1 GROW UID MA Strategic Design Project, Spring weeks Niox Grow was developed under the collaboration of a Swedish medical company Aerocrine and Umea Institute of Design. It is a discreet asthma management system - a personal management station, an air cleaner/ family interface, an online community and a mobile app - for adolescents. Personal management station is used to detect the markers of allergic asthma inflammation in exhaled breath and it utilizes Aerocrine s patented technology. The complete proposal aims to share management information on multiple platforms to decrease the intrusive behavior of the family members and encourage the adolescents to manage their condition. 2 VISUAL EXPRESSION Calm Unobtrusive Mature Hint of Playfulness Trustworthy All along the creative process, having a calm, natural and unobtrusive form language was my primary concern on each physical and digital product. Even though the target group was early to late adolescents, I preferred a mature form language with a hint of playfulness with the help of an organic interface. 2

4 Three different themes evaluated through six different foam mock ups. Two of them were taken into consideration for further exploration. 4

5 DETAILING Chamfers, height variations, split lines, speaker placement, CMF, structure & surface curvature were explored following ideation. Using CAD and photo realistic rendering tools were helpful to focus on detailing rather than the general expression. 5

6 MANAGEMENT STATION Posten AB is the name of the Swedish postal service and they were also our collaborator. 7 PRODUCT STAGES TESTING Before a test, Niox Grow is activated by tapping the button on top. Instantly, it becomes alive and generate your management pattern. This pattern will update according to your progress. When the test unit is removed, base becomes active as a flow rate and timing guide. 8 AIR CLEANER This component of the Niox Grow family creates a suitable environment at home when necessary. It also displays detailed asthma management data when activated.
