for you, providing it is at least 70% cocoa.

Your new Travel Team have been working hard to plan the following trips and events for our New U3A Year up to Christmas 2017. October (1st half of October if possible): Ducal Palace tour in English, from there to the Monastery Sant Jeroni. Here especially for our group there will be a catered lunch followed by a tour of the Monastery in English, (full details and price will be available later). October: Make a Smile visit late in the month for lunch and visit to the local Olive pressing plant. November: 10th Anniversary Party on 11th of November at the Polivalent November: a visit to Elche. December: Christmas Market in Valencia (1st half of December) December: the 15th or 16th, a Glitter Gala Ball this is being arranged before everybody departs for a great Christmas. More trips and events for 2018 will be available here soon. We are still looking for more of your Trip and Event ideas and suggestions which we can seriously consider for 2018. Please send your ideas to me at :- travel-co-ordinator@u3a-oliva.org. Ten Year Anniversary As we are all aware this year, to be precise, on the 11th June we will have been around for 10 years. This is a momentous occasion. When you consider all the people who have been members and enjoyed all that the Oliva U3a has had to offer in terms of learning, companionship, appreciation of the local environment etc. The list could go on. This is a truly wonderful association with a lot more to offer for all involved. On the 11th of November we are holding a celebratory gathering in the Polivalent. We love for as many as possible to attend and enjoy an evening of entertainment by some of our tremendous Groups, with food and refreshment available with music and dancing to follow. We do however need your assistance. Please let me have anything that would assist in celebrating our achievements such as photo's etc. We would also like those who have not done so to complete our questionnaire 10th Anniversary Questionnaire. This will greatly assist us in deciding what will be required for the evening festivities. Many Thanks John. I can be contacted on:- johnmelville@compuserve.com.
