The Junior Fair Board will be working at the Wilmington Skyline Chili on Saturday June 6th! The Junior Fair Board will receive 10% and tips Saturday, June 6 from 11:00 a.m.-3:00 p.m. Skyline Chili in Wilmington. Junior Fair Wristbands Friday, June 26 th 8:00am to 4:00pm Junior Fair Wristbands Expo Building Friday, July 10 th 8:00am to 2:30pm Junior Fair Wristbands Expo Building 3:00pm to 8:00pm Junior Fair Wristbands Peterson Building Friday, July 10 th 8:00am to 6:00pm Senior Fair Office will be open.
2 Skillathon: June 18 & 23, 6-8:00 p.m. at the Clinton County Fairground Members must complete a skillathon for each of the following project areas that they are enrolled in: beef, dairy, dogs, goats, hogs, horses, poultry, rabbits and sheep at the designated time before the fair to be eligible to show their animals at the fair. A completed official 4-H/FFA project book or insert, which is 10% of the total skillathon score must be turned in at the time the test is taken. Members having valid scheduling conflicts who cannot attend the scheduled dates must notify the OSU Extension office in writing by midnight prior to the last skillathon date. No make-up tests during the fair. Those not taking the skillathon during the county dates are ineligible for any skillathon awards. Members who enter the skillathon test buildings must sign in and take the skillathon that night. Only members taking the Skillathon are permitted in the testing areas. No cell phones may be used in the testing area. Inserts If you have been looking for the breeding and market livestock inserts online please know they are not posted yet. Inserts and books are available in the office. We hope to have the inserts online by early June. Biosecurity As everyone gets out for summer and plan to spend time at the neighbors and friends homes we need to remember about how diseases transfer in our livestock projects. There are many ways disease can travel:rodents, Wildlife, Birds, Pets, Vehicles and Equipment, Humans, New Animals, Clothing and Shoes and the Air. No matter if you have a 1 project or hundreds there s things you can do to keep your animals healthy and try to prevent the spread of disease. Periodically survey herd or flock for disease challenges. Establish traffic pattern to prevent exposure of younger animals to older animals. Provide dedicated boots and clothing when you can for your projects.wash hands when boots and clothes are changed. Practice proper room, pen, coop, and barn sanitation. Deny rodents entrance to barns and buildings. Remove sources of food that attract rodents. Prevent and deny rodents cover and a place to live. Bait or trap to reduce rodent populations. Dogs and cats are unacceptable rodent control and can transport disease too. Wildlife and pests compromise biosecurity. Use perimeter fences, netting, screening as needed to keep animals safe. This season we are watching the Avian Influenza spread across the states and it is growing very rapidly. Avian influenza (AI) is an infectious viral disease of birds (especially wild water fowl such as ducks and geese), often causing no apparent signs of illness. AI viruses can sometimes spread to domestic poultry and cause large-scale outbreaks of serious disease. The US has hit a 40 million mark of AI related poultry deaths. Currently, Ohio has quarantine on all birds from any infected state, which includes Indiana, Kentucky, and Michigan.
