Role in project: Coordinator address: Danielle.philippi@autisme.lu N/A T5.2 Workplace health and safety Project summary The O.P.E.C.E. project consists in initiatives to support people suffering from autism on the labour market, with a view to helping people suffering from autism enter the job market, whether through protected workshops providing accommodation and support for the person s idiosyncrasies, or via the conventional labour market. Development and Implementation Initiator/trigger The project came about as a response to rising levels of diagnoses in Luxembourg, leading to rising demand from parents for support for their children about to enter the labour market. Autisme Luxembourg aims to provide support to families of persons suffering from autism by conducting a thorough assessment of each person s individual characteristics and abilities. 1

In order to process demands more efficiently, a plan to ease the transition from schooling often special education to the labour market was developed. The objective of the project consists in drafting tailored action plans, called employability reports, for autistic youths. These action plans provide a first filter to prioritise Autisme Luxembourg s work depending on the needs and abilities of the autistic jobseekers they work with. The assessments conducted for these reports will lead to personalised job search strategies for some or to recommendations for participation in protected workshops for others. The direct beneficiaries from the project are people suffering from autism in Luxembourg as well as their families. Quantitative target objectives were set for the project, regarding a) the number of employability reports drafted and b) the number of autistic persons benefiting from support measures from Autisme Luxembourg. In the short term, direct outputs from the project will consist in tailored employability reports suited to the needs and abilities of autistic jobseekers. These reports will help people suffering from autism find stable, gainful employment in the short to medium term. In the long run, the reports, along with information gathered on labour market participation for autistic people throughout the project, will help guide policy choices with regards to education and support measures for autistic people. The longer run outcome of this is expected to be lower unemployment rates among autistic people. The key success factor contributing to the project s favourable outcomes is Autisme Luxembourg s commitment to delivering the highest level of service quality not just to people suffering from autism, but also to the potential employers with whom they regularly collaborate. This dedication will be measured formally through surveys completed by all participants in the programme, including autistic persons as well as employers. This project can be replicated in other countries. The project is linked to the thematic block regarding workplace health and safety, specifically, the sub-theme regarding reintegration. As the project aims to help autistic people integrate the labour market, it can be said to be directly relevant to the relevant thematic block. The specific objective linked to the project is entitled Increase the activation of disadvantaged people and of people removed from the primary labour market, including beneficiaries of the guaranteed minimum income. As the project aims to help autistic people who can be said to be disadvantaged compared to the rest of the population integrate the labour market, it can be said to be directly relevant to the relevant thematic block. This project does not contribute to reducing health inequalities per se. 2
