1 Conference Theme Pediatric cancers are the leading cause of disease-related death in children however, childhood cancers possess a distinct etiology defined as a rare disease when contrasted with the adult cancer landscape. Due to being classified as a rare disease, pediatric cancer discovery efforts have unique challenges due to more limited basic and translational informatics infrastructure. At the same time, the rare nature of pediatric cancers creates an impetus for innovation in informatics to accelerate discovery and improve outcomes. Harnessing this potential through distributed and federated efforts in data generation, sharing, and analysis requires new approaches and tools to provide an opportunity for pediatric and adult cancers to partner in creating a collaborative data driven healthcare ecosystem. The 2017 Fall Conference will be focused on the roles of pediatric oncology in the context of a data driven and cancer data ecosystem. The main agenda is designed to understand and discuss both challenges and solutions in pediatric cancer. In the spirit of innovation and novel collaborative solutions, the initial workshop day is designed around machine learning and artificial intelligence, including techniques that cut across the domain of Cancer informatics. As a whole, the goal is to engage the CI4CC and pediatric communities to develop new ideas, create new partnerships, and build solutions that will ensure all cancer patients are best served by the cancer data ecosystem.
