Estimated population of wild boars The presence of wild boars in Sardinia is estimated around animals: an average of 4 6 animals per kmq of land useful. 10

Olbia Tempio province, ex Sassari province one outbreak was detected in: Monti: primary outbreak on The pigs wasn t identified. The origin of the infection is therefore attributable to the illegal introduction of animals and / or potentially infectious material from areas with active infection. Epidemiological survey shows that: The fences are not adequate, illegal administration of kitchen waste

A possible redifinition of the ASF s High Risk Zone (Decision 363/2005/CE) The data of surveillance, the characterization of the territory for the presence/absence of communal land, where pig populations is uncontrolled, allows us to improve the reassess of the risk. 68
Risk assessment In order to find objective evidence of risk assessment has been suggested the following classification system based on the events of the last three years: outbreaks in domestic pig populations Sero + in domestic pigs Viruses+ in wild populations (hunting and more) Sero + in wild boars
In addition to these objective variables the inclusion of the municipalities within the "high risk" also takes account of other variables, less objectively measurable in advance, but that may significantly affect the qualification of the territory with respect to risk, namely; the implementation and management of the Registry swine reporting any pigs kept at the wild uncontrolled presence absence of regulation of grazing land in the municipal territory objectification of surveillance activities carried out pursuant to the eradication Plan.
From the check carried out It turns out that the above points are to be considered constant in all municipalities, since the verification activities of the Registry, serological sampling, and presence / absence of local regulation of grazing, have been implemented effectively. For the remaining proceeds to the following classification instead...
Outbreaks in domestic populations In the period considered outbreaks were detected in 6 / 8 provinces. Reduced in number, and "spot", were all readily resolved without any consequences in the surrounding area.
Seropositivity in domestic pigs The seropositivity in the domestic population is more concentrated in the "expected areas", with the exception of response in the province of Oristano
Virus+ in wild populations In the three years were observed and extinct four areas: Laconi (OR), Arzachena (OT), Bultei (SS) and Nuxis (CI). It still remains still standing the finding of the infected area of Urzulei (OG)
Wild boars seropositivity In view of the epochs and ages of the subjects found seropositive, the mapping of these subjects makes it possible redefinition of the infected areas. Also certified in an objective way, the lack of endemicity.
Presence of uncontrolled brady pigs population This is the most important element in the definition of "area at risk." In these contexts, the risk is probably more related to the area, as well as behaviors
bradabilità estimated This thematic map shows from green to brown, in order of increasing the percentage of the total land, with soil compatible with the presence of wild animals and / or wild pigs
African swine fever Total risk The sum total of all the factors considered and their proper "weighting", generates this thematic map, which is observed by light green (no risk) to red (highest risk) the municipalities and their risk classification.
Comparison with the current highrisk area This map shows the boundaries of existing high risk area (blue), shown with the municipalities that are objectively enrolled on the basis of the proposal.
SITUATION IN DOMESTIC PIGS There is still a viral reservoir of ASF in the population of pigs on high risk area. Within this population, the virus is present endemically, and periodic epidemic peaks occur The sporadic occurrence of primary outbreaks outside the high risk area, usually is followed by rapid eradication of the outbreaks without consequence in terms of viral persistence in the territory, if there aren t the typical factors of high risk area. So, in these case, we have to ensure timely and accurate measures, that get to effective extinction of the outbreak. 80
SITUATION IN WILD BOARS The situation in the wild boars, especially outside the high risk zone, is greatly improved: large infected areas were revoked for the absence of positive virological samples in wild boar. Only in the Centre Sardinia of Montarbu, Aritzo, Urzulei Baunei and Orgosolo Dorgali are confirmed the measures of the infected area. In the Infected Area of Orgosolo Dorgali is ongoing a program in order to increase veterinary checks on domestic pig populations reared in the wild. 81

Extraordinary measures immediate action: extraordinary plan audit inspections in all 469 ASF herds accredited and in HBLH (high biosecurity level herds) to be completed by 31/12/2011 comprehensive review of the accreditation system (Determina n /11/2011)
