1 Cass County 4-H Club Biographies JOINING AN EXISTING 4-H CLUB If you are looking for an existing 4-H club to join in your area, start here by reading the Club Bioigraphiies found below. If you find one you are intested in, contact the Club directly or contact the Cass County 4-H program coordinator to find out how to get involved. Not all of our clubs have a bio below yet, but we will be adding them as they come in. Once you have found a club you are interested in joining: Call or the club leaders for more information about joining the club and to confirm their upcoming meeting. If there are a couple of clubs you are interested in, plan to visit each club meeting or speak to a club leader before making your decision Once you have made a decision, enroll in 4-H using 4-H online and select your chosen club as you are filling out the enrollment form. STARTING A NEW 4-H CLUB If you would like to start a new club in your area, we encourage you to do so. You will need at least three families and a willingness to explore 4-H. No previous 4-H experience is necessary. Club Leaders and volunteers will need to go through a screening process in order to become a 4-H club leader. 2 AMBASSADORS 4-H CLUB The Ambassador Club is a county-wide 4-H leadership club that currently meets monthly at Swenson's near Jenkins. We promote 4-H in Cass County with our various activities. Each year we plan an activity day called R.E.D.D. (like project day) and last year we held it in Hackensack to help create interest in 4- H in that community. We've been in the Hackensack parade for 2 summers also to get the word out about 4-H. We provide sessions for Cloverbuds (younger 4-H members) during the county-wide Project Day. At the Cass County Fair, we sponsor Penny Wars where the money raised between the buildings is given to a charitable cause. During 4-H week we bake cookies to take to a bank in the county to help promote 4-H. The Ambassadors invite any 4-H members eighth grade and older to consider joining us. It can be a secondary club if you already belong to another club or your primary club if you are an Independent 4- H member. As an Ambassador you will volunteer at events, develop youth leadership skills and promote 4-H in your communities. 3 A.N.I.M.A.L.S 4-H CLUB A.N.I.M.A.L.S 4-H Club was formed in 2016 and consists of kids of all ages with Adventurous New Involved Motivated Active Learning Souls. The acronym says is all! We are a club with fresh ideas and motivated active kids. We are involved in community service projects and plan educational and FUN activities at every meeting! Our meetings are held in Blind Lake Township, one Thursday each month (to be determined) at 4:00pm. Fundraisers have consisted of planting seeds then selling plants and produce at the local farmer s market and an annual Hunters Chili Feed. For fun, we enjoy many exciting recreational activities and outings, including visits to the Forest History Center, Paul Bunyan Land, and the Headwaters Science Center. 5 HOOVES, PAWS-N-CLAWS 4-H CLUB Hooves, Paws N- Claws 4-H Club is located in the Pine River area. We were established in 2006 with 4 families, and currently have active members in our club. We meet the months of Oct-May with dates varying and times varying as schedules and activities permit. We often meet at the Pine River- Backus School but changes often occur if we have an activity at an outside location. Co-Leaders are Teri McAllister and Susan Harrison. We also have a great and active group of parent volunteer leaders that are very helpful and beneficial to the great outcomes of our club. We are an active club with our main concentration on all species of livestock projects. We will do other project areas also but the main focus for all of our members is showing, caring and learning about all livestock species and all members in our club have interest and show animals in these areas. Our club is very active doing Community Service projects for the soldiers, food shelf, roadside cleanup, and gift boxes for active service members. We are also very active in doing projects at the county fairgrounds. We often do grounds clean up, painting, project building, flowerbed construction and maintenance at the fairgrounds. Our club has written grants for improvements that our club can do for the improvement of the fairgrounds while learning skills in team building, mentoring and technical skills involved in the project. We have built and maintained several flowerbeds, repurposed the existing rabbit cages and put new fronts and doors on the cages for the safety of exhibitors and rabbits. Most of our grants have been associated with hands on construction activities the help to improve the grounds. All members and parents will take part in all aspects of the projects from start to finish. Fundraising activities vary from year to year all members and families are asked to be involved as funds raised are for club tours, activities, presentations and trips for all active participants. Our club has organized games and a petting zoo at the Pine River-Backus school carnival (usually the end of March or early April) for years with the money raised used to help defray activity costs to active members. 6 NORTHERN STARS 4-H CLUB The Northern Stars 4-H Club has been around for 5 years. We meet the first Sunday of every month from September to June. Our 4-H club has members from some of the surrounding towns and the Trailside Center is a good meeting place for everyone. Northern Stars has a wide variety of ages, a majority are in 6 th grade or younger. Our meetings usually run for an hour. It starts out with a game while waiting for everyone to come. After that we go through the agenda and at the end we learn something, play a game, or do a craft. Our members can explore projects based on their own abilities and interests. We do projects relating to photography, archery, livestock, and more. Our members also have an opportunity to help the community, participate in the county and state fairs, be on a knowledge bowl team. They can learn from camps by being a camper or a camp counselor. 7 POPLAR 4-H CLUB Welcome to 4-H! The Poplar 4-H Club was formed in the early 1930 s in Southern Cass County, making it the oldest club in Cass County! Our club meets the fourth Monday evening of the month at the Leader Community Hall at 7:00 pm. Our meeting normally lasts one hout and consists of project based education, announcement, demonstrations and input from the members on current community needs. We do a fundraising project before the Holiday Season to help fund education material, club equipment, training costs for members and leaders and most importantly, our ability to help people from the community who are having a crisis. We currently have 12 members with lots of younger siblings who will be future members. Ages of members range from kindergarten to high school seniors. Some of our project area include beef, horse goat, poultry, rabbits, dog, shooting sports and most non-livestock projects. The older youth have experience in State Fair, Northeast Livestock, Project Knowledge Bowl Teams, State and National Shooting Sports events, BLU and 4-H Summer Camp. They are happy to share their knowledge with younger members. There are many more 4-H activites with our club thourghout the year and we woould love to have you join us! 8 WILD CLOVERS 4-H CLUB Our Club has been together for two years. We meet the 3 rd Wednesday of most months at the Area Learning Center Building on the School Property in Pine River. We have 7 members ranging in age from 5 up to 15 years old. Our Club s focus is on community service and animals. The kids enjoy working with various species of animals and they also enjoy being active in our community.
