James Volk Lanyon Pharmacy, Conder ACT Tracey Edwards Flannery s Pharmacy, Forbes NSW James has been a pharmacist for a number of years and has spent his early life in Country NSW growing up in Warren. He completed his studies at the University of Sydney and moved to Tamworth where he owned and operated a Pharmacy for 20 years. James joined the Life Pharmacy Group at Dubbo before moving to Lanyon Pharmacy in the ACT in He has a passion for helping every customer that walks through the door and with his experience has emerged a keen interest in helping patients manage their medications through providing medication summaries and reviews. James has worked with a number of pharmacies over the years and is impressed by the professionalism and professional programs the Life Pharmacy Group offers to the local community. Make sure you say hello to James on your next visit to Lanyon Pharmacy. After growing up in Newcastle in a family of pharmacists, the decision for Tracey to become a Pharmacist came as no great surprise. Following her training in Sydney, Tracey chose to travel and work overseas as a pharmacist in England before moving to the Central West in Now the wife of a local farmer and mother to two beautiful girls, she is living just out of Tullamore and travels to Forbes to work as Pharmacist in Charge at Flannery s a few days each week. I really enjoy how rewarding rural pharmacy can be. The opportunity to form trusting relationships with our customers gives me great personal satisfaction and I am enjoying the way Flannery s Pharmacy are focusing so heavily on providing professional services to our community. I feel fortunate to be able to work with such a strong and capable team, even though in the blink of an eye I have progressed to being the old girl. Make sure you say hello to Tracey on your next visit to Flannery s Pharmacy.

7 TAKE CARE OF THE SKIN YOU RE IN WHY DOES ECZEMA SOMETIMES GET WORSE IN THE WINTER? You may find that eczema flares occur more frequently or worsen in the winter. Dry air combined with indoor heating systems can dry out your skin. Eczema flares because the skin cannot stay moist on its own. Flare-ups can also be caused by wearing too many layers of clothing, taking hot baths or showers, or using too many bed coverings. You can still get sunburnt in winter You need to make sure you still get your daily D in winter, which means spending a little more time out doors to get your dose. Use a daily moisturiser with SPF to protect your face. 354mL Hot showers / Dry skin 75g The lure of a hot shower definitely helps in getting out of bed on a cold morning. 12 ARE YOU WINTER READY? Ain t No Sunshine When It Rains When it s cold and raining outside, there s a natural urge to curl up with a warm drink and binge watch a TV series. However, when you re enjoying the great indoors, you re not only missing a little sunshine, but also the sunshine nutrient, vitamin D. Talk to your Life Pharmacy Group Pharmacist about how you may be able to boost your vitamin D levels and support a healthy immune system. GIVE SICK DAYS THE FLICK! Calling in sick to work is generally a good decision when you re unwell, but it s not an easy task there s the conversation with your boss, and then the thought of your work piling up. If a cold or flu has knocked you down, it s time to fight back! But where should you start? It might seem obvious, but have you taken some vitamin C? This may help to reduce the severity and duration of colds. Also, let s not forget our Pharmacists can also recommend other immune defence boosters which (when taken as directed) may reduce the duration of cold symptoms and may help you give sick days the flick this year. EAT, SLEEP EXERCISE, REPEAT! While your immune system has a natural ability to fend off invaders, there are some healthy habits you can employ to benefit your immunity: Eat plenty of fruit, vegetables and whole grains as they provide valuable nutrients and antioxidants to support a healthy immune system Drink plenty of water to keep your body hydrated and exercise regularly Adopt healthy sleep habits. If you feel like you don t have time for sleep, think about what you have to gain. Studies have shown people who sleep more enjoy better moods, energy, mental agility, attention spans, memory, gross motor skills and faster reaction times. TALK TO YOUR LOCAL LIFE PHARMACY GROUP PHARMACIST TO FIND OUT THE BEST WAY FOR YOU TO STAY WELL THIS WINTER SEASON.
