2 2009 Surveillance Report Luisa Pessoa-Brandão gave the 2009 HIV Surveillance update and offered to send a copy of the slides she used to anyone that requested them. MSM Panel Discussion Rob Yaeger facilitated an MSM panel discussion consisting of: Derek Blechinger Hennepin County Public Health - Red Door HIM Program Juan Jackson The City, Inc. Kevin Moore Pillsbury House Pillsbury United Communities Keith Pederson Man 2 Man Program University of Minnesota Thank You Peter thanked Timona for the contributions he made to HIV Prevention for the State of Minnesota and CCCHAP as the Community Planning Coordinator. He oversaw the streamlining process. He played a big part in redefining the relationship between CCCHAP and MDH. He also engaged the HIV community in seeking out new members for CCCHAP to make sure that all the voices were heard. He came up with the idea of developing the MN HIV Prevention Strategy modeled after the international model. It will put us at the forefront of HIV Planning. MN HIV Prevention Updates Peter gave an update on what s going on with HIV Prevention at MDH. Unaware Into Care: April 7, 2010 meeting at Minneapolis Urban League attended by STD and HIV Section staff, several CCCHAP members, over 60 community members. MDH is partnering with Hennepin County and MN Department of Human Services Ryan White Program staff to focus on how to enhance programming to reach people in MN who are living with HIV and unaware of their status. MOAPPP: MDH and MOAPPP are looking at ways to collaborate. MDH/MDE Collaboration: HIV/STD workshops for health teachers and GLBT advisors. Hepatitis Symposium: August at the Park Plaza Hotel, Bloomington, MN. Contact Cheri Booth cheri.booth@state.mn.us or Planning Council: Peter was recently approved as a member. He will be serving on the Operations Committee. Red Door Clinic: Contracting with Hennepin County to fund a partner services position. HIV Testing HCMC Emergency Department pilot; testing people who come into the ER for HIV. April is National STD Awareness Month. CCCHAP Meeting Minutes 2
3 May 19 th National Asian and Pacific Islander HIV/AIDS Awareness Day. May is National Hepatitis Awareness Month. MSM Summit & Program Assessment Rob Yaeger gave a summary of the MSM Summit. Rob went through the responses to the questions that were asked at the Young MSM focus groups. Follow-up event for YMSM community members at Patrick s Cabaret on the first Friday in June. MSM Program Assessment funded from CDC to do an assessment of HIV Prevention Programs, Counseling Testing and Referral services in clinics, and Disease Investigation Partner Services systems at MDH. Those that are targeted to MSM; looking at how they all interact and what enhancements need to be made. Syphilis Elimination Plan and Chlamydia Partnership MDH was funded for 2010 to do Syphilis Elimination Activities The CTR Coordinator, Sarah Gordon, is coordinating this project. Activities this year: 1. Reinstate a contract with Red Door Clinic to provide syphilis health education and risk reduction information to MSM during internet chat room outreach; syphilis screening for MSM at the clinic and at community events; on-line outreach in sites frequented by MSM and maintain the InSpot partner notification site. 2. Working with Russell Herder, an advertising agency, to develop a syphilis media campaign for MSM in MN and to assess the need and utilization of social and digital technology to reach the target audience. Training: The first training for health care providers will educate on the importance of partner management for syphilis. The second training will focus on the clinical management of syphilis and HIV co-infection. Chlamydia Partnership MDH is having a Summit Meeting on Tuesday, August 3, 2010 at Snelling Office Park as the numbers in MN have reached epidemic proportions across all gender, age, race and geographical groups. Summary of Past & Future Timona gave a summary of where CCCHAP came from and how it has evolved into a partnership with MDH. He talked about the Streamlining and Planning Cycle that has occurred. He also talked about the MN HIV Prevention Strategy being a multi-sectoral approach to mobilize key partners and their resources towards a statewide HIV prevention effort. Next Steps: Organize round tables for the different populations Organize stakeholders meeting Finish writing the strategy document Develop a website for MN HIV Prevention Strategy CCCHAP Meeting Minutes 3
4 Engage partners and stakeholders Document lessons learned at the state level to share with the other states and NHAS (National HIV/AIDS Strategy) Evaluations and Announcements Michael Lee MAP will be holding an Allen Spear forum about the Health Threat Law on Wednesday, April 28, 2010, 6:30 p.m. at Plymouth Congregational Church in Minneapolis on Nicollet and Franklin. There will be a panel discussion with Hennepin DIS and MDH s Steve Schletty. Call MAP AIDSLine for more information. Yemesrach She is going to develop a bulletin board page on the internet for members to communicate between meetings and give announcements, etc. Peter ET is talking about having a picnic in September An will be sent out about the picnic. Earnest - Twin Cities Black Pride event I Love the 80 s Skating Party Thursday, April 29 th at The Roller Garden in St. Louis Park. Family oriented all ages welcome, Lady L, deejay, Storm and Flow, prizes, lots of fun. Dining Out for Life April 29 th to support the Aliveness Project providing care and services for HIV+ people. Restaurants offer a percentage of their income for that day to the Aliveness Project. It can be breakfast, lunch or dinner depending on the restaurant.
