However, we found that the squeak ing response of rats was not as stable as the legwithdrawal response and showed a larger individual variation. In t he present st udy, we systemically observed t he stability of t he legwit hdrawal scores of art hritic flexion pain test in adjuvantinduced monoart hritic rat s and their sensitivity to analgesic drugs. Results : In normal rats when the ankle joints were bent gently, very few legwit hdrawal responses occured. This score increased sig nificantly in inflamed joint s. The legwit hdrawal scores in inflammed legs kept stable for several hours in a single experiment. Morp hine and indomet hacin produced a dosede pendent reduction of the scores. The results showed that the legwithdrawal response DA China Academic Journal Electronic Publishing House. All rights reserved.

However, comparative study of the results obtained by squeaking alone, legwithdrawal alone and the total scores of squeaking and legwithdrawal revealed that it seems more reliable to use the total scores as the end point of arthritic flexion pain.
