3 Act Early Regional Summit Project BACKGROUND Nti National lcenter on Birth Df Defects and Developmental l Disabilities (NCBDDD) Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) launched the Learn the Signs. Act Early. (LSAE) campaign in 2004 To reach out and educate parents, health care professionals, and child care providers about developmental milestones and the importance of early identification and intervention for children with signs ofautism spectrum disorder (ASD) and related disabilities. 3

4 Act Early Regional Summit Project BACKGROUND Maternal Child Health Bureau (MCHB), Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) implementation of the Combating Autism Act Initiative The goal of the Combating Autism Act Initiative (CAAI) projectsis to enable all children to reach their full potential by developing a system of services that includes screening children early for possible ASD and other DD; conducting early interdisciplinary i evaluations to confirm or rule out ASD and other DD; and if a diagnosis is confirmed, providing evidence based early interventions. i 4
