What is an Accredited Course? An Accredited Course is one that has been assessed by ASQA as compliant with the Standards for VET Accredited Courses 2012 and the Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF). It means the course is nationally recognised and that an RTO can issue appropriate AQF certification documentation for its full or partial completion. Accredited Courses address skill requirements for industry, enterprise, educational, legislative or community need where these are not covered in existing Training Packages. Once a course has been Accredited, it is listed on the National Register of VET Home/Tga What is the difference between an Accredited Course and courses that are accrediated by an assocation? Not only are most of CCM s courses nationally recognised under the Australian Qualifications Framework, they have also been accredited by one or more relevant industry associations. Association accreditation ensures that the course they endorse meet industry standards in terms of content and hours of training. It provides students with the confidence that their training is also recognised by an industry body. Accreditation

7 12 13 International Students This is your chance to gain recognised qualifications in Complementary Medicine and Expressive Arts whilst studying in one of the best countries. CCM currently offers the following courses for international students: 10594NAT Diploma of Mind Body Medicine(CRICOS Code: D) 10539NAT Diploma of Leadership in Expressive Arts and Group Work (CRICOS Code: C) HLT52415 Diploma of Kinesiology (CRICOS Code: J) 10358NAT Advanced Diploma of Integrative Complementary Medicine (CRICOS Code: G) About Australia Australia is a great country to live and study in, from our stunning scenery, rich heritage and diverse culture, Australia is truly unique and full of inspiration. There are many websites that are full of information about our fantastic country, such as about-australia.com/ I had been living in Australia for nearly 4 years and I was ready to go back to my home country, Italy, for good. My flight was booked, the bank account closed, the car was for sale, my stuff packed and ready for the shipment, everything was ready for me to go back home. Then, by chance - or so I thought - CCM crossed my path. During that first short course something happened, something clicked... call it insight, wisdom, gut feeling, or intuition... it just felt right. Two years later I had a diploma in my hands but much more than just that in my heart. This course has been a life changing experience that broadened my understanding of myself and others, and brought peace and joy back into my life. I am deeply grateful to all the teachers for providing such a wealth of knowledge and a broad set of tools that guided me through this journey of personal and professional growth and development. Now I m back in Italy and I m running my own clinic. Despite my apprehension of getting people familiar with kinesiology, I actually see more and more people open to a different way of taking care of their health and wellbeing. I do believe the mind-body approach is the future of health care and CCM provides you with all you need to become a successful mind-body practitioner. Maria Christina Merlo Kinesiology Graduate International Students Studying in Australia The official Australian Government site for international students wishing to study in Australia is This website provides international students with all the information they need to live and study in Australia, you can search for courses, institutions, watch stories from other international students, and learn about Australian education.

8 14 15 HLT52415 Diploma of Kinesiology Kinesiology makes use of a range of skills that help to give a greater understanding of what our bodies are trying to tell us. Our Kinesiology course combines traditional Kinesiology techniques with the key areas of complementary medicine, including counselling, acupressure, energetic medicine, nutrition and diet, and primitive reflex therapy. This means it draws on the best research, whether it is in Western Medicine, Eastern Medicine or Complementary Medicine. It is constantly updated so students get the benefit of breakthroughs in key areas, such as Porges theory of the Social Nervous System. The back bone of Kinesiology is the use of muscle monitoring which helps identify conscious and subconscious stress patterns. Muscle monitoring is an inherently practical skill and CCM training emphasises practice and student clinic. This ensures students become confident and proficient in applying Kinesiology. What makes an outstanding Kinesiologist is not just theory and course work - we go beyond the teaching of Kinesiology. At CCM our program is designed to be holistic and integrative, teaching you to question and to use both Kinesiology to find answers and complementary medicine to know what questions to ask. This approach enables students, to have a greater depth of understanding, more confidence in their clinical work and ultimately a highly successful clinic. The HLT52415 Diploma of Kinesiology training is a recognised qualification that opens doors to a rewarding and flexible career. Who is the course for? This is a course for people who are looking for a career path in complementary medicine and are deeply committed to making a difference to people s health and wellbeing. This may by establishing their own clinical practice or joining an established clinic as a Kinesiologist. We have graduates who were previously accountants, lawyers and corporate high flyers and who are now happily focused on a career that is more heart centred. It is also a great course for practitioners of other modalities looking to add Kinesiology to their skill set. We have graduates who came from backgrounds in medicine, nutrition, massage, and homeopathy just to name a few. Our flexible study structures are perfect for people who lead a busy lifestyle. Our course structures enable you to juggle study, work and other commitments. Career Outcomes Our graduates may go on to use their depth of knowledge to work successfully both here and overseas, as part of professional clinics, as independent practitioners, teachers and