3 Acupuncture Workshop Live Dr. Homi J E Kaikobad MBBS DPH DIP AC NCCAOM LAC Bachelor of Medicine & Surgery. Diplomate in Public Health. Diplomate in Acupuncture National Board Certified. Licensed Acupuncturist Scope of this discussion is entirely educational. 3 In this Issue we introduce discussions from a live workshop. These contain clinical insights, for the many who did not attend: On illnesses which occur in Winter Q What illnesses one should expect this Season? [class is taking place in festive part of Dec] A Cold invasion, ST Stagnated, K Deficiencies till Dec end. Then Jan post-holiday, depression. Q Tell us about Cold Invasion. A Via pores [LU], muscles [ST], to bone [K]. In patients with inherent HT K Def, moxa ST 36 multiple times on regular basis. On Falling K Yang Watch out for Falling Yang patients. Condition nearly impossible to diagnose till you are actively looking at it, and even then not something pathognomonic. Unless you know the diathesis you may not recognize it. Falling Yang is really Falling K Yang. Qi fails to reach brain, there's dizziness and an actual fall. Treat by moxa to DU 20. Pull up K Qi from ankles to pervade head. Then work to keep it there. Add to ear: points HT and K left ear, ST & SP right ear, seeds only. Stick moxa both ears till warm and reddish. Rescues K yang. In people predisposed to Cold, K 2 Fire pt on Water channel, and HT 3 Water pt on Fire channel. Needles: 0.5 cm, mild stimulation, keep 20 m, moxa on both A Cold often congeals Qi and prevents free movement especially in Winter and in vulnerable systems. Needles would dislodge congealment at the point but not propagate onward movement. Moxa does both, discongeals, and helps Qi move. Besides, the old adage: When acupuncture fails, use moxa. Having said that one must recognize the many great doctors through ages who used only moxa in their practice, with spectacular results. [see images next page which explain Falling Yang, which really is Falling K Yang] Copyright acu-free LLC. All rights reserved. Published by acu-free.com LLC
4 As long as there are no signs of Heat and Fire, use moxa, 10 inch cigarette type best. Ibuki for specific points. 4 A Yang of all yangs lives at DU 20, vertex, A. In health it connects to K yin which lives around the ankles, B. Walking, running, sitting, sleeping, awake, asleep, this connection between Yang at DU 20 and K yin at K 3 - UB 60, remains vital, valid and unbroken, see image at L. In case of an inborn LU Metal deficiency, the LU Qi does not control LV, LV becomes Stagnated, Wind runs Wayward and does not control movement of Qi in the K - DU 20 circuit, and Yang Falls, see image below. B One would have thought of a SP situation where SP column falls; but in that case other structures would also follow suit such as hernia, varicose veins. ID the system predisposed to Falling Yang, shore it up, educate patient, companions, make note in case history, and you have prevented much anguish and discomfort.
5 On illnesses which evolve in Spring 5 Q Its Spring. What illnesses to expect? A Should have asked this last Fall. Q Why? A In TM one anticipates, presages, prevents. [continues] Simplistically, LV based; complexly, LU. Spring, LV front center. But look for LU in the wings. Migraine sciatica eye problems - could be LU in back. Check for LU. Q Spring - LV manifestations - still check LU? A Yes. Q LV pulse? A Long [extends over cun & chi], tight, slightly wiry, strong beats. A Tight? A Rises falls with strength vibrates L R. Q How is wiry different from tight? A Wiry registers no waves, rigid at all levels. Q Talk of wiry. A Is also Long, extends over cun chi positions. No waves, rise and fall. Rigid. Taut wire. No superficial deep. Q Normal LV pulse? A Long strong registers waves, maybe slightly wiry Spring. Q More on Wiry? A Reflects LV Qi stuck, stagnated. LV Wind free moving wafting now high now low now in valley now summit of mountains. Normal pulse reflects Long Strong wavelike. In LV illness, Wind restrained, can't fly free; frustrated, settles like a cowed falcon in cage bottom; pulse reflects with Wiry. Settled Wind stagnates; holds one position; Wiry does same Q Explain Stagnation? / A Compacted below, Empty above. Q LV Stagnated Empty...? A Soon Heated. Empty in LV illness invites Heat. Beware! See LV Stagnation, reverse like the Dickens. Dissipate with LV 2 LV 3 LV 5 UB 19 GB 34 - bleed ear - till Stagnation resolved Wiry gone pulse normal.
