Accomplishments for the School Year 1. Monthly meetings of the Autism Team were held with at least 50% of members in attendance each meeting. 2. Meetings were held from 2:30-3:30 pm which is during the work day. Increased attendance was affected by teachers with after school duties, other responsibilities such as the gifted program and tutoring, as well as inability to leave the classroom. 3. The inability of members to attend the meetings was compensated by a Team Meeting newsletter sent to each participant the following day. This kept everyone in the loop as well as providing a hard copy of our proposed plans.
Accomplishments for the School Year continued Parent Trainings 1. Conducted by Dr. Egle from 12:45-2:00 pm. Topic: Responding to Problematic Behavior Parents/Families that attended: 2 Families Staff members that attended: 8 2. Conducted by Robin Woolley, Social Worker from 5:00 pm to 7 pm. Topic: Sexuality and Relationship Education (Babysitting was offered) Parents/Families that attended: 2 Families Staff members that attended: 9 Time of day and child care did not appear to affect the turnout. Not enough notice to families and not advertising the trainings enough may have affected the turnout.
Accomplishments for the School Year continued Community Outreach Autism Awareness Walk Held Friday afternoon from 5 pm to 7 pm a. Great Success. b. Over 125 participants c. Eight of our twelve families with children with autism attended d. Co-hosted by the high school baseball team e. One speaker was a student with autism f. One speaker was a parent of a student with autism We accomplished what we had hoped to. The co-hosting by the baseball team was an added bonus. It fulfilled our desire to increase community outreach and to educate people about Autism.
Accomplishments for the School Year continued Free movie night The Temple Grandin Movie at the local theatre shown on a Tuesday, 6:30-8:30 a) Partial success b) About 30 participants c) Three of our twelve families attended d) Other participants included local families We would have liked to see more people attending. Flyers went home with the student body, but we did not have much advertising outside of that.
Accomplishments for the School Year continued Paraprofessional Training Conducted by Dr. Egle Topics: Responding to Problematic Behaviors and Definition of Positive Reinforcement. 1. Nine paraprofessionals/ Teacher Aides from Pre-K to the high school participated 2. Training was provided in two sessions 8:30-11:00 am and 1-3:00 pm. 3. Teachers were very instrumental in arranging their aides and students so all could attend We accomplished what we had hoped to. Most staff was able to attend.
Accomplishments for the School Year continued 1. Completed 8 PECS books and distributed to appropriate students as well as 2 parents 2. Trained assistants and special education teachers on beginning use of the PECS program 3. Utilized Links curriculum with 2 high school students 4. Continued using STAR curriculum with appropriate students 5. Provided functional life skill classes to appropriate students
Goals Not Met 1. Outreach to surrounding communities 2. Participating in the Health Fair 3. Small turn out for parent trainings 4. Continued training on the ADOS 5. Improved access to the Autism Lending Library for parents and community members 6. Visiting other school districts with Autism Teams
Plans For The School Year continued Improve communication/ advertising for planned events to the community and the surrounding communities. Continue community outreach events of Movie Night, Autism Walk, and Parent training Improve access to the Autism Lending Library by contacting public library Make plans to visit other school districts early in the year, as time ran out on us Continue monthly Autism Team meetings Schedule CPI with ASD training for special education teachers and assistants
Plans For The School Year Continue monthly meetings of the Autism Team Continue the Autism Awareness Walk and Free Movie night.