within focused health programs in the corporate sector. Our graduates go on to establish their own clinics, enjoying the flexibility of being able to structure work in a way that is balanced with the commitments of their family life. Others use their expertise within specific areas such as fertility enhancement, learning difficulties, recovery from traumatic events, depression, pain and improving performance. Course Duration and Structure We have two study options available for our Kinesiology course: full-time and blended learning. Full-time domestic students: Duration is 13 months. Students can either attend the college Student Clinic or see a practitioner. Subjects Introduction to Kinesiology This fascinating subject opens the student s eyes to the effectiveness and uniqueness of muscle monitoring. Originating in Western medicine and later adopted in chiropractic medicine, muscle monitoring allows the practitioner to find both conscious and subconscious information that is preventing the client from dissolving stress on many levels. This subject looks at the relationship between muscles and meridians as established by Applied Kinesiology, as well as the Holistic Kinesiology relationships based on traditional Chinese medicine. Huge emphasis is placed on professional muscle monitoring techniques. The subject also explores 5-element psychology and begins to introduce ways of balancing the client to reduce stress. Some of the techniques include the use of Acupressure, Yuan, Mu, Neurovascular, Neurolymphatic points and 5-elements colour and sound. HLT52415 Diploma of Kinesiology

9 16 17 HLT52415 Diploma of Kinesiology I was looking around at a few of the other colleges that had Kinesiology and this was the one that jumped out at me because the content just seemed so rich. It draws from a lot of different areas, which suited my mind set in terms of my approach to health - having been an Holistic personal trainer before hand, working with injury rehabilitation. I ve really enjoyed the Student Clinic as this is where I got to put all the skills I d learned into practice. The college really is at the cutting edge area of health. Nick Moss - Mind Body Medicine, Kinesiology and Integrative Medicine graduate It is the first subject taught in all the MBM faculty courses as the mastering of even basic techniques can have a huge effect on improving the state of the client. Counselling and Communications This subject introduces the importance of counselling, especially the Rogerian client-centred model. It looks at how to create a safe environment for the clinical encounter. The value of building trust and rapport with clients is accentuated. The subject allows the students to gain communication skills to enhance their ability to listen, facilitate and guide clients. There are several key tools and techniques covered in this subject including client centred counselling, focusing and felt sense techniques. Students also explore the heroic journey, which allows them to better understand human suffering. VHS: Acupuncture System This fascinating subject has two main topics. The first explores raditional Chinese medicine s acupuncture system, a fascinating system with more than 4000 years of clinical practice. The subject covers all of the channel pathways and has detailed information on all 361 acupuncture points. Emphasis is placed on understanding why points have specific effects, particularly by learning in detail the internal pathways of the channel system (where channels connect with the organs and muscles). The subject also looks at the importance of balancing the 3 main energy centres of the body and use of open point theory. The second topic emphasis es the importance of practitioner development. Included is a 3 day camp where students are taken through numerous techniques to learn stillness of the mind, meditation, 5 element tai-qi, internal Kung-Fu, self trust and much more. The internal state the practitioner can cultivate within themselves has a major impact on their work with clients - this subject is a must in any complementary training. Energetic Medicine This subject will appeal to anyone that wants to learn about vibrational therapies and how the energetic system works and influences our wellbeing. The subject looks at vibrational therapies like essences, sound, crystals, colour and more. The Chakra system, and its relationship to the glands and hormones of our body, is emphasised. Students learn to navigate a client s attitude, thoughts and feelings and their influence on wellness. They are given techniques to assist clients in changing them, and in the process improve their wellbeing. Dynamic Structure This is the first of our subjects aimed at helping clients with pain and poor posture. Students learn orthopaedic assessment and how to address neck and pelvic problems. This is an extremely useful subject, enabling students to help clients with headaches, neck tension, pain and poor posture. Neurological Approaches This subject enables students to help clients with learning difficulties and a wide range of neurological conditions. It includes the traditional Chinese approach using acupuncture points to bring about improvements in brain function, memory, senses integration, balance, speech, reading and more. It provides the keys for tackling the Social Nervous System - a very hot topic in neurology research in the last decade. The Social Nervous System has impacts on relationships, learning, hearing, expression, self-soothing and long-term health. This subject also looks at Primitive and Postural reflexes. The students are taught a full primitive and postural reflex assessment and many techniques that can assist with the integration of those reflexes. Anyone wanting to address peak performance, learning difficulties and other neurological conditions needs to know about these reflexes. HLT52415 Diploma of Kinesiology

