Technology/Product transferred: Number and names with name of licensee(s) (i) This program resulted in the formulation of agrotechnology for growing the oil seed crop Chia in India, which is originally from Mexico. It was decided to provide this technology for free to the farmers of the country along with 1 OOg of seeds to ensure they grow and get benefited from it. It was purely a societal intervention, resulting in more than 2000 farmer beneficiaries. (ii) Technologies towards making healthy icecreams and chocobars were developed. Omega- 3 fatty acid in the form of oil was added to make nutritious and healthy icecreams called Nutriice, while crispy seeds were incorporated into chocobars to make chocolates healthier. Both technologies have already been successfully transferred. 4. Facility created: Number and names with uniqueness & utility A state-of-the-art Lipid Research facility that can house about 50 scientists (Faculty & their research scholars and project assistants) with a well-equipped cell culture facility, common instrumentation facilities and inoculation rooms was created. A walk-in cold room and a walk-in plant growth chamber equipped with a high end Biolistic Gene gun were also created. Infrastructure like an SP8 confocal STED Leica microscope with a white light laser and live cell imaging, a first of its kind in the country, was procured under this project and is being extensively used; The High Resolution Mass spectrometer from ABSciex (now, Sciex) is the 3

4 one recommended especially for lipid analysis and the same was procured under this project. In India, these equipments are available only at CSIR-CFTRI to enable quality and specific lipid research. Similar such set ups are found at the Kansas Lipid research Center (KLRC) and at the National University of Singapore (NUS). 5. Sponsored projects obtained (with details)- NOT APPLICABLE 6. Outputs: As a societal endeavour, we had released the seed varieties to the farmers for free in October 2014 and provided them with the agro-technology to grow the same.