10 18 19 HLT52415 Diploma of Kinesiology Structure and Nutrition Nutrition and diet is the foundation of the body s biochemistry. This subject enables students to understand and read hair tissue analysis, live blood analysis and Ph analysis. They learn to apply methods for improving a broad range of digestive issues using Western and Chinese medicine. The subject includes balances that address toxicity and food intolerances that are so common today. The structural component looks at the key areas of the cranium, jaw and the fascial trains that link different areas of the body. At the completion of the unit students have a complete integrative approach to improving posture, pain and structural problems. 11 NAT Diploma of Mind Body Medicine At CCM we recognise that health and wellness depends on balancing head and heart - ensuring that our deeper values are expressed in our lives. Many health approaches focus solely on the physical symptoms of illness, but Mind Body Medicine explores the relationship between the mind and the body simultaneously. Very often client problems stem from a common root by using Mind Body Medicine you can learn how to discover these root drivers and encourage positive change. Our 10594NAT Diploma of Mind Body Medicine course teaches a unique blend of mind and body skills that produces graduates who can start their own clinic as a Mind Body Practitioner. They are outstanding in their training and highly equipped at engaging a person s mind, confident in using client-centred counselling techniques and body techniques such as acupressure, kinesiology and channel palpation to help clients connect, understand, embrace life and achieve wellbeing. This course represents the culmination of 15 years of intense research into mind and body links. The unique body psychology approach uses a backbone of Chinese Medicine theory combined with Western Medicine understanding to codify the likely psychology related to specific symptoms and signs. Practitioners then use the unique body counselling approach to explore these connections with the client. The aim is to help the client discover the key driving force behind their behavioural patterns, and the connection between those patterns and their physical symptoms. This is an extremely empowering approach to working with people with chronic illness. They go from seeing their condition as something out of their control to feeling empowered to take charge of their own health and wellbeing. The course is holistic, combining the key areas of Chinese Medicine: channel theory, 5 element and Ba Gua theory, and diagnosis; with nutrition and diet therapy, kinesiology, and counselling techniques such as felt sense and focusing. Who is the course for? This course is particularly relevant for people that want to work in health fields where an integrated mind body medicine approach is useful - such as working with long term chronic conditions, structural and pain related conditions, life change and psychological states. Our graduates often use their knowledge within their own practice or join an established clinic, focusing on specific areas such as chronic diseases, fertility enhancement, fatigue, recovery from traumatic events, anxiety depression, life purpose, relationships and back and shoulder pain. Practitioners of other modalities choose this course because they want to elevate their training and expand their practice and client offerings. Career Outcomes This unique and intensive program gives you the skills to be able to seek employment in a pioneering and rapidly expanding field of medicine. Graduates may choose to work independently or together with other medical practitioners in integrative clinics. Mind Body Medicine complements other forms of medicine and distinct advantages when tackling many of the chronic conditions that are so prevalent today. You can play a leading role in helping people feel self-empowered in regards to their health and emotional wellbeing. 13 24 25 Double Diploma Options 10594NAT Diploma of Mind Body Medicine and HLT52415 Diploma of Kinesiology share the same course work in Terms 1, 2 and 4. Most of our students elect to complete both Diplomas completing the two subjects in Term 3 of Mind Body Medicine (Facilitating Change and Enhancing Life and Body Psychology) and the two subjects of Kinesiology in Term 3 (Neurological Approach and Energetic Medicine). Students wanting to complete these extra two subjects have two options: They can undertake a double load in Term 3 and complete both Diplomas in 1 year (full-time intensive option), or 1.5 years (other options). Alternatively they may complete one Diploma and then undertake to study the remaining two subjects of the other Diploma. I was studying Psychology before hand and I was just feeling really disenchanted, it was cold and impersonal and I couldn t imagine myself trying to help people through things in their lives from the approach I was being taught. I started searching for other alternatives and this course came up. It felt so perfect and was everything I wanted to do in one course, so two months later I was moving from psychology onto this course. At CCM it feels like I m not just being taught how to do things for my business in the future but it s also helping me overall to heal and be a better person for myself, and from there being able to help others in their own lives. Lena Banzer Mind Body Medicine graduate The 10358NAT Advanced Diploma of Integrative Complementary Medicine (ICM) is a course for the all-rounders; people wanting to integrate physical oriented solutions like Chinese Medicine, nutrition and massage with psychological ones like counselling and mind body medicine. It creates incredibly well rounded practitioners that can offer a fully integrated set of health and wellbeing solutions for clients. There are many specialist courses in natural medicine but none address the need for a course that integrates all the major elements of wellness. Humans are multidimensional so our treatments should be too. Integrating - so that the client can be addressed holistically and empowered to maximise their potential. Students learn to combine 8 major treatment modalities that address all aspects of the client, including their biochemistry, psychology and spirit, lifestyle, muscles and structure. The modalities are: Nutrition and diet therapy; Massage and Body work; Chinese Medicine theory and Acupressure practice; Mind Body Medicine; Counselling; Kinesiology; Homeopathy; Aromatherapy. Who is the course for? Our ICM course is relevant to anyone who has an interest in complementary medicine practices and wishes to help those who are suffering in their health or search for meaning in their daily lives. It will appeal to those who are torn between choosing specific techniques to study, as the course combines aspects of various techniques, treatments and theories. It will also appeal to those wanting to begin working in clinic after just two years, utilising the key aspects of both Chinese Medicine and Naturopathy. It integrates these two great pillars of Natural Medicine with our Mind Body approach - enabling graduates to work with the driving force of the mind, not just the biochemistry of the body NAT Advanced Diploma of Integrative Complementary Medicine

The 8 Key Subject Areas of ICM Nutrition and Diet Therapy The aim of this unit is to enable students to be able to address a person s biochemistry through specific dietary and nutritional recommendations. Many conditions respond well to changes in diet. The aim here is to understand why diet is important, how specific nutrients effect cellular function, as well as how to design programs that will help specific conditions. It covers nutritional biochemistry and diet therapy, with the preference of providing well informed dietary treatments and recommendations rather than just nutritional supplementation. In addition ICM recognises that the effectiveness of nutrition is dependent on the body s capacity to absorb and utilise nutrients. This capacity is largely an outcome of the degree of stress the client is under and how that stress affects the parasympathetic nervous system s tone. Thus ICM takes an integrative approach to address biochemistry that includes lifestyle and mind body factors, not just nutrition. Massage and Body Work Many people experience pain, stiffness and lack of mobility. This unit addresses these concerns using a broad range of tools from a variety of body work modalities. Students learn to apply massage, trigger and acupressure points, proprioceptive resets, harmonic technique (from osteopathy), facial release techniques and Kinesiology structural balances. In addition we recognise that our posture is an outcome of our movement, which in turn reflects how we are feeling. Recurrent emotional states have specific effects on posture. For example, a person predominantly experiencing fear will have a different posture than a person who predominantly is angry. So body work is not done in isolation in ICM. It is incorporated into a mind-body framework that addresses all aspects of the human that lead to specific postures and ultimately to specific symptoms. Chinese Medicine Theory and Acupressure Practice The roots of Chinese Medicine are holistic and incorporate mind and body. ICM draws on this traditional wisdom to help holistically understand what makes the client tick and to use acupressure to help psychologically as well as physically. This theory underpins our mind body framework, enabling a client to understand what psychology may be driving their illness and/or how their physical symptoms may effect how they feel. It allows the student to work thematically understanding connections between a diverse range of psychological and physical symptoms and signs. This enables them to treat the whole person rather than one symptom at a time. This approach to Chinese Medicine was standard in the past but is novel in today s Westernised university courses. The Westernisation of Chinese Medicine has seen these roots largely ignored in Chinese Medicine courses. ICM includes Chinese Medicine organ theory, diagnosis, channel theory, 5 element and Ba Gua constitutions, and Daoist acupuncture theory. Mind Body Medicine ICM recognises that chronic physical conditions are mostly the outcome of how a client has been living their life: their lifestyle and psychology. The mind and body are codependent and interdependent. The body feeds the mind nutrients and information. The mind roams throughout the body (via the nervous system and endocrine systems) influencing the function of every cell. The mind does not finish in the head but is everywhere. This unit links physical systems, symptoms and signs with specific psychologies. This empowers clients by helping them to recognise the impact that they can have on their health by altering what they have most power over: their relationship with themselves and their lifestyle. This fascinating unit is the outcome of a decade of intense study, drawing on Western and Eastern knowledge and wisdom, as well as detailed clinical experience. Counselling ICM incorporates a significant counselling component so that clients can be engaged to address important psychological drivers. The counselling unit covers many somatic techniques, such as felt sense and focusing to encourage the client to connect on a heart level in order to access their own deeper wisdom. This work is enhanced by the Kinesiology and Mind Body units that allow for the body to be used as a vehicle to help people better connect emotionally. Kinesiology Kinesiology is a mind body tool that enables the client to better understand factors that are contributing to their problem - whether it be physical or emotional Kinesiology muscle testing is used as an important assessment tool in ICM. This unit also incorporates Kinesiology methods for improving posture, assessing and working on muscle patterns that underpin specific postures. Techniques include protocols for addressing the jaw, cranials and pelvis. Homeopathy Homeopathy is another Complementary Medicine that addresses body and mind. It was recognised long ago that the answers to many health concerns lie in nature around us. This ICM unit covers how to take a homeopathic intake and how to utilise around 30 key remedies to address common client concerns. Aromatherapy Aromatherapy has a strong impact on a person s psychology as smell has an immediate effect on brain structures associated with emotion. When applied to the body it also affects the body s biochemistry. This unit addresses both aspects - the biochemical properties of oils and their psychological impact. It may be used together with massage and is also incorporated in many other facets of an ICM practitioner s work.
